I was thinking about upgrading my D2 to D3. I wanted to know if the d3 could use the same wiring as the d2. So basically i just want to remove the harness, antenna and other stuff from the d2 and plug in the d3...will that work? I also have XM, backup camera and the ipod cd-ib100ii, will that work also? I am doing this for the advanced ipod display and to get bluetooth. Thanks everyone!

The ipod adaptor will not work, you need to use the CDI200 instead. The harnesses are also different but shouldn't take you more than a minute or two to switch. Everything else can be reused

okay will the wires for the cd-ib100ii be the same because i dont know how to change the wiring

the harness, is that hard to put on?

also is there any special wiring useful or extra to do?

i know that my installer didnt hook up hte illumination wire, so that will be put in tomorrow...anything else feel free to add..thx

is the update worth the money and trouble, i could always get the bluetooth part...

the main reason is for the on screen ipod controls..it suxs

Absolutely. The controls with the cd-i200 are amazing, and it's also a lot faster than the 100ii is.

If you are paying an installer to do this for you, it should literally take him minutes to switch over the harnesses. The CDI200 also just plugs directly into the back of the D3 and then run it to wherever you normally plug in your ipod.

You should be able to re-use the wiring harness adapter you used with the old unit.
