Avic Z2 Bypass Issues (GPS FLAKING OUT)

I wanted to find out if anyone else is having this issue.

We've had 3 seperate vehicles and 4 units now. That were early 2007 models. We do the bypass/update on them and the unit randomly mis-tracks on navigation.

I don't mean its to the point where you should stop and reset your current position I mean the unit behaves as thought its jumped over to DEMO mode randomly.

We've contacted our 'insider' at pioneer and he's stated this is a BUG in the bypass software that they will later be releasing a patch for, but don't have an ETA.

Basically he told me just to warranty them for the customer and do it again. But it's happened with every single pre-July AVIC-Z2 we've performed the Bypass on. Otherwise the bypass itself works flawlessly, but it effects the overall performance of the unit(s).

Wanted to know how many other people are having this problems and if there are any solutions out there to date.

Please help us out!

No problems here, and I would not believe your "insider". The performance should be identical to a "non-bypassed" Pre-June Z2 and to a factory "bypassed" July/Aug/Sept Z2 and to an upgraded Z1 to "bypassed" Z2.

I'd blame antenna placement or improper install

I agree. Have done literally dozens of "patches" with both the 30mb file found here and one of the CNDV700HD disks and have not seen any of what you describe. Is it more of an accuaracy issue of the map, or what do you mean by demo mode?

By Demo mode I mean it self navigates w/out any set course/path.

When in Map mode the unit doesnt show an accurate position, but more so that even when STOPPED or parked it continues to show the vehicle tracking over oceans or otherwise completely of course.

Of course the first inclination was installer error (Number one cause of problems w/ 12V products). But I checked installed the 3rd vehicles from scratch myself verifying all connections and road tested it about 20 miles w/out any problems.

The bypass works perfect, when the GPS 'flakes out' the vehicle dynamics are showing accurately the direction of the vehicle and the approximate speed and what have you. Now we've installed NBT1 (blue tooth adaptor), IPOD interace and back-up camera on all these units as well. But it's been my experience that a periphial wouldn't cause such a confined problem like that.

Thanxs for the feedback and help though! Anyone else feel free to comment / drop us a line w/ ideas.

Wow, weird issues. Never seen any like that.

Just off the top of my head, are these being installed in a car for the first time, or is there a possibility it might be going crazy from previously learned tendencies from the gyro and speed sense?

Hmm, nope never heard of that either. But rest assured, it has nothing to do with the bypass.

I will confirm that this has happend to me as well. My Z1 manufacture date is Apr. 06 and the GPS has intermittently dropped out twice since I had the unit. This was with the unit being bypassed via the Ducatiboy flasher.

There was no reason to the occurences, but was back to normal on the next restart and subsequent drive.

I just recently upgraded to a toshiba 60gb and z2 image. Hopefully, it won't happen again.

I have seen the GPS go off track too. but I have seen it hapen everytime I am on the cell Phone, it seems with the GPS wire cut and a seitch addedd, that when phone calls are made the phone signal gets into the cut gps wire. it happends on my nextel the worst, but also on my AtT phone. fixes could be sheilding the gps wire switch, better. use a plastic handle switch. good luck.

You cut your GPS wire and you are surprised your GPS goes off track? Why on earth would you do that?
