1.

Ill try messing with the service menu on mine tomorrow and see how the calibrate options work, from the descriptions so far it does not sounds very intuitive! but ill give it a shot.
My N1 is having the same issue, and pretty much ruins the unit for me, considering I can not use the address book at all, which I used allot.
I have preformed the mod that lets me watch TV and DVD while moving, with the newest software, by soldering the circut board so sending my unit to Pioneer might not even be a option?
Ill let you know how it goes.
thanks...

btw, if u have the n1, which it looks like you do, all i had to do was ground the parking brake wire. what type of soldering to the circuit board are you talking about?

    Tom
Nah, once you go to the newest version of software, which I wanted to because i was missing some roads around my house etc... just the parking brake does not work anymore, the software starts using the build it gyro to tell you are moving and cuts the video off, and even tells you your parking brake wire in not hooked up right.
So you have to solder some pins inside the unit on the N1, its a pain but it worked.
oh yeah you are right, i forgot about that. and i upgraded the software to, however, i bought a new car shortly after that that has navi already so i never really had to solve that issue since the n1 is just sitting in my closet now.

I'm going to try this, but I wish there were more ppl that have tried doing this.
i agree...

i have the unit out of my car now, but i still dont plan on sending it to pioneer.

i cant believe that nobody on here can confirm how to calibrate the screen with no problems.
Odds are pretty good, that the + - buttons the poster had problems with were a result of the flex cable going bad at close to the same time. remember this post is almost a year old. Best bet is try resetting the calibration in the service menu. It's the same thing pioneer techs are going to do.
where were the step by step instructions on how to do this? i found them once, but i was in the searching mood. also, the ones i did find were not complete. hopefully a better walkthrough has been made since then.

    thanks.

  5. this is just garbage. i was able to tolerate the screen being off, it was just a matter of pressing the buttons 1/2 or 1/4 of an inch to the left. no biggie. now, when i am trying to scroll through my recent destinations or address book, i cant scroll up for down. since the button is flush with the left side of the screen, the 1/4 or 1/2 in range to the left obviously isnt in an area where i can touch.

this unit is basically garbage for me right now...

aside from typing in my destinations, which is the reason i have an address book, all i can do is open it up and press return home.

    boooo!!!

  6.
I had the same problem but figured out how to fix it with a side effect - the +/- buttons on the unit do not work so the screen in slammed back against my dash when open - I got into the secret service menu on my N1:

    - hit eject & reset at the same time
    - release 'reset'
    - screen went in & came back out
    - screen said "press reset" or something to that effect
    - i used the joystick - up, up, down, down, [and then pushed in the joystick to 'enter']
    - goes into the service menu - select top option for touch screen
    - in touch screen menu, select 1st [top] item with * next to it
    - using your fingernail, trace the edges of the screen, and the X,Y values will change to reflect the tracing (I did this a few times to make sure it read my finger well)
    - hit the "BAND" button [acts as 'back']
    - select the second option down
    - select the cross on the screen each time it appears - it will do a column on the right, middle, left, then one final offset just right of the left column - then it should say 'ok' or something like that
    - I then selected a menu option (sorry I don't specifically remember the title) with 'Confirm calibration' or something like that in the title - apparently this saved the new settings
    - I then removed the faceplate to shut down the unit and put it back on - it went through a few startup sequences and then, after resetting some basics, the unit worked fine (I did it another time where I turned off the engine instread of removing the faceplate)

I tried this a few days ago and didn't do the confirm selection (nothing looked logical) and I was able to side-scroll through the main menu pages (3 of them) - when I was done i hit the 'reset' button, and that didn't help anything, but the system rebotted and behaved exactly as it did before (with the screen offset problem still there)

when I tried it this time, the +/- buttons on the fron immediately stopped working, and while I am able to scroll up and down in the system menu with the joystick, I cannot go to the other 2 menu pages! so this is the last thing to fix, and I have saved myself $200 - hopefully I can find a fix - otherwise.....I may be out $200!!

    I hope this helps
its good information, however, i will not be attempting this. i actually need those +/- buttons. if there isnt a fix for this i may upgrade within 6 months or so.

the only part that bugs me is when i scroll through my destinations. typing in addresses and numbers is not that bad, i can get through that.

    good info though.

i had my navi installed by a shop becuase my car was brand new and i didnt want to take a chance screwing anything up. so in order for me to have this fixed, i would need to pay 220 to get it removed, i guess 200 for repairs, not including shipping, and 220 to get it installed again. for almost 1k, this isnt worth it.

plus, i am thinking about getting a new car, so if i decide not to get a new car, i think i will upgrade.
  7.

