  1. I have the F90 and 920. The 920 definitely starts up better and is the overall best but the only thing I don't like compared to the F90 is with the navigation. The F90 shows you 1-2 steps ahead in your route and displays it on the screen so you know if you need to be in the left or right lane. The 920 doesn't appear to have that and until you get to the .5 mile mark it won't tell you where to go which sucks especially if there is traffic, now if someone knows the fix let me know cause that would be sweet and the 920 would be perfect. As far as the 930 I believe the only main difference is the lack of voice controls and in all honesty I could care less about it but right now on Crutchfield you can get the 920/930 for the same price so I would just do the 920.

  2. the X920 in our new car it absolutely destroys the Kenwood unit.

Know how I know you're crazy?

Granted I owned the 6140 so I'm not sure what their most expensive one offered but the $1100 or so I paid for 6140 a year or so ago didn't seem justified and it had all the bells and whistles supposedly. The iPod interface is a billion times better on the 920 or any Pioneer for starters, the 6140 looked like a 486 computer from back in the day and the 920 is like a Intel core 7 and there's no way you can argue that...

I've owned navi's in this order:

    -Pioneer D3 (decent but lacking)

-Pioneer F90BT (slow startp/button finish flakes off)

-Kenwood DNX6140 (very basic interface overall, only BT voice commands, garmin is fast but lacks in options, good BT quality, horrible iPod interface)

-Pioneer X920 (good options/customization, great interface, voice commands for everything, fast VR dictionary, good BT quality, reduced screen glare, best iPod control out, overall the best unit I've owned so far)

I've spent some money as you see and still come back to Pioneer for a reason, they always seem to be the best out there at the time. Tell me a brand that can beat Pioneer right now in features and price? The 6160 is $200 more than the 920 these days and for what, a updated GUI? I emailed Kenwood a while back about their iPod interface to complain and they said it was due to usage rights by Apple. Looks like Pioneer has and will continue to have proprietary rights with Apple which leads to a better, more advanced way to control music.

  3. Why don't you like the nav? I've seen quite a few comments about how bad it is.

My wife has a Nissan Armada with factory nav and I think I like the Pioneer nav better, so I'm a little confused about all the negative coments.

    Matt

Try out a Kenwood with Garmin for a week and you'll see. It's not even in the same class.

Ummm, had a F90BT in my F150 then went with a Kenwood/Garmin unit in my 01 Cobra because of the slow start-up of the F90. I would choose that over the Garmin ANY day! Sure Garmin is very simple to use but it lacks in customization and options. After I sold my Cobra with the Kenwood DNX6140 and installed the X920 in our new car it absolutely destroys the Kenwood unit. The F90bt had a slow start-up time but the X920 beats the Kenwood unit hands down and it has a better glare reduction on the screen. My polarized sunglasses were worthless with the Kenwood LCD that they used as well. Wack! Speech is better in the 920 and the overall unit is just cleaner and more advanced and the Kenwood was more expensive a year ago than the 920 was this YEAR!

  4. crutchfield just bumped up their price to MSRP and are still out of stock so I ordered at 6ave who had it for $60 shipped this time. Just installe the 2.006 update cause of the clock issue. I've been reading about it possibly affecting the hardware bypass but I don't see how it could, any info on this yet?

  5. I've always owned some sort of Pioneer unit in all my vehicles but in 2005 I put a D-3 in the F150, worked great except for the map disc and the horrible ipod interface which lead to the constant editing on my ipod just to work with the D-3 and not spend hours cycling through artist. I sold the 05 and bought a 08, putting a F90bt in there. Slow startup but the ipod feature worked great! No more messing with my catalog just drag, drop and go! So then I purchased a 2nd vehicle in the form of a 01 Mustang Cobra which is my baby to say the least. I bought a Kenwood DNX6140 and thought the Garmin interface would be cool and figured everyone should have ipod functionality like the F90bt so I got it. BIG MISTAKE! iPod crap takes me back to the D3 and the Garmin interface isn't any better than the Teleatlus system concerning routes and the features are less with the Garmin, sure it's dummy proof but I'm no soccer mom. Thing was I did a ton of research and everyone failed to mention anything about the ipod other than it works. So visiting various websites you might find my reviews but I've formally emailed Kenwood to tell them how their R&D department has failed miserably and that I would rather buy a $600 F90bt than a $1K DNX6140 any damn day of the week and have it take 10min to boot up. I have half a mind to sell the 6140 at half price and buy on of the new Pioneer X series! I've learned my expensive lesson and will now and always be a Pioneer loyalist.

  6. So I've had this unit for awhile now and had it installed by a company that could perform the mod, they've installed a few other Navi before and have been just fine. Question is, Pioneer shows that the F-90 has buildings on the map, etc but mine doesn't do any of that. I read that some places aren't always like that but when I drove to D.C. I got nothing, West Virginia got nothing and back to Hampton, VA which has nothing. Am I missing something here? I'm driving from VA to TX during the holidays and I expect to see more of nothing but if the damn thing can't show buildings in the DC area where can it?

  7. Okay so I'll deal with the voice and yeah the glare thing is pretty picky but meh. I didn't install it so I'm not sure if the VSS was installed but then again how could I tell? The guy who installed it did the mod to have it do everything while in motion so I'm sure he would have if I knew how to get to it...

Think you could point me in the way of the memory mod? I'm browsing the mods forum now but nothing yet.

