Does anyone know if the AVIC-Z1 navigation unit will fit into a 2007 Chevy Avalanche? I am thinking of buying a unit (AVIC-Z1), but not sure if it will fit into my 2007 Avalanche without much modifications.

Thanks!

Sorry about the size..

Cool, was that an off the shelf kit or did you have to make the trim ring yourself?
Posted Jul 18, 2006 · 19:58 UTC#5
off the shelf from Metra..

FYI, the 2006 impala and monte carlo double dins are the exact same kit as the 2007 tahoe, suburban and avalanche.

On the 2007 Avalanche Pic w/ the Z1, is that a gap on the bottom of the trim plate? If so, then the Nav unit isn't an exact fit?

Oh yeah...and where did you get the wiring harness for the Avalnche? I was told it's not out yet!

Kinda looks like it is tilted a bit? Maybe.

Or maybe it's not tilted, and that extra space allows for the slide mechanism at the bottom? Regardless, from the normal vantage point actually sitting in a seat, I highly doubt that would be visible.

LOL, picky picky you guys are, there is a slight gap. this pic was when I was test fitting.

The HVAC controls are seperate and overlap the install face, and the lower cigarette lighter section with the parking assist and pedal buttons over lap the HVAC. It cleaned up in the final assembly as I to noticed the slight spacing problem.

There's plenty of room in the 07 dash to run anything you want, it's pretty rediculous actually in how much space is behind the fake wood trim panel.

Metra has their harnesses out, you can order them now on line or over the phone through JP customs.

Here's metra's PDF for the wiring harness for a little proof and a link to JP's product line of both the bose and no bose kits:

first two items are the new metra wiring harnesses..

For what it's worth, I thought it looked great!

Looks real good! If you could ,would you give alist as to what I would need to purchase to properly install the AVIC-Z1, (like dash kit(s), wiring harnesses) and whatever else I would need.

Thanks

Just one other question: Do you have on-star? I was told that on-star would not be retained if you don't connect it with certain adapters or harnesses or whatever it is! Is this true?

Thanks

eddie, if you go to the links I supplied, you will find that all of the items you need are listed.

The wiring harness from metra retains all stock options to the vehicle including onstar, chimes and turn signals. Yes I said the signals, the 07 model lineup has a warning ding that kicks in after 45 seconds of driving 15mph, gets the folks that forget to turn the darn thing off.

Ducati thanks for the props, I ordered your flasher mod a few days back, that will complete my project.

No problem, looks like a real nice install. Every order I had has shipped, so you should get it soon. Please post on how the install goes.

Hey emay;

Thanks for the site that has the harnesses and Dash kits. I was looking for them all of the web. I was told by a few places that the kits won't be ready for about another 3 months. Glad I stumbled across this site. I ordered the kits and will have them here on Friday and my installer is installing my AVIC-Z1 into my 07 AV on Saturday. Thanks again for the info. Great job!

QUESTION:

Do I need to purchase the Steering Wheel Audio Module
(SWI-X) from JP CUSTOMS for my 07 Avalanche in order to use the exsisting volume (audio) buttons on my steering wheel when I put the AVIC-Z1 in it?

Glad I could help eddie -

As for your question about the SWI-x, it will not work. Pac is supposed to be releasing something very slick fairly soon. I heard within a month or two. Since the GMt900 platform is now basically a rolling local area network, the current Swi-x adapter is not capable of working in these vehicles.

The world is changing..

What is the manufacture date of the Z1? If it's July 06 then try disconnecting the flasher and manually flashing the lights and see if that bypasses the lockouts.

I am buy a 2007 Tahoe LTZ this weekend and am trying to figure out which direction to go with NAV. I like the idea of having a stock system and OEM nav, but like the Z1 unit alot and am considering installing one. The question is: what are the shortcomings you have noticed thus far in your avalanche?

If I get OEM NAV in the car and decide to change it, does it make things more challenging?

THanks in advance for helping out a newbie.

Thanks all for the great information. I have been searching for weeks on this topic. I kept hearing that it wouldnt work. I have ordered the items listed. As are as steering wheel controls are concerned can anyone tell me if these should work so that I can retain that function.
http://cgi.ebay.com/PAC-SWI-PS-Steering ... dZViewItem

Here is the list of what I need. Let me know if there is something that I missed.

1. Avic-Z1
2. Double Din Kit (JP Customs)
3. On Star Lan Data bus interface (JP Customs)
4. PAC-SWI-PS for Steering wheel control
5. Pioneer IPOD Interface controller

I'm sure I missed something, so if anyone can let me know. Thanks Again.
