  1. Admirably? Really? No offense, but I call that settling... my D3 always did what it was supposed to do with no delayed response. Granted it did not have VR, but I never had to wait 7-8 minutes into driving before being able to use a 'feature' it came with. Also, that 'feature' is based on Microsoft's Sync... I wonder if folks that drive Fords have to wait that long once they crank their car to use it... I highly doubt it. I wonder if when they hang up their phones while using bluetooth if the whole system hangs and then you have to sometimes reboot the unit to get music back. I wonder if they have to unplug their iPod when the system simply decides it does not like it this go around. My F90BT lasted about 6 months before I just could not take it anymore... since I am being honest, the VR function was GREAT when it worked correctly, but that is not enough for me. I don't miss that unit at all and I've been left with a very sour taste in my mouth for Pioneer for releasing such a POS for us to beta test for them.

For those with the unit, I certainly root for all of you that they do release a 3.0 update. There are a lot of great people on this board that were a great help when I owned my unit; I think it is only fair that Pioneer fix the problems and continue to support this unit that people paid A LOT of money for... keep in mind, you could not always get them for $600.

    That's how I feel...

I agree with the two posters above - it sounds like you got a bum unit. I'm up and playing from my iPod in a little over 20 seconds, have ZERO problems with Bluetooth, and only had to do a hard reset once since September 2009 when my GPS lost signal with the sats.

7-8 minutes sounds like you either have a bum unit or screwed the firmware update up. Can you exchange your unit from the retailer you bought it from?

Not a bum unit man... I am a tech geek through and through and know hardware failure from software mishaps... the unit was not bad, the software is buggy. You will find a LOT of people on this board with ALL of the issues I mentioned, it is not just me and if it is the unit then there are a lot of defective units out there. If your unit works as you say, then I honestly think that is awesome for you, but I have a hard time believing you can use the VR functions to ask it to call someone or ask it to play a song, etc before the unit has been running for at minimum 5 minutes. My unit had 2.0 when I received it so nothing was done to it from my end to make it run the way it did... all comes down to shitty programing. Also, keep in mind as someone else posted, your unit is pretty new. Things you may be willing to live with and accept right now may be an absolute headache in the months to come. If you can accept the units shortcomings, OR if you feel it doesn't have any, then continue enjoying your unit and I wish you all the luck in the world with it. However, I was not willing to live with it when I know how it should work. There are those of us who love it, and those of us who do not... :D

  2. What's the big deal? Since firmware 2.0 the F-series performs admirably. For the money ($500-$600) it's a mega-bargain. That's how I feel anyway..

  3. Dude, I totally hear you. I had the F90BT and switched to that from the D3. WHAT A MISTAKE!!! Best thing going for it is the VR. I sold mine and went back factory. Cost me a pretty penny to do factory nav, sat, iPod & BT, but it works and it kicks the sh*t out of the F series and integrates so well! Pioneer has lost a lot of my respect by releasing that unit into the wild KNOWING it was not ready for prime time! Kenwood has a new unit coming out in the summer that has everything the F series does and more... I would wait a bit until that is released and check that out!

Thanks for the tip on the Kenwood. I may wait it out, since I won't be driving my truck as much in the summer.

    Here is the press release:

KENWOOD LAUNCHES 2009 IN-DASH DVD RECEIVERS WITH BUILT-IN GARMIN GPS NAVIGATION

LONG BEACH, CA (Car Entertainment) --

Kenwood USA Corporation has introduced the new generation of Kenwood DVD receivers that incorporate GPS navigation software from industry-leader Garmin.

For 2009, Kenwood is expanding its double-DIN DVD receiver lineup to include a new flagship model, the Kenwood eXcelon DNX9140 ($2,000 suggested retail price). This is a “best-in-class†DVD receiver with 6.95†high resolution WVGA touchscreen control, built-in advanced navigation technology by Garmin and the industry’s most comprehensive voice control system that provides the utmost in hands-free operation. Kenwood’s voice control feature allows the user to fully operate the navigation system and utilize features such as entering addresses, choosing menu options and selecting points of interest. The voice control system will also operate the audio and video systems, allowing the user to control any of the connected or built-in sources with common functions such as search, selection, and display information as well as manage audio control functions. Through the addition of built-in Bluetooth by Parrot, the DNX9140 has compatibility with the widest range of cell phones and smartphones including iPhone and BlackBerry. High performance audio is made possible through an on-board DSP processor, providing true 5.1 surround-sound and digital time alignment. The DNX9140 has an advanced USB platform that supports high-speed operation of iPod, iPhone, mass storage devices, and Kenwood’s Advanced Bus (KAB) that allows connection to satellite radio and HD Radio (optional iPod, HD Radio, M/H or satellite radio accessories are required). In addition, the DNX9140 will have the ability to connect to an M/H digital television tuner when it becomes available from Kenwood in 2010. Last but not least, the DNX9140 offers variable key illumination. This feature allows the user to match the look of the backlit buttons along the bottom of the screen to their interior lighting. The DNX9140 carries a two-year limited warranty and is only available from authorized Kenwood eXcelon retailers.

