  1. I'm not certain, but I think where you find that playlist may depend on your version of iTunes, and possibly even if it is on a mac or windows. Here is a screenshot of mine (it's under playlists in my library). Intuitively, it seems like you should see the tagged songs somewhere on the device, but as far as I know that's not the case.

Hopefully you find what you're looking for! Like I said this isn't something I use much, but I did get it to work. It seems like there are definitely some variables in the setup here, so you might have to poke around to find what you are looking for.

  2. I'll admit this isn't a feature I use often, but I just went down to the car to give it a try.

So obviously you have to be connected to USB, and your smartphone setup should have iphone/ipod set as the device on the NEX, and the connection method should be set to USB.

You also have a setting in the NEX settings screen that indicates which USB port the iTunes tags are sent to. That defaults to USB1, though you can change it to USB2 if that is where you plug your iPod in.

If you have it setup and connected you'll see the little tag icon toward the lower right of the screen on the NEX when a song is playing and tag info is retrieved. Tap the artist or song name, and you'll get a little option window that asks what you want to do with it - memo or tag - hit tag.

When you go back to iTunes and sync you should see the tagged playlist show up in your iTunes library - not the device. From there you can click View to find that song in the store.

For reference, I tried with an iPhone 5s on a 8000nex. My iTunes version is 11.3.1

  3. was it another dent and scratch or brand new? glad to hea you got it up and running!

I actually wondered after they said they were sending a replacement what I would get - it didn't show that there were any more s&d units available on their site. I'm pretty sure the replacement was a new unit. The original s&d had cruthfield tape sealing the box and some of the accessories inside. This one appeared to be completely factory packaging.

So, it was a bit of a delay and irritation but it all ended up working out very well, and Crutchfield was great about it.

Side note, the 8000nex is a pretty awesome unit. Definitely an upgrade from the z150bh I had before.

  4. On the 8000 NEX if you have an iphone paired with bluetooth (so the smartphone settings are setup as iphone/ipod over bluetooth) can you not plug in an iphone/ipod to USB and have it recognized? In general I'd like my iphone to be paired with bluetooth, but it would be nice to be able to have a passenger plug an iphone in if there was something on there we wanted to listen to. Seems more convenient for a temporary connection than pairing the passenger's phone with bluetooth.

I can plug another iphone in when mine is setup with Bluetooth, and the phone charges, but it doesn't light up the USB1 or USB2 input option on the 8000.

  5. I got my new 8000 nex up and running today and everything works except the steering wheel functionality from the maestro rr. In the system status menu the 8000 says be idatalink is an inrecognized firmware version. I went through the flash process on their web site for my car, selected options and the avic 8000 nex radio.

Anyone else see this when they setup this combo? Would it be worth taking the maestro out and flashing it again?

  6. The NEX units do not have a center channel.  AFAIK, they are only 2.1 systems regardless of having front/rear/sub left and right.. they are not 6 discrete channels.  When you have a surround sound source, the discreet channels of the source are down mixed to 2.1.

That said, you may be able to find a hardware converter... but I don't know of any offhand.

Thanks, makes sense. I might poke around and see if I can find a converter. Not a big deal to me honestly, more just curious if I was missing something. Thanks!

  7. Hello- I am in the process of installing an 8000nex with a idatalink maestro Rr in my 2011 gmc yukon that has the factory Bose 5.1 amp. Wiring up the harness I got the connections all done for the front and rear RCA outs, as well as the sub. What I don't see is where to put the center channel RCA on the 8000. I have the RCA for the center from the maestro, but don't see where it should go. Anyone else tackle this?

  8. I called them today actually and got an advisor (not the one I spoke to originally) but they were cool about it. They walked me through a couple of steps to troubleshoot, but nothing changed. They have another one shipping out Monday. I didn't think to ask on the phone if that was another scratch and dent, or if it is a new one that's a replacement. I didn't see anymore scratch and dents available on the site, so I guess we'll see!

Main thing I was concerned about was having done something to mess it up myself in the wiring, etc. I've done stereo installs before, but not quite as extensive.  I didn't really think I had - it's pretty much just following directions, but I was surprised for sure when I got that result.

  9. Sounds like its been dropped to me. Wavy screen and no response from the unit?

Did you hit the reset button before you tried to get into the setup screens?

It did have that look to it alright, that was the first thing I thought. It wasn't dropped on my watch, so it either had to be something in shipping or before it left. My experience with Crutchfield has always been top notch, so it seems odd they would let something out that wasn't functional. Still, things happen.

Yeah it was wavy/had lines throughout, and the right side looked like a bunch of colors bleeding together.

I hit the reset button prior to any setup screens. I didn't really have any option to get to any screens actually. The physical buttons lit up, but didn't respond to presses. I could touch the screen in different places and get a beep occasionally, but nothing happened.

  10. Hi all - I just got a 8000NEX to replace my Z150BH. I ordered it from Crutchfield, wanting to keep the manufacturer's warranty intact. They had a deal running for a scratch/dent for almost $200 off that I was a little intrigued by. I talked to an advisor there, and they said they couldn't say exactly why it was scratch and dent, but there would be nothing that impacted the screen or the usability of the unit. I went for it.

I spent some time last night getting the harness all setup with the Maestro RR. I pulled the z150bh and associated harness out earlier today and got the 8000 in. It fired up and showed me a pioneer splash screen, but there was some wavy distortion on the right side of the screen. After about 5 seconds it went to what looked like it should be the initial setup screen, but no buttons responded, the distortion was still there (though throughout most of the picture now) and there were a couple strange characters at the bottom left of the screen.

I called Crutchfield, they suggested resetting it via the little button on the bottom right of the face. I did, and it reset, but did the same thing.

They are sending a new unit out (ships Monday, should be there Thursday, so now I have a large hole in the dash.

Has anyone ever seen one of the NEX units do this? Does it sound like maybe there was just something wrong with the unit that they didn't catch, or maybe it was dropped in shipping? I'm trying to figure out if there was anything I could have done wrong that would cause this - I can't think of what - but just curious.

    Thanks!

  11. I was able to get this going - two things to note. One, the correct settings in Handbrake seem to be:

MP4 video, MPEG-4 FFMpreg video codec

    Framerate same as source

    Constant Framerate

    Average bit rate 2500kbps

    Audio AAC ffmpeg stereo

Picture 400x240, anamorphic none, don't maintain aspect ratio, modulus 16, auto cropping

Now the problem is, this displays fine on the front screen... but not the rear. It sounds like perhaps rear display of SD card video isn't possible in the z150bh? Can that be?

  12. I just had a z150bh installed about a week ago and after a couple trips to the installer everything is working as expected - navigation, sirius/xm, iPhone connectivity, rear display and backup camera. I picked up an SD card and loaded a bunch of music on it - works great. I'd like to load some videos on it as well for my son to watch on the rear screen, but try as I might I can't seem to get the videos in a format the 150 likes. I've followed instructions on a couple posts and looked at the specs for video in the pioneer manual, and I sure thought I had Handbrake setup where it needed to be, but any video i try off the SD card gets me the same message that the video can't be played, check the documentation for supported formats.

Has anyone had luck with Handbrake on Mac (or another application for that matter), and could you share the settings you used? Thanks!
