I was going to get an AVIC D2 and the seller said...

This unit can only play DVDs when use with external DVD Changer or DVD Player! otherwise it will only play Audio CDs/MP3 and DVD-ROM Navigation DVDs ONLY!

I thought the AVIC D1 was the one that couldn't play DVD's and required an external DVD player...

Is the D2 like this too? If it is a DVD Player and it reads The DVD Map Disc shouldn't it be able to play DVD's or is the Map disk different?

Haven't bothered asking him why yet but thought I'd ask here first....

the map discs are dvd rom. not dvd video. there is a difference, and the d3 is the first in the d series to do both

i had a little dvd player hooked up to my avic d2 in the glove box... worked perfect with the bypass and everything
