Anyone know the color of the illumination wire in the Ford harness. The adapter harness form crutchfield has the orange/white wire from the harness but the Ford harness has no matching wire in that slot. I tried to find 12v with the lights on only, but can't find it. Crutchfield recommended running a wire from the headlight but that does't sound good.

They would be correct. Sort of. Your truck uses a digital signal to turn on the lights for the radio. So, no, there will not be a dimmer wire in the harness. My tech info says to tap into a blue/white wire in the driver's kick panel. It should read 12 v with the lights on and nothing when off.

What happens if you don't hook up the illumination wire?

Map won't go dim at night, and it's kinda like driving with a flashlight in your face.

Hooked it up in about 20 min. Works great. Blue/White wire was right on.

hooked it up on mine. could not find the kick panel location however, if you pull the vent out above the light switch, it is easy to pull out the light switch, and the blue white wire is easy to get to.

tested it and it works great.
