I would appreciate your help as I need to determine if I have to order a http://www.sminntech.com/z1flasher.html in order to run my radio.
I have a May 06 Z1 so normally I would need the flasher to run unlocked. I plan on buying an upgraded HD with the Z2 software. Would I still need to use the flasher or will the 2 wire bypass work?
I am not sure if there is a hardware difference between the build or was it just software on the HD. Thank you in advance.

Should only need the 2 wire bypass after the Z2 upgrade. If it were me, I would wait until then.
You don't need to buy anything. Just do the bluetooth update to your Z1 and it will be bypassable via the 2-wire method like the Z2. Then you won't have to pull the deck out when you swap HDs since the bypass will already be done
