  1. Hey everyone, I wanted to start a consolidated thread of all the common issues people are having with the Carplay update.  My issues so far:

1: Loud POP through speakers when powering off car or removing faceplate

2: Audio quality of voice calls is terrible compared to Bluetooth

3: Head unit will randomly freeze & restart itself

4: Spotify app is mostly useless, unable to search or navigate "back" to previous menus

5: Other 3rd party apps such as iHeartradio & Stitcher not showing up at all

I feel like I'm missing a couple other smaller ones, will list them once I remember.

    4000NEX & iPhone 5 on iOS 8.0.2

  2. SO glad others are experiencing this as well.  My AVH4000NEX did not exhibit this at all prior to the update.  Now whenever I power the car off or detach the faceplate, I get a loud POP, which is AWFUL for the speakers, mind you.  For the sake of troubleshooting, my speakers are run off an external power amp & RCA outs, not the internal power amp.  Unfortunately, Pioneer will probably have to release an update to fix this.

  3. So, this same thing happened on my old AVH-x8500bhs receiver, so I know it's not an issue with just my unit.  For whatever reason, on occasion if I already have google maps running on my iPhone before turning on the HU (4000NEX), the Bluetooth audio will connect as if I'm having a phone call with myself and start playing music & navigation in "phone audio" mode, which not only sounds terrible, but I have a call in progress on my HU screen & if I tap the "end call" button, nothing happens.  As far as I can see, the only way to get out of it is to turn off Bluetooth on the phone & break the connection entirely.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Can I do anything to fix it??

  4. So, I'm sure I'm not the only one that is incredibly annoyed by this.  There I am in my car, I've just spent a good 3-4 minutes getting AppRadio mode working with music & navigation.  Great!  Ready to go!  -turns engine on- NNOOOOOOOO I HAVE TO START ALL OVER BECAUSE THE POWER TO THE HU CUT OUT!!  This may not be the case will all vehicles, but I know it is for most.  I have a 2002 Subaru WRX.  If anyone has a solution to this that would be great!

  5. Yeah, AppRadio mode is almost useless to me too.  CarMedia Play is one of the least stable pieces of software I've ever used.  Try EC touch if you want a media player app that works in AppRadio mode.  The main thing for me is that none of the navigation apps work without issue.  Waze-black bar across the top of the screen, navigation itself is hit & miss.  NavFree-doesn't speak street names.  MotionX-asks you to pay $25 then still isn't very good.  Man, I can't wait for CarPlay to be released!!

  6. Hey guys, sorry my first post is going to be somewhat of a rant but I'm seriously SO fed up with this stupid head unit.  A little about me first, I used to install car stereos for a living & recently worked for Apple as a technician for around 4 years.  I recently had my trusty old Pioneer HU stolen, which was one of the first iPod compatible models.  It worked flawlessly with it's live-in-car iPod for about 7 years.  Well, I decided I wanted to finally get a double-DIN unit to put in my '02 WRX.  The 8500 really appealed to me because of the removable faceplate as a security feature, as well as the 4 volt preamp outs & a few other features.  One of the main features being app radio mode.

Well, I've had the stereo installed for about 5 days now and it's been nothing but a headache.  AppRadio mode -barely- works, and I, for the life of me, can not figure out how to listen to music with simultaneous navigation when AppRadio mode does magically work.  Here are the issues:

-When the App connection is set to "Others" & the iPhone (5) is plugged directly in via USB (not HDMI), it is recognized as an iPhone & interacts with the head unit flawlessly.  When the App connection is set to iPhone(Digital AV) and connected in the same manner, the head unit just says "Incompatible USB".  Why should this setting have any effect at all if only connecting via USB?!?

-AppRadio mode.  Even when it does miraculously work, seriously, HOW MANY WARNING PROMPTS DO WE NEED TO GO THROUGH??  The e-brake up, down, up nonsense is just maddening.  I ordered a bypass just to not have to deal with that, though I'm not sure I'll even still have this thing long enough to install it.

-Even when App connection is set to iPhone(DigitalAV), 9/10 times, all I get is the iPhone screen mirrored to the 8500.  Yes, this is with the Pioneer Appradio app launched.  Lately, it seems that I'm lucky to even get that, if not a blank black screen.

-App sound mixing.  As far as I can tell, all this REALLY does is play your music incredibly loud with no way to turn it down when in AppRadio mode.  Totally useless.

-When connected via HDMI/USB, the iPhone is not recognized as anything in USB1.  You'd think that it would at least come up as an iPhone there, right?  Nope....Just an input wasted to the useless Appradio.

-Very often, I get this message "CAUTION Now launching app.  If it isn't launched in a few seconds please park your vehicle and make sure your iPhone's screen."........ THIS ISN'T EVEN A SENTENCE!!!!  How rushed was this product?!?!?!

Please, if you guys have ANY troubleshooting ideas for me, I'm all ears.  I love the concept behind this thing but so far the execution is just a joke.  Really, If I can't have simultaneous music and navigation via Appradio, it's a deal breaker & it's getting returned.
