POI use with Voice Commands

I have been trying to use voice command to locate POI's and I think my unit is jacked. I can use the screen, do POI and then type in say McDonalds and it will pull up a list of McDonalds and I can pick one and go there. If I try to use the voice command and say either Destination, then POI OR if I just say POI it asks me for a POI , NO MATTER WHAT I SAY and I have tried about 100 times or more with the different places like McDonalds, Burger King, Best Buy, anything, the unit will NOT EVER pick one, not like it sometimes gets it, it NEVER gets it, it brings up usually cities that have some incling of a similarity to what I said. I can say BurgerKing and it will say Leesburg. Very very frustrating. My unit understands everything I say (most of the time) even while driving 70 and I have tried this POI thing while sitting still in my driveway with the air off and the windows up and radio off.

Can someone confirm for me that you should be able to say POI and then give a place like Taco Bell, McDonalds, BurgerKing or something and it pull it up. Thank you. If I know it is supposed to work I can be more persistant in my repair wishes. Thank you.

Yeah, I agree it *should* work... mine has never managed to find the local sex shop either

I know I have gotten mine to work. Perhaps it was under Vicinity Search as opposed to POI. I have used it for banks, malls, etc. But, I just don't remember if I did it under POI or Vicinity Search.

It sucks on mine too. I've managed to get it to work once or twice. It usually works on vicinity search, but that feature is just about worthless since it only searchs just a mile or so around you. I can say "Best Buy" in vicinity search from my house which is 3 miles away, and it finds nothing, but when I'm a mile or so away, it will find it. On POI, if I type in "Best Buy," it finds every one within a couple hundred miles. If I say it, it comes up with with a city name every time.

Well, so at least mine isn't the only one. The thing is that when I called Pioneer the guy said it should work the way I stated. Obviously if it has the choice POI then you aren't saying a city since you can do that under address search or whatever. Seems like it must be a bug. So if a few more people would be willing to try and confirm then I won't go through the trouble of trying to get it replaced and will just wait until an update comes out in 6 to 12 months.

I have had no problems with the Vicinity Search through voice. It hasn't even given me troubles if I am too far away. I say the name of a shopping center it brings me there... I tried it today with things that are 10-15 miles away and I haven't had any problems. I actually find the feature to be quite useful. The only problem that I have had is if I mumble then it goes to the wrong place.... There is my .02

That's interesting that vicinity search works better in some areas than others. I'll have to try using it next time I go to my dad's and see how it works along the way. Hopefully pioneer will fix all these little annoying bugs in the first map update.
