can i control this unit from Z2 lcd ?

You will be able to go through the chapters, fast forward/rewind, change disks. Might need the remote to actually press play in the dvd menu though, been so long I can't remember

Correct, you need the remote to actually hit play..(so dumb)
And I think in order to view it on the z1,z2 screen you have to run the ip bus and composite rca video jack to make it think it is a rear monitor...
Mine shows up as EXT1. I thought originally it would have been M-CD but it must only be for cd changer.
