I have an 02 cadillac deville dts with bose and onstar and im going to install a d3 myself. I already have the onstar/ bose interface.

4 questions-

1-Do the reverse signal & speed signal extention leads NEED to be connected for the unit to work? I ask because i think i dont have them.

2-What will be affected if not connected, etc...?

I will also be using the steering wheel control interface.

3- Will the Cruise control buttons/functions be affected with the interface?

I notice that alot of people mention a VSS wire

4-Since i am new to all this, whats the VSS wire for, what does it do and what does VSS mean?

Im new so please dont make me feel stupid.

Thanks and I appreciate the help.

The VSS is the speed signal wire. The speed sensor and back-up wires don't need to be hooked up for the unit to function properly. The only thing is that the GPS might be off a bit until the unit completes it's calibration cycle, which takes around 1 or 2 hundred miles or so.

SO YOU SAY THAT IF I HOOK IT UP WITH OUT THOSE WIRES, MY CAR POSITION ON THE NAV SCREEN WILL BE OFF A BIT. HOW MUCH IS A BIT?

AFTER THE 1 OR 2 HUNDERED MILE CALIBRATION CYCLE EVERYTHING WILL BE PERFECT RIGHT, INCLUDING THE BYPASS?

IS THE VSS ANOTHER NAME FOR THE SPEED SIGNAL WIRE THAT IS INCLUDED WITH THE D3 OR THEY TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WIRES?

VSS and Speed Sense are one in the same. My D3 actually got more accurate after I hooked up the VSS so I would do it if I were you. My D1 was perfect without it, but my D3 wasn't as accurate after thousands of miles so I hooked it up and it definitely improved. The reverse is necessary if you ever plan on getting a back-up cam
