I want to buy AVEC-Z2 for my Pontiac Grand Prix 2006. This seems to be by far the best GPS unit out there, which is reflected in price, making it a hefty investment. So there's lots of Qs I'm looking for answers to. If some of the more experience users here could take their time to answer them, it would be great. Also, I think it might be a good base for a much-needed FAQ section for n00bs like me. Sorry if any of these are stupid or not applicable.
1. What's the deal with bypassing DVD warning? What are pros and cons of 2-wire and blinker method? Does either require professional installation or can be done by a person with an average IQ?
2. Is it possible to import a speedcams POI database into Z2? If so, which format does it use? Is there a way to set a warning for them?
3. Is it possible to connect built-in wheel controls to Z2 unit? If so, are any additional products (modules) required and where to get them?
4. What is Z1 to Z2 upgrade? Is it possible to get a Z1 unit, download Z2 drive image, write it to the drive and have full Z2 functionality (are the 2 units hardware-identical)?
5. Is it possible to upgrade the HDD in Z2 with a higher-capacity one?
6. What are the options from protecting the unit from theft?
7. How hard is it to install the unit yourself (with corresponding bluetooth, xm, and cam modules)? How much does a professional installation usually cost?
8. Has anyone installed Z2 into Pontiac Grand Prix? Can you share your experience?
