Can anyone recommend a few shops in the bay area that can install the Avic-Z1 into my bmw 330ci?

I understand that its a real pita and I'd like to start getting some quotes to figure out how much I need to save up.

Thanks in advance~

Hey krsfx,

I also have a tC and just bought a Z1 and Bluetooth adapter. Maybe you could help answer some questions?

1. Did you need to get a trim kit to fit the Z1 in the console?

2. Did you get an adapter to use the steering wheel audio controls? I'll be buying a PAC unit to do this and hope that it works...

3. Were you able to use the stock iPod connectors in the car?

Thanks!

I also heard Audio Image in Burlingame does good installs. They quoted me $250-300 for the install and PAC unit for audio controls.

1. The trim kit is used to fill the gaps on the sides. The installer had to drill holes in the stock mounting bracket to allow the unit to sit farther back in the console and enable the stereo cover to close.

2 & 3. I have an '05 tC, so mine doesn't have the steering wheel audio controls and stock iPod connector. Check out scionlife.com. I believe some people with '06 tCs have addressed your questions on that website.

Good luck!

Which trim kit did you use? Was it the black trim piece that came with the Z1?

I didn't use the black trim piece that came with the Z1. I used a Metra double din kit, part # 95-8202. I bought mine from Crutchfield on the phone for $12.99. It's exactly like this:
