  1. Its so annoying that Apple and pioneer can't get together and make it so you can do everything on one connection.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but

Currently, you have to connect via the thunderbolt and HDMI adapter to get iPhone mirroring and stream video from your phone to the 8000nex. CBut wile your connected with the adapter, CarPlay doesn't work..

Has anyone come up with a way to do both either thru the adapter or direct connection thru thunderbolt??

My thunderbolt/hdmi adapter is intermittent thanks to the stress of moving the phone around while its connected.. must be a better way..

Hey. But the HDMI mirroring was not affected in any way by the new firmware update then?

  2. Hey guys, this was awesome news when I heard it. So...updating the firmware does not diminish functionality on our NEX units? Meaning true HDMI mirroring (Netflix, youtube) through the HDMI/Lightning adapter and software bypass still working? Because for me CarPlay does not top this two functions of my unit.

    Thanks!!!

  4. I figured this out the other day. Works perfectly fine that way. When car play comes out I'll figure out if I need to switch it or run a second usb. Def a better product than the 850 or 5000. You figure out a way to set a home destination for the nav? I'm still trying to work through the differences.

Yes. I did but let me get to my car later after work and I'll try to detail it because I don't remember the step by steps. If I remember correctly it's just a matter of saving your location with a TAB. But let me get back to you.

  5. Thanks for all the help. I installed it today. Mirroring is working fine. I just did the hdmi and the usb into port 1. My question is I need to plug directly in for pandora to show up on the screen. This means I need to unplug off of my av adapter and directly into the phone. I planed on getting a lightening extension cable and hiding the a adapter but then there is no way for me to access pandora. Any suggestions? Should I run a second usb from port 2?

i would like to add that you don't need to have your iphone connected with the AV adapter for PANDORA to work. You just need to go to smartphone setup and switch from iphone via Digital AV adapter to Wireless bluetooth connection. I don't plan on having my phone connected all the time so that's why I do the switch. I have not tried Pandora when connected with the Digital AV adapter.

  6. Ok thanks, I'm assuming for app radio I would need their other crap. I really didn't use app radio that much so I will prob not even order that other piece.

Hello. No problem. You don't need anything else. I have a 7000NEX and I connected the standard HDMI cable to the headunit. Then the USB extension cable included with the radio connect it to the USB 1 port and then on the other end remember the LIGHTNING HDMI av adapter. After this you are all set. No need to buy any adapters from Pioneer.

  7. Ok so, I'm done with this 850. I'm going to order the 6000. What else do I need for the mirroring for iphone 5? Do I need their adapter cdih202? I know i will need apples hdmi adapter.

For the mirroring? Just the Apple Lightning AV HDMI adapter and the standard HDMI cable of your choice. For this? a $1.99 HDMI eBay cable will suffice, trust me.

No need for Pioneer's expensive "exclusive" cables for mirroring.

  8. Thanks for the reply. From what I've read it automatically works when you plug in the phone via lightning cable. No need for configuration. Since Appradio works through HDMI and USB port 1 that should still be there ( Not that AppRaio is any good ).

By the way. Right now I have the RGB cable connected and the USB to PORT 1. Why? Because I had purchased it before for AppRadio mode for the 5000NEX. If I connect the USB extension cord to USB PORT 1 and use HDMI will I be able to use AppRadio mode like that? So then I would be able to just sell the RGB cable with the VGA adapter. $150.00 wasted there. Let me know, thanks in advance!

Update: I tried it with the RGB and no-go. Gonna try AppRadio mode with the HDMI and USB 1 port.

  10. I am just curious. I had an AVIC 5000NEX which I could never get mirroring to work even with $150.00 in cables (VGA+Lightning adapter). Almost sure that it was software related. Now I have the 7000NEX with HDMI and mirroring works perfect. I am a little bit afraid that when Pioneer rolls out the Car Play firmware update they might screw the mirroring up because I spoke to a Pioneer representative and they indicated that they don't officially support mirroring, just their "wonderful and intuitive" AppRadio mode.

