Anyone in here have a Chevy Silverado with a z1? Can't manually over ride saftey features at night with the flash of headlights. During the day works well, at night nothing. The problem has to do with the light sensor that is automatically putting the system into night mode...

Ordering Ducatiboy's mod this morning, BUT, wanted to see if anyone had any tricks up there sleeve for a temporary solution to manually over ride as I am going on a road trip tonight and would love to use the system in full tonight as I drive.

Thanks to all.

Well, I was thinking some more about this, and there are a couple things.

If you could find your light sensor (most likely in the top of the dash or the rear view mirrir), you could have a flashlight, shine it at the light sensor, make it think it's daylight and then you can manually flash your lights (it sucks but will let you get the functionality for this road trip and you don't have to remove anything).

If you are really good with taking the radio out, you can unhook the orange/white ILL wire from the car's ILL wire, run the Z1's ILL wire to a toggle switch and then from that switch to 12V switched. Then when you flip the switch it will tell the unit the lights are on. Start the car and instead of flashing the head lights, flip that switch. and when it's night out, flip that switch on and the nav will dim. It's a little bit of a hack but it would work.

Or you can just use a flash light for now and put my circuit in later.

You'll get a kick out of this. Last night around 1A, I was on the same line of thinking of you and figured, let me just pull the light sensor out, and just put a toggle switch in that will actually be on the dashboard, once I get the mod, I will take the toggle off, and put the light sensor back in properly. ONE slight problem, when I was pulling the sensor up, it opted to go down, and fell into the dashboard. Without disassembling the entire dash I was finally able to fish the sensor back out and get back through the dash. Unfortuantley the flashlight didn't work. I guess it is a fairly smart device that is actually looking for light from all angles as opposed to just a light flashing down on it..

I just placed the order with overnight delivery, so hopefully I will have it asap and I can just have it installed for for my trip later in the week.

Your light sensor doesn't immediately change your system. It has a delay built into it. It prevents everything from switching to "night" mode when you go through tunnels, etc. It would have switched for you eventually.

Actually the second I go into a tunnel my car dash lights go on and screen goes to night mode. Oh Well

And got side tracked into thinking you were asking people if they had the option to wash their truck while the thing booted up.

To continue answering a post that's almost a year old  , a lot of gms, if you set the parking brake before turning the ignition on. The auto headliights will not come on unitl the parking brake is released.
