Hi guys, I just bought my D3 from best buy for $899 canadian and they offered me the exteneded warrenty for $130 for 4 years.

Just wondering how many people had problems that needed repair or if they think its worth it?

its really up to you....

extreme heat and extreme cold can really f*** with drives (my ipod was the victim of hot weather). That is covered under the service plan and SHOULDNT be a problem to service (at least at my bby)

sending things off to the manufacturer for manufacturer warranty work......you'll be without ur unit for as short as 2 weeks and as long as never

also, something that many people do not know- the service plan covers cleaning and alignment during those 4 years...take advantage of that and have them do that every once and a while

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna get the warranty.

I've had the warranty before on camera's and printers and I've pretty much had to have the products replaced within 2 or 3 years. Sometimes they don't have that model and they give me the next model up.

I've never had a Nav unit before so I'm not sue what could go wrong and how often. But getting the warranty I'll have peace of mind.

The best buy warranties (service plan, or whatever they call them) are well worth it. If ANYTHING happens to the equipment, you bring it in and they replace it. Period. I bought a laptop computer. I was talking to the sales rep about what is and isn't covered in the full warranty. He said anything and everything... He literally told me that right before the 4 year service plan expires, I could smash the computer on the ground to the point where repair isn't an option, bring it in, and they would replace it with one of equal or lesser value.

gotta love accidental handling warranties....i think its incredibly stupid not get it on something like a camera or a laptop (unless it's just as expensive as the unit....which in that case....you're buying a piece of shit)

Best Buy does not cover physical damage.

not exactly - no physical damage on the regular service plans....but

accidental coverage on cameras and notebooks is available..

Oh... I guess the replacement of damaged equipment only applies to portable devices maybe... But that doesn't change the fact that for $130 if anything goes wrong with the unit in 4 years, it's covered for free. Which is a fairly geed deal IMO.
