Volume output differs between nano 2G and nano 3G

Love my AVIC-D3 on my Touareg. Abt Electronics did the install over the summer and they did an excellent job.

However, I now swap iPods frequently. The output sound level when the nano 2G is connected is consistent between the iPod, XM and standard radio. When I connect my nano 3G, the nano's sound output is much less than XM and standard radio. When I switch between XM and/or radio to the iPod I have to substantially increase the volume. When I switch from the iPod to XM or radio, the sound is extremely loud.

I do not have sound check 'on' for either iPod.

Any ideas????? Thanks, in advance.

IIRC, there's an option in the ipod's menu that lets you set it's maximum volume output. Maybe the 3G's max is set lower than the 2G's is.

Thanks. I will give that a try.

I know the max volume setting effects the volume at the headphone jack, but I don't know if it effects the music put out through the data port, as that's not amplified like the headphone jack is. But it's worth a shot.

If you can't get the new ipod to put out full volume, you could always use the source level adjustment to raise the volume for ipod.

Yeah, but then the older ipod would be loud as hell. He's trying to make it so both ipods play at the same level, so he doesn't have to adjust any settings when he switches between the two.

I have a 3G iPod nano and no issues...sound level is consistent across all AV sources. Did you try turning OFF the sound level check setting on the iPod?