  8. So I've had the F90bt 2.0 in the 08 F150 for over a week and just can't get used to it. My 05 currently has a D3 in there and I thought it was just the comfortableness of a familiar system but the F90 hasn't impressed me. Maybe there's an answer to this but here are some concerns:

    1. Can't change the Nav voice to the female without that weird monotone voice that is there.

    2. Screen has too much glare and really hard to see during the day not to mention it smudges way more than the D3.

    3. Ipod doesn't get recognized sometimes. I'll have it plugged in then dash into the store and it doesn't see it after starting the truck up again.

    4. In the D3 you could tell the system the speeds at which to calculate the route based on what MPH you drive, not in the F series.

    5. Use of the main menu too much. Canceling routes used to be a couple of buttons but on the F series I have to go all the way back to the main menu.

    6. System is still insanely slow, I couldn't imagine what the original version was like.

I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them all right now. Is there anyway around this stuff? I figured the F series would be everything the other other ones had plus more...

  9. Ah, I see. We seem to be on about the same wavelength. I'm used to browsing my Truck forums where people just randomly say things like that but would mean exactly what I was thinking earlier, nice to see this forum has some logical thinkers

I do have to say that if we did have the traditional "internet" in vehicles could you just imagine the videos of people getting into accidents and news reports. "Guy crashes into fudge factory while Goggling Fudge".

  10. I agree with the post above along with the fact the internet just seems crazy in a vehicle. They TRY to lock down the DVD while driving capabilities but DVD while driving makes more sense than trying to browse the interent while driving especially without a keyboard. I could really care less about internet, any type of radio and to be honest once I install the new F90 I'll have a stronger opinion but it seems like it has enough already but they could always make the Navigation better such as real time upadtes for construction, etc...

  11. I have a Avic-D3 in my truck which still works great a yr plus so far and bought a new F90bt for our new truck that has yet to be installed but it only costs about $600 (amazon) now I go to Newegg.com and see the F900bt for $600. What gives? Is Pioneer coming out with something new? Heck you can't even find the F90bt's on Crutchfield or various places like that and even though Pioneer still has both models up they still advertise them as $1200/$1100 MSRP. Anybody have a clue? I thought the F-seris was supposed to be the latest and greatest....

*update, looks like Crutchfield just got the F90bt's and they have them marked as new and $1200*

  12. I have a quick question about the CNDV-80 MT upgrade process. I recently downloaded a copy from a torrent (not the file you're providing) and everything seem to go fine, until i put the disc in the unit. It said "invalid disc" or something like that. I am currently downloading your copy, and going to give that a try, but I was wondering if this is a known issue, or if the other copy was just bad. When i did an upgrade to CNDV-70, i had no problems, and yes, i did extract the files and turned it into an .iso . I have read some stuff about re-setting the unit, and then it will work fine, but I don't like to do that stuff unless I know for sure that it will solve the problem. I just don't want to end up wasting bandwidth and time if the copy i have is good, but i just needed to mod something. Any help would be great! Thanks!

Biggest thing is to make sure the disc verifies after the burn process is complete IMO.

  13. is it me or are the new disc keeping the map oriented north? I could have swore on the old disc it would adjust the map so you were always driving up on the map and then the little compass on the right pointed to where north was. I believe now the map and compass stay at the northern position. Is this right or am I just crazy?

  14. At first I had problems with the disc but now they worked so I figured I would share my experiences. I downloaded the disc from the piratebay torrent which should be the same as the FTP files. I originally had it on an external drive and was trying to burn from there via USB and that's where the verification errors starting happening such as bad sectors on the east disc. I figured I would try copying the files from the external back to the main drive and burn the west disc via PowerISO. I get the burn setting at MAX using a Verbatim DL + and selecting the verify after burn. The west disc worked perfect so I gave the east a shot and that one worked too. Started the truck up put the new east disc in and the D3 did it's think perfectly. Weird and it probably shouldn't be that way but it worked.

  15. Guys,

If any of you can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. I have an AVIC-D3.

I downloaded the East disk (downloading the West also currently), and burned it. No problems, and everything went fine.

I slipped it into the head unit, and it began the update, which took maybe a minute. However, now it continues to tell me to "Insert appropriate disk" and will do nothing else. If I take it out, and put it back in, it does the "Checking disk" deal, and then immediately gives me the same message about the "inapproriate disk".

    Help?!?!

    Thanks,

    Bryan

it was said before on here but it did ring true. Make sure you do a verification after it completes the burn process. I tried both PowerISO and Nero 7 with Verbatim DL and when it went to verify it had bad sectors on both programs using two different disc. The torrent ones didn't work for me and I'm not going to try them in my D3 for the reason above.

  16. What is the best way to fine tune an audio system with the D3? Pioneer has an eq out on crutchfield but it looks more manual than anything. i want something like what alpine has where you can install some software on you computer and attach a microphone to the unit and it will automatically adjust you eq. I know the built in eq is pretty extensive so do we even need an additional eq?

  17. i tried burning the iso torrents that were created on here and posted on piratebay but the east disc keep getting sector errors when the verification process started. I used PowerISO and Nero 7 Ultra at the lowest possible settings. Sucks cause I'm deploying next tuesday and wanted a copy but I read on here if the verification process doesn't work don't even try it or you might be stuck with nothing. Oh well D3 can wait the 6 months till I get back. If anyone is still creating workable copies for a fair price help a soldier out will ya and send me a pm or post up and I'll be happy to paypal. Thanks.
