search d3 and avi in this forum, or check the manual. i don't remember if there was a way to get it to work, but i believe the manual said divx, and didnt mention avi

Divx only, no avi. You will need to convert your avi files to divx format and burn it as a divx disk. I use a mac with toast and all I have to do is drag the avi files into toast and burn as a divx disk. No coversion nessecary. It should be similar if using a pc.

The Avic D3 will play a data disc with .avi files burned directly onto the disc, but the .avi files must be encoded with Divx or Xvid codecs. Also, the codec must be labeled as DIVX. Click the link above for the thread.

I just drag my avi file or mpeg file and jsut put them in nero software and burn it as video disk and the d3 reads it fine with no problem

That works as well, but what Nero does is decode the divx file into a video format. Since Nero is no where near a video processing program, expect degradation in video quality.
