I did something similar to your PAC usb extension replacing a cigarette lighter plug, but I got something that looks a little more OEM.  Its a Chevy product, but it looks good in my Ford.

and the best part is that the back of the plug is a simple Mini USB plug. I can use any brand cable and any length with it.

I also ran an HDMI extension cord from the AVIC into my center console, so i can change out the Chromecast with any other HDMI peripheral.  I have to take pics of my setup

Your link did not work for me, but I did find what you used,

GM Part number 20944422(usb port) and 20983937(cover)

biggest difference, PAC is 11.00 and GM part is 30.00+

You didnt have to use that monstrous mount for the PAC, did you? Do you have a pic?  When I get back in my truck Monday, I will take pics of my HU amd the cig lighter plug

No, that is just for optional install. I pulled cig lighter and moved lighter plug into glove compartment for additional power. Installed the round USB, where cig lighter was. Looks oem. Ran that to USB1 for iPhone6. iPhone dash mount is real close and use the short USB to lightning cable to phone(no wires hanging).

I would probably have purchased the gm part, had I known about it. I like the cover.
