Whats the deal with the Sync Tool when I go to the settings in the navi screen? Does that allow you to update the maps and POIs? Is it released yet? And also anyone hear of any FW updates coming soon?

To answer OP's question. The sync tool you are looking for is called AvicSync and pioneer never released it.

That's only one avenue.
Naviextras Toolbox is another. Uses HU Sync Tool, Naviextras Toolbox installed on internet-connected computer, and USB media to transfer data. Free update through Naviextras is limited, same as any other type of map updating system... but there is also pay-for map updates available and third-party POI's can be uploaded to the HU.
Even when/if AvicSync gets released, there will be some data/info that will be free and some will require subscription.
