Just had my AVIC-Z! by a certified shop and they installed the Ducati Flasher. They left the parking brake wire loose and the unit would not power up. After grounding the parking brake wire the unit worked with no problems.

2 days later I now have a problem with my electronic heating system. Help!!!!! any ideas :?

Sounds like either you've got a bad Z1, or a bad install...

There's no reason (apart from lack of power/ground) that the Z1 shouldn't at least boot up.

as for your heating system... Well, if I were you, I'd be ripping out the Z1 first (If they installed it right the heater will start working correctly) sounds more like a "dry joint" somewhere in the harness system they put together for ya.

Also, it's MID SUMMER, why do you need a heater???

I hate to worry anyone about my circuit, but they could just disconnect the "red" wire from my circuit to your car's wiring to take that out of the equation. I would guess it's not my circuit, cause made them and they are tested before shipping, but just cause you never know... If they want to take my circuit out of the "system" just disconnect the red wire of my circuit.

But I agree, grounding the parking brake wire the system worked, I would look at the main ground for the radio, it sounds like the system might not have a good ground and by grounding the parking brake wire, you gave it one. Just a possibility.

Not to insult your install but I would put my money on the install before faulty hardware. Just a gut feeling.

Boy do I agree. This really sounds like an installer problem....and it's probably a ground either missing or losing it's integrity. (poor connection)

You have to remember...most of these shops try and install these systems as quick as possible so they can move on to the next job. You don't always get the best job...and they rarely take the time to investigate just what they can tap into and what they can't. I'm afraid you are stuck with figuring this out yourself or taking it back to the shop and have them do it. The problem with that is...if they screwed it up the first time, what makes you think they will take the time to get it right this time...especially when this one is for free!

By the way, with the brake ground hooked up, you will run into issues with your bypass mod that will require a reset if I'm not mistaken. If you are uncomfortable with your skills to do this properly, I would search for someone or a shop who has a lot of experience with this particular model.

mitcha, how is your FM/AM signal?
I had a shop install the Z1 in my 06 Sequoia, however FM is weak and AM is pretty much not there anymore. The original radio was the JBL 6 CD (model 86120). The Seq has glass antenna and the Z1 manual says in this case to hook up the blue Z1 wire to the antenna booster power supply terminal wire. Anyone know which wire to connect the blue wire to? I went back to the shop and they claimed that my Seq did not have that connection. (Btw, the ducati flasher works great.)

Looks like you have an amplified antenna. You will need to connect the Blue wire from the Z1 to your car's antenna. If you used an adapter to connect your antenna to the Z1 there may be an "extra" wire on the adapter...that is the wire you want to connect to with the Z1's Blue wire.

I've notice the am is pretty week as well and I have a Toyota Tundra which shares a similar design with the Sequioa but i rarely use am anyway so no huge loss..
