I'm researching the AVIC Z2 unit and the posibillity to have the unit purchased and installed in the states in a 2003 Volvo XC90 which will be shipped in Europe (Greece)

My questions are:

1. Whould this unit work there?

2. Pioneer US says that it will not work

3. Are there any hacks or tricks to resolve this "isue"

4. If unable to achieve the Z2 option is there an equivelant unit for sale in Europe (Don't think Z2 is available there yet)

I searched the web and found the pioneer.eu link also the AVIC-HD3BT (step down model) for 2770 Euros installed that's $4000 plus back up camera and bluetooth option we're talking easy $5000 :shock:

Just trying to take advantage of the cheap prices here in the States and not get taken by anyone over there.

Thanks

HD3(BT) is the european version of the Z2, including bluetooth functionality.(that's the BT part  ).

Major differences between Z2 and the HD3 are the radio part (FM receiver including RDS and TMC for trafic guidance on the HD3), and the European map database of course, as well as the region code for the DVD player...(oh, and no problems with any bypass of course, as in the European version all you need to do is permanently connect the handbrake signal to ground  )

Official Pioneer price here for the HD3BT (that includes bluetooth) is about 2400,- Euro's . On the internet you can pick it up for less, seen them for around 2000,- Euro's...

Thanks for the reply.

So are you saying that the HD3BT (Z2) IF installed in the States there is no way to format with European maps(since is loaded with map of US)??

and since the DVD region is US i have no luck??

I have no clue about any GPS and since my time is limited any replies are very welcomed.

Sould I buy/install the Z2 in the States and ship the car and find a way(hopefully) to bypass or reformat with the Euro version???

-OR-

Bite the bullet and pay up the _ _ _ over there.

I apreciate your help.

Well, like I said, if you use a Z2 in Europe, you will definately miss the benefit of the trafic redirection, as this is almost universally used via RDS radio in Europe, which is not supported by the Z2 (it has a different radio receiver). I guess the region codes for the DVD are not too important if you don't want to play local DVDs

I have no idea whether you can get a European map database for the Z2, I suspect not but you would have to check with Pioneer...

It would certainly be a lot less hassle to just get a European HD3BT...

Thanks again,

I'm in the look out for the HD3BT in ebay and other european sites.
