I know this topic had probbably been covered before but Im thinking about buying an ipod classic 160 gig to use with my D3.

Ive searched through the forum for answers to questions and concerns but none are definite.

Questions-

1) Will Ipod Classic it play video through the D3 like the old ipod video or not?

Various posts say YES others say NO, and others have "But's..." in them. Please clear up.

Same question with music playback and song info display.

2) Does the ipod classic sync to the D3 like the previous nano and old ipod video did?

Various other posts state that the track info does not refresh when you switch songs, etc.... other posts say everything is fine.

Please explain. I dont wanna buy a Classic to find out its not smooth with the D3.

If thats the case ill Buy an old Ipod video 80 GB.

Thanks in advance fellas'.

check the dates on the posts you have read. the latest firmware for the ipod fixed the audio problem and enabled the tv out.

video is not 100% fixed. though it works for me, others still seem to have a problem.

audio has been fixed and i have heard no one say anything to the contrary

I tried that bro but some dates overlap and the posts contradict.

What audio problem are you speaking of? Is it the one i mentioned about the track info not loading on to the D3?

how is the video with you?

Is the firmware update available through the iTunes automatic updates that load up to the iPod as soon as its plugged in, or do you get this elsewhere?

How satisfied are you with the classic and d3?

The classic I bought had the update firmware already installed. The track info worked fine and the ipod worked well when using it for audio.

When using it for video, you have to enable video out either by prompt or always on. When you want to play a video, you have to select "Video" from the top right of the ipod home screen on the D3. You then start your video (from the ipod) and either after the prompt (if you chose prompt) or after the video starts, you have to disconnect the ipod cable and reconnect it. This will then start the video output on the D3. From what I hear, you have to scroll through all the movies but I can not confirm as I tried only 1 video.

I returned my classic 80gb because I couldnt see paying $75+ dollars for a ipod that could be had new in the last gen and work flawlessly. Until they fix this issue, Im going to sit on the fence. I have a 4gb 1st gen nano that I use now for my music. I want to get a touch or a iphone for xmas, but they need to fix this crap before i take that plunge. Until then, I may just get that last gen ipod. Who knows, it will just be my car library anyways....
