Screen Detail and GPS Info

I'm considering very seriously about purchasing the D3; however, I have a couple of questions that may impact my decision.

1. Is there any way to get music information (i.e. song/artist display) while in Navigation mode? This is a very important feature to me because I like to have my navigation map on most of the time (even when I know where I'm going). I like learning streets and seeing on the map exactly where I'm going. However, based on my experience at Circuit City, the only way I could get any song information was to go to the Music Mode which subsequently changed screens and no longer provided me with my map. Is there any way around this? If not, is there any other device that allows for this?

I liked the way that one of the GM Stock Navigation systems worked. You could split the screen and have half the map and the other half audio. The other features were not that great on the system, but I liked that feature.

2. I believe I remember reading that the system allows for voice recognition, is that correct or am I thinking of another unit? I would really like the feature of just saying "go home" rather than having to push any buttons.

1} Kinda of. If you are using an iPod, when it switches to a new song, it will show the artist name and song on the bottom of the screen (overlayed over the map) for about 2-3 seconds. After that you can only see if by switching modes.

2} There is no voice-recognition for the device. If your phone supports voice dialing it can apparently use that, but I think its the Z units that have voice command.

1. See what the previous poster said. Keep in mind though that if you leave it on the map screen, it will still give you voice prompts and switch back to the map automatically when you are approaching a turn.

2. The N1,N2,N3 all had this option. Standard on the Z1/2. D-series never got it

I think you meant, if you leave it on the iPod/music source you will still get the prompts and it will automatically switch to the map at turns...

(which it will)

Thank you all, who posted in this thread. Your replies have been very helpful to me. A follow-up question though concerning the statement that was made above

.

I'm a little confused, what was standard on these other units but not on the D-3?

The D1/2/3 don't have the option of adding voice recognition. It comes with the Z, you can buy it for the N, but nada for the D

Thanks for the clarification. :D
