I've lurked here in the past and clearly you guys are passionate about music! I'm um.. kinda over the top when it comes to audio (I have some pretty high end home audio systems if anyone is interested in seeing a list) and started getting back into car systems a few years ago. I bought a 2007 Porsche Cayman a couple of years ago and hated the stock system; many feel it doesn't matter with the engine directly behind the driver's seat but I couldn't tolerate the lousy tunes. First up I used Dynamat on the engine cover, turnk, and doors.. there ya go quite a difference in cabin noise. I gutted the stock system and went with a pretty modest set up that works well in the Porsche:
Pioneer AVIC-X930BT NAV/CD/DVD/Bluetooth/Back Up Camera/HD Radio
Infinity Reference speakers all around, JL Audio 10" subwoofer (custom enclosure, drivers side trunk)
JL Audio Xd600/6 amplifier
While I was at it I installed an Escort 9500ci detector/jammer. This has MORE than paid for itself..
Back in March I bought a DD, a 2013 VW Jetta TDI Premium that came with the upgraded Fender system. Actually it sounds pretty good but there are a few things I don't much care for: it's butt-ugly, has no GPS, and you cannot connect a back up camera to it. Did I mention it's ugly??
Hopped on-line and bought a replacement head unit and associated goodies yesterday ($732 all in):
