OK well my last problem about the "Mother's Maiden Name" lockout screen was solved by sending the unit back to the factory to get fixed. Not good for a less-than-1-month-old unit, eh?

But I'm still having 1 annoying issue. Not all the time, but enough to pi** me off. When I slow down to a stop at lights, intersections, whatever- the red arrow keeps moving at EXACTLY 7.6 MPH. How do I know that? I go to the Vehicle Dynamics page and it says so. Every single time, 7.6 MPH. Crawling along when I should be stopped.

I have 2005 Nissan Xterra that doesn't have a "speed sense" wire. The install shop put in a JVC KV-PG1 Speed Pulse generator to solve my problem (sensor is over driver side rear wheel). They have no idea why it does this thing either, the response of "Well, I've seen that before" isn't very comforting either.

Anyone have any ideas?

I think that setup is exactly what's causing the problem.

Probably a faulty speed sensor or just a bad setup with it is sending a speed signal to your D3 when you're not moving.

Disconnect the speed sensor they installed and see if the problem persists.

If disconnecting it ends the problem, go back to the installers and tell them to fix it. You paid for a properly working setup, not an almost properly working setup.

i put speed pulse generators on the drive shaft. perhaps thats not posible in your car but maybe it would help

Vehicle doesn't have a speed pulse wire factory installed. They didn't install a SPG when I first had the unit and it was horrible: the nav jumped sometimes 20 miles at a go, it froze, it was horrible. The SPG made it better but still not great.

I will ask them to replace the SPG and see what happens.

I would try it for a couple thousand miles without any SP at all. My D1 and 2 were very accurate without it. Only hooked it up on my D3 because it was going in a new vehicle and it was pretty easy to do so I figured it was worth a shot. My old ones were very accurate without VSS though

OK then I will try to disconnect it and see what happens. Maybe there is something wrong with it.

Yeah, you don't really need a speed pulse. Mine is pretty accurate without any speed pulse connected.

I was going to hook the VSS wire up to my D3 when I moved it to the new Tacoma but I decided not to because the speedo doesn't accurately show the actual speed I'm going.

Necro: are you sure? When they originally installed it, there was no VSS wire hooked up and the nav was all over the place. Are you suggesting unplugging it and letting the Nav unit do its job without the speed pulse?

I'm certainly willing to give that a try. How often does the D3 "capture" a GPS signal?

When you first hook it up without a speed pulse, it takes time to calibrate so it will be off a little. Give it a few hundred miles and you should be fine

what does the speed pulse wire look like coming from my d3?, i might try unhooking it to see how my d3 performs with out it also.

Should I then unplug the unit, allow it to sit a few minutes to power off and then disconnect the SP wire and just let the D3 do its thing for for a few 100 miles or so? Let me know.

I bought this unit (D3) not really concerned about the navigation, but since it was just connecting a couple wires I gave it a shot. I searched the net and got info off of this site giving me 3 answers to the VSS wire for the O5 Magnum SXT. 1- there is not vss wire, 2- green/brown wire passenger side firewall and 3- orange/white wire driver side firewall. The green/brown wire gave me nothing. The orange/white wire gave me a reading that just jumped all of the place whether I was sitting idle or moving. So, for now the VSS is not hooked up. The GPS follows ok, but accurate and sometimes leaving the road after turns. When I put a route in, I can follow the route, but only because I know where I am going. If I were in an unfamiliar place I would miss turns. Also the "voice" telling me to turn never says anything besides, "you have arrived at your destination", and it said that after I past the destination. Any clue of what to do next?---besides buying another kit or installing a speed pulse. Will it become more accurate? Will the voice began to work after a while?

One other thing is that I replaced my old 6600 with this unit. I used the same wiring kit that the shop used that installed that radio. They never hooked up the illumination, but I didn't really matter on the 6600. This unit is twice as bright at night. Any alternate options on where to run the illumination to?

Been in about 4 days now. Illumination wire wasn't hooked up before on previous radio and there was not a orange wire on the wiring harness that the shop used. That left me with no illumination for this radio.

Also, at night shouldn't the map view be dark?

The map will switch to black background at night, but it does that through the illumination wire. As for your GPS being off, it is likely still calibrating but should get better. It takes longer when you don't use the VSS
