  1. It's extraordinarily annoying, and just flat out wrong.

How on earth anyone managed to code it like this in the first place, let alone have it get past QA, is anyones guess.

Seems AVH units have had this behaviour for some time too, someone posted here about the 8400BH over a year ago.

As you have guessed, the AVH units seem to be loading the FAT32 drive contents based upon order the files were stored. Since most people prefer a different sort order for the files, check out http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/393280/FAT-32-Sorter  which should solve your problems after you have copied the MP3 files you want to your USB or SD sticks.

  2. If there are any Mac users out there, iFFMPEG (http://www.iffmpeg.com) works pretty well.

Select Containers->AVI then under settings change the video codec to 'XVID'. Also change the resolution to 720x480 and the resulting video's seem to play fine. I was never able to get H264 MP4 files to load, but converting to XVID seems to work just fine (but slowly!)

  3. So my P8400BH is about a year old and just died yesterday - no power at all but the fuse seems fine. It's in a 2012 VW Beetle with a Metra Axxess XSVI-9003-NAV adapter and it occurred to me that this could be the cause of the problem. I don't have an easy way of testing the adapter or the head-unit so I'm thinking it might be time for a different head unit.

So what recommendations do folks have for me. My main usage is

    - USB attached iTouch for MP3's and AAC files

    - USB memory stick with both MP3's and some AVI's for keeping my wife amused as we drive.

    - BT for dealing with phone calls

    - Occasional FM radio

No need for CD or DVD media, and I have a Garmin Nuvi GPS on the dashboard.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!
