All,
Am I the only one seeing this? After I upgraded to iOS 8.2 yesterday I was not able to see Album Art for Spotify and Slacker through "Now Playing". I have reset the phone and the unit but next step is going to be reinstalling the apps.

I'm about to disable CarPlay. I keep hoping the next iOS update will make it better, but it keeps getting worse!
No one else has had this problem? Reset my phone, reloaded apps and only music player will display art in Now Playing. Even the podcast player will not. Seriously annoyed that every update seems to make CarPlay worse.
Hi Spankey
I am also having the same problem. I have Spotify and Rdio app and none of them are showing the album art since I updated to ios 8.2. I have even reset my Pioneer head unit and also wiped my iPhone to see if that would help but nothing. Just get a blank screen. I have the Pioneer AVH-x8600BT and iPhone 6 plus.
Thanks. Just wanted to be sure that I wasn't crazy if no one else had the problem. Not sure if this is an iOS problem that will require an iOS update or update to each app. Grrrrr....
Think its iOS update as I received update to Spotify today and it didn't help.
Probably need pioneer firmware update, don't hold your breath
I highly doubt this is a Pioneer issue. It was working fine the day before and it still works with the Apple Music Player. Something in the update killed this. I'm thinking about updating to the beta for 8.3 to see if this was fixed or a bug missed in this version.
The pioneer is just plain terrible at displaying album art in CarPlay. The alpine you can actually see it. I can't wait till I can afford to get rid of my NEX.

I can see artwork just fine. You just have to adjust brightness and contrast when in the App and it shows just as good as the Alpine.

True, and I've done that, but then the maps in Carplay are set to nuclear levels of brightness. Tough to find a balance.
Hi Spankey
Can you let me know how you get on with testing ios 8.3 to see if that fixes problem. I was thinking of downgrading back to iOS 8.1.3 to get things working again

No, when I do that I then get to see some fantastically terrible horizontal grey bars all over my album art, and the maps looks horrendous. The alpine just shows the album art correctly.
It's something in the default color map that we don't have access to that changes for the worse for carplay.
Try it. turn on a song and go to the now playing screen and then press the mode button. A split second before the radio jumps to its own media player it switches all the display videos settings to the default picture settings for the radio and at that second the radio lets you see all the album art.
It's just infuriating.
I have to agree with DP3343. Album art on Pioneer CarPlay is awful. I have only seen album art on Alpine unit via youtube videos and can tell it looks a lot better. I'm sure when I first started using CarPlay the album art looked a lot better but seems with every ios update it gradually gets worse.
Further to album art problem, it looks as though it is an ios 8.2 problem. I downgraded my phone back to ios 8.1.3 and album art showed up on CarPlay, even though the quality wasn't great. I have tried everything with ios 8.2 to get it to work but it wont. Tried clean install on iPhone, removed Spotify app and reinstalled to see if that would help. I even downgraded my pioneer AVH-X8600bt from firmware 1.07 to 1.06 and still nothing would work with ios 8.2
At this stage I am not sure if Pioneer needs to release a firmware update to make unit compatible with ios 8.2 or if ios 8.3 will fix the problems since it is meant to have more support for CarPlay.
Hi
Well I've done some more testing. I was able to install ios 8.3 onto my phone and have tested it with carplay. Everything is now working and can see music art when using 3rd party apps. I have tested with Spotify and Rdio, as those are the only ones I can use since I'm in the UK. Also the album art seems to look a lot better than it ever has. Not sure if it is just me or the fact I haven't seen it in a awhile but I can confirm the problem with music art is down to ios 8.2
Cool. Did they expand the fade? They literally faded a full third of the album art on 8.2. I guess this issue didn't pass the beta testers. Hoping we get the release with Apple watch in April.
i'm running iOS 8.2 and am having no problem with the album art from Spotify. And it does look better - like a better quality picture file is being used. I noticed that this morning, and thought that it was just me thinking i was seeing that, but apparently others see it as well.
I wasn't able to get any album art with Spotify running ios 8.2. I have noticed the fade is still there, it shows at the bottom of the album art where the music controls are. The picture quality does look better though. Hope ios 8.3 comes out soon. I will try and take picture of the music art so you can see how it looks.
Kewl...I'm debating loading 8.3 but I use my phone and don't want to deal with having to restore again.

Please do take a picture if you can. I'm very interested to see if there's an improvement.

So far it has not. IMO, 8.2 and 8.3 are about the same. The not needing to unlock your iPhone is the only "big" feature I am aware of that I can take advantage of using 8.3 (and that is a nice one for sure.)
The other difference I have seen between 8.2 and 8.3 is some messaging when I try and access my playlists that are organized in nested folders. In 8.2 if I tapped on a folder at the root level of my iTunes structure on my 4000NEX nothing would happen and it would eventually time out. With 8.3, tapping on the same folder brings up a message saying that I can "download content" but still does not allow me to access my playlists via CarPlay. This has been a problem since I got my 4000NEX and I have been hopeful that an iOS update would fix it. Something has changed at least - since I now get a very useless message now instead of nothing. Seems that CarPlay does not like playlist folders inside of playlist folders and expects playlists only to be inside folders
Album art needs to look like this again (:30 second mark)
Well that is just the alpine. It has a better display than the NEX units as far as color quality.Album art needs to look like this again (:30 second mark)
