Speed pulse without VSS?

Just as the subject says, is it possible to show a speed pulse in the connection status if you don't have the VSS hooked up?

I just installed XM with NavTraffic and now my GPS is very jumpy. What I mean by that is it shows me on the right location but moves very slow down the road. Then the arrow "jumps" forward to correct for my position.

I've never had this problem before and I've always had the VSS hooked up. I'm thinking I may have bumbed the VSS loose while I had the radio pulled. BUT, I still show a speed pulse in the connection status while I'm driving down the road. It will show 0 when I'm stoped and around 12 or 13 when I'm going around 55mph.

I have a Z2 (upgraded from a Z1), showing 7 GPS sattiltes with 3 bars and my XM connection shows "Very Good." I've tried reseting the XM box and a level 1 reset on the Z2.

I'm guessing from the pic this is in a Magnum? How did you tap your VSS? Did you use a CHRYAH05 or equivalent or tap your VSS at the computer?

I used C2R-CHY PAC Interface Harness. I have the Z1 with the ND-BT1 for my bluetooth and the CD-IB100II for my IPod. The car is a 2005 Magnum SXT with audio package to include factory amp.

Never had a problem with my GPS and ran the system for about 6 months happy as can be. I have the 2-wire bypass, bluetooth update and upgraded to the Z2 by pulling the harddrive and re-imaging. Everything worked great and GPS was very smooth.

It wasn't until I installed the XM NavTraffic unit did the GPS get very jumpy. I checked all connection statuses and everything looks normal. XM has updated and shows "trfc" on my map. XM signal is good, GPS signal is 7 to 8 sattilites and 3 bars as normal. And, I still show a Speed Pulse.

Everything in my head points to the VSS but why would I still get a speed pulse if it wasn't working right?

Double-check your VSS connection at the PAC interface. Was your system professionally installed, or did you do it yourself? If a shop did the install, your best bet is to have them deal with it, in case a part is defective, since they would be able to swap it easily.

No, I used this forum and did everything myself. I have a background in installing radios, but this was the most complex I've ever gotten.

I'm going to doublecheck all my connections tomorrow, and if I have to, re-wire everything from the start.

I guess I needed confirmation that I wasn't missing something before I jumped back into the wireing.

Thanks jimmy303, at least I know I'm not going crazy!

Make sure that the grey GPS ant plug is firmly seated into the radio.

He would get an error message if it wasn't.

Fixed.

Before I jumped into things, I noticed my Mph were WAY off as reported by the GPS. It said I was going 11 Mph when I was really going 45 or 50. This caused me to move along the maps a lot slower than I really was.

I reseated all plugs and harnesses on the Z2, and rewired the VSS connection with the PAC wireing harness.

I cleaned up all the wireing and doublechecked the XM and GPS antenna placement.

After getting everything back together, I reset all the 3D calibration and reset all factory settings.

I don't know what piece of all that fixed the problem, but the GPS is working beautifully again!

Thanks for the help.