The touchscreen can be recalibrated if you go into the service menu. Too bad I found that out after I sent my d1 out. 5 weeks and I still haven't gotten it back yet.
How do you get into the service menu? I have an N1

P.S. Thanks for the quick reply... and this forum rocks!
yes, i am having this issue, i also have the n1 and i would like to know how to get into the calibration screen...

someone said above that they have a service menu with their d1. i would tend to think that d1 and n1 options are a bit different. i have browsed all over the n1 options and i havent seen this calibration screen, so im hoping i overlooked a menu...

also, i will deff not pay 200 for sending it in and getting repaired...waste of money i think...
  8.
I just started having this problem a couple weeks ago.
When I go to touch a button on the touch screen, I have to hit it about 1/2 inch to the left of the button. I am not sure this is happening on all screens.
I notice it most when I am using the input address screen, but that might just be because the buttons are smaller.
I am a Avic-N1 also so maybe they go bad or something?
yup n1 here as well and this is happening to me. i thought adding the n3 firmware would fix it, but i think its something in the screen. im not taking this thing out to get repaired and then putting it back in...i guess im gonna have to leave it like this until i plan on upgrading.

see, i got mine installed at a shop since i wasnt about to take my dash apart and scratching my brand new interior...if this was on my older car i would have no problem ripping the unit out and taking it or sending it to get fixed...but im not taking any chances...
  9. yeah my first concern when i took this to get installed was the placement of the antenna, but the installer told me it will have no problem being mounted inside my dash. i forgot to mention that i have had the unit for 2 years now and i have never had any problems with reception. the only time i can remember it putting me next to a road instead of on the road was when i was in a forest preserve.... and i was surrounded by trees. even if it was mounted on my roof at the area i was at it would still have not done me any good.

throw it in the dash and call it a night...
  10.
If you check out Pioneers site, it says that the 60 software will not change XM or Ipod display, not sure where you heard it would. As for knowing if you have the N3 software, it completely changes the appearance of the navigation menu so it should be fairly obvious

I have a AVIC-N1 that was recently modded to a N3, how can I tell if it's actually a N3 now and if the software I'm running is the latest? Also I have the iPod adapter that give little to no information on the screen even though my unit is moded to a N3. What gives there? Thanks

many have the same question as you.

i am in the same boat, i am not happy wiht the n1 to n3 ipod interface. it looks like everything changes to the n3 interface besides the ipod control.

    Tom

yeah, i didnt read any info on their site. also, i didnt do the upgrade thinking it would change the ipod display, i was just curious after i did the upgrade that since everythig else changed, so would the ipod interface. oh well no biggie, i should just research a bit better.

i just have bad luck i think. i have had the avic n1 for almost 2 years and i didnt find this forum until after a huge update, haha, its ironic i think. i wish i would have found this place sooner than i did.

  11.
Hmm this is very odd. I wonder if my downloaded disc 60 is missing some parts? Maybe I will try and burn again. I have checked and it seems my speed sensor is working. My ebrake ground is working, and I can watch movies (from the external video in's anyway) while driving.

I reflashed my whole system today, it then reinstalled the system software, but when I went to nav I had the same problem. Maps works. Home, recent, blah blah. Just no address search.
u can watch vids while driving?

how big is ur file? mine was 6.59 gb

  12. i am thinking about selling my n1, with the n3 update, and buying a z1. however, the money is whats killing me. i wish pioneer had some sort of trade in or upgrade program.

you guys with the z1. did you upgrade from an n1? is it worth it to have the bluetooth and ipod interface along with some other new features/better lookin g screens.

the one thing that i would miss is the fold in. i like that becuase it just hides the unit better. the z1 just sits there out in the open. however, in my car it would look kind of stock, so thats a plus.

  14.

after you download the torrent and unzip the contents, how big is the folder size?

my west disc was 6.59 gb. i burned it and it works fine.

    Tom
Same here. I had to run out an dby some DL disks, but then all went well. Kind of. Everything seems to work, except I can't do a address or POI search?? buttons are greyed out. With or without parking brake. Moving or stopped. Just greyed out. This is on my n2. Anyone else have this problem?
i have the n1 and i updated. my buttons are only grayed out when i am in motion over 5mph or something. once i slow down and/or stop, i can do poi and address search. basically i can do anything that i want until i move. i did the original bypass with grounding the parking brake wire, but as we all know the update screws that up.

since i upgraded to the n3 firmware, i am thinking about getting nav traffic since i have the buttons now.

  15.
Well the Ipod on the z1 pretty much sucks as well. You may get a cooler looking interface (I have never seen the gui on the N1) but it is SLLLLOOOOWWWW and painful to deal with if you have a lot of songs on it.

The only way that I have gotten around the painfully slow functionality of this device is to create a lot of playlists so I only have to scan through those.... But even with that, it is lacking...

    There is my 2 cents.

i will take the lag of the z1 over the crappy text display on the n1.

    there is

    ___________________________________________________

that much sapce to display text, but only

    ________

    is used.

the only good thing about the ipod adapter kit is that it recharges the ipod while you drive.

    i found this

not sure how much it will help.
  17. i think the iPod interface is really crappy with the n1.

i even upgraded the firmware with the new disks, but the only thing that doesnt change is the iPod interface. everything else looks like the n3.

i am very dissapointed with the n1 interface. i am almost tempted to buy a z1 just to get the newer looking iPod interface.

    any suggestions?

    Tom
  18.
Folks,

I am the proud owner of an N3. I have not done the bypass yet but am thinking about it. Question though...if I installed a monitor in the passenger side visor, will the N3 still show dvds through that monitor even if I am in motion or am I stuck doing the bypass?

    Thanks!

    Marc
yes, you will be able to view video on the second screen, in the visor, and the audio should work as well.