  5. The best thing the F series has going for it is the VR and hackability (which I don't think is a word LOL). Other than that, I think it is a failure on Pioneer's part. The concept is great and if everything was faster, less buggy, and the BT was better then it would be a winner. I think the new Kenwood coming out this summer is going to take everything the F series should have been and it is going to deliver as they are going to learn from Pioneer's mistakes and cash in on it. Just my .02

For the record, I owned the D3 before selling it and going with the F90BT.

  6. Also... are landmarks turned on in settings?

Default Pioneer settings screen does not have control for building display so add this to SYS,TXT:

    [debug]

    enable_buildings=1

I will post a settings file that has proper support for them later on...

I will look for that later. Thanks for all you do Boris! :)

  7. So I found some other iGo 8.0 TTS voices online, Susan and Dave. I have tried every way I know possible to add them to the F90, but no matter what folder I put the zip file in, no matter how I format it, whatever I do the 'Add TTS' button stays greyed out. I also tried the backdoor method of booting into WCE and adding them to APL2/iGo/Content/Voice and still a no go. Was hoping to find a solution for myself and others to the awful Samantha voice... any thoughts or words of advice?

    Thanks guys! 8)

  8. Sure. I'll try to do it this evening when I get home. As for visuals, although fuzzy, pictures of the setup and each hack are in the first post.

Oh, I am speaking of the bmps in the DATA.zip file. It helps me to find a file name in the ui file and compare it with what image I find in the DATA.zip.

  9. Hi Maverick,

Coudl you please post your data.zip. I am very interested in how your set-up looks like..

    Thanks in advance.

x2... I would love to get a look at the whole setup. I am still trying to teach myself the scripting language and it helps to have visuals to go along with it. Much appreciated! 8)

  10. I moved from a D3 to an F90BT. The F90 comes with the iPod cable and you can get the unit for pretty cheap. It is definitely a change... I really liked my D3, and held off for a couple of months before placing it on eBay because I was not sure about the F90. Firmware 2.0 came out and fixed a good many problems (not all) and I decided to keep it. I do not have any regrets. The voice control within itself makes me happy I switched. Yes, the XM unit will work with the F and it has the same wiring harness. The unit is hackable so you can replace the XM graphics... in fact, this has been a hot topic since XM changed the channel lineup. Hope this helps!

  11. Dude, I am not trying to be rude but you just posted this request on the 22nd and it was only your 3rd post. People on here are usually friendly & happy to help out but don't get irritated when someone does not jump on your request immediately or if they don't do it at all. I think I can speak for everyone when I say we all have lives outside of Avic411 Forums. Be patient and if someone decides they want to help you out or it is something they would like to do for themselves and share it, then great. If not, read up on some of the F Series Hack Forums and educate yourself on it... I have learned a great deal of information just by reading and have started doing some of my own stuff with my unit.

  12. I just completed an install of the F90BT and the SWI-PS in to an 07 Civic Si.

    My findings are as follows:

The SWI-PS DOES work with the F90BT, but does not work well. Others may have had a better experience, and I'm not sure if my problems are caused by the SWI-PS, the AVIC, or a combination of the two.

There is a rather noticeable delay between when a button is pressed and when the AVIC responds. Sometimes when pressing a button only once (volume), it isn't recognized at all. After holding the volume button down and releasing, the AVIC will continue the turn the volume up for a second or two before stopping.

It's better than nothing, but not perfect by any means.

  13. LOL Now Boris, how can you compare the iPhone to the Razr? Let's do apples to apples now... no pun intended! :D

Why, both don't do much, are thin and shiny, and sell like hotcakes. :)

I'd have to agree to disagree... I have owned many many phones from the Razr to HTC Smartphones and I have to say I will never own anything else but an iPhone. I had the 2G and now own the 3G. It does everything I want and need it to do with few exceptions... is it missing flash, yes, is it missing video, yes but does it absolutely rock for everything I actually NEED for it to do? Yes! It's hackable, always growing with multitudes of applications, hands down the best portable media player on the market and I think it just comes down to who you are and what you like. That being said, I fully respect your opinion on it. 8)
