Would you go out and check in your settings and look at your satellite strength? Ducatiboy and I have a question we're trying to figure out. Please let us know (1) How many satellites you see in the menu, (2) what color they are, and (3) where you have your antenna on the car. We both get anywhere from 6 to 8 satellites to pop up, but they are orange and never go green. Does anyone get a green satellite on their menu? Does orange indicate the strong signal?

Thanks guys!!

I typically have between 6 and 8 and they're always orange as well even if I'm in a wide open area. My guess is that Orange is a good signal strength.

My antenna is on the dash right up by the windshield (not tinted) right next to the XM antenna.

Satellite strength Green with 2 bars. 7 Orange Sats. Mounted on the top of the pass. side A-pillar (outside). Using the old antenna from my N1.

I think that orange is the strongest with yellow tracking.

I've got 8 Orange bars, then last 1 flickered to yellow and back to Orange

EVERYTHING is mounted on the rear trunk area

I've got 8 orange bars and one goes to yellow. To the left of the satellite icons is a green vertical bar (like the ones seen on a cell phone). The most I got was 2. My antenna is mounted in my dashboard, no metal above the antenna. The antenna is completely stealth same goes with the Sirius antenna. So far no problems with reception on either antenna.

I just got mine installed, I'll check for you tomorrow.

People can stop checking. We were working on gps antenna placement and were trying different locations and I thought I saw "green" sat's. Like they would be gone, yellow, orange and then green. But I must have been mistaken. Thanks everyone for looking.

I guess ORANGE is the best color for the sats.

Yep! I guess so Steve! I think I'll just leave my antenna where it is. It seems to be doing fine there after all.

I just got it installed Friday so I am not great with it yet.

Well, I know you guys don't want any more info, but I thought I would share this with everyone else for future reference.

I chose to install my nav antenna under the dash on a metal support bar so that it is completely hidden. That's where I had the antenna from the OEM system I retrofitted, but that antenna was much larger.

Anyway, with my hidden installation, I'm getting 6 orange and 2 yellow satellites, so it doesn't appear to effect signal strength too much.

That's where we have ours and get similar...if not better...reception using metal plates we cut to mount the antenna. I also have my XM there. When you close the door on the radio enclosure of the Aviator, there is absolutely no sign of anything special on the car.

Mine is under the dash. The metal plate the z1 comes with is stuck to the top of my air condition vents and the gps is on that. I get 6-5 sats in orange sometimes the 8th but usually its yellow. However I am usually 1-2 bars, very rarely 3.

try replacing the stock metal foil "plate" with a thicker metal plate. I found one in the machine shop at my office and put it in and I believe I get better signal strength. Mine is under the dash also, and I was getting poor signal strength with the stock metal, like you described, but with the thicker metal plate, I get 2-3 bars and usually 6-8 sats most orange a couple yellow.

Having more metal mass definitely helps, if I have problems that will be my solution.