  11. AVIC-5000NEX (No built in HDMI port)  glitches NOW most all the time using iPhone 5 - IOS 7.1.1, Apple to lightning VGA Adapter, Pioneer CD-IV202AV iPhone5 adapter RGB - CD-IU52 USB charging cable.

5000NEX smartphone settings needs to be set for Device iPhone - Connection VGA / RGB ?

It worked periodically and then does not work for viewing Netflix, Youtube. I think this started happening after i updating to Apple IOS 7.0, & above. Not 100 % sure, but I used to be able to surf Youtube as long as I was using the Safari browser not Bing

I know for sure that AppRadio Mode used on a  iPhone 5 has problems going in and out of Waze apps since Apples 7.0.

Pioneer is supposed to fix their AppRadio App once Apple corrects whatever it is they messed up designing 7.0 IOS. Maybe the CarPlay update will fix other things as well. 7.1  IOS was a big update for Apple trying to make Car Play become compatible enough for testing using our NEX units

Officially Netflix / iPhone 5 mirroring is not supported, but I know I had it working before.

Hey thanks for the reply. What did you end up doing? I ended up going to Best Buy and returning my unit. Got myself a 7000NEX with an HDMI input and mirroring works perfect. Why do you think this happens? How was it working before for you on the 5000NEX and now it is not? Just curious.

  12. SUHWEET

Yeah man. I really like it. The Avic 5000NEX was a pain and I could never get mirroring to work. I know that you spend more time than me on the forums so when you have a chance pay it forward to other fellow users as will I when I have a chance. Thanks for your help anyway man, appreciate it.

  13. Yes. That would be me. Do not get the avic 5000nex. I had numerous problems trying to get mirroring to work. It never did... Spent $150 it adapters... I was lucky enough that the manager at best buy refunded the money and was able to get a 7000nex from somewhere else. The 8000nex is the flagship with its capacitive touchscreen, but for me the 7000nex doed it. I'm extremely crazy happy with my mirroring hdmi capable 7 inch 7000nex. Pick your poison... Starting from the Avic 6000 nex and up... You get HDMI and mirroring is 100% guaranteed by us here at the forums ;)

Thanks for the reply. You know, I ended up ordering the 7000NEX that includes de 7 inche screen and HDMI input. No more 5000NEX VGA problems.

  15. As I replied to your message in my inbox. Mirror is only on 6000, 7000, 8000. If somebody has a work around. Please help this guy. If not I would return it and get anyone of those radios that can do it.

Hey. I ordered the 7000NEX, got a good deal on it. So no more VGA adapter problems. Thanks for everything.

  16. Yeah. Well Thanks everybody. Probably will find a way to sell it and get an 8000NEX. Did not do it at first because my local Best Buy does not carry anything over a 5000NEX and I am not radio-tech savy regarding installation.

  17. Ok well video on your phone is not your stated problem. Your thread is about issues with video apps like Netflix or You Tube. Follow these instructions to the letter and let me know what happens.

Thanks for the reply. The reason I mentioned the iPhone video app is because maybe these problems are related. I did what you mentioned. When I opened the NETFLIX and then Youtube video app All I see on the HU screen is the message " Please open the AppRadio app or compatible app and make sure your phone is unlocked ". If I open AppRadio and then open Netflix I can keep hearing the sound on my unit but no video and the messages appears. If I switch to the AppRadio app I see the video for a split second being reflected on my HU and then forces me into AppRadio.

  18. I will do this again. What I did last night was download a purchased movie from itunes because I had nothing on my iPhone video app. And I apologize more having multiple threads on the same topic. I was just going desperate. I will let you know. Thanks.

  19. I don't know, I'd call them back and ask about it.  I think the speed sensor is also important for the ASL to work.  I had that in my factory radio and really liked it.

I've had the same issue - they didn't install the VSS or the Illumination  wire.  I'm heading back on Saturday for them to connect both of those.  The manual turning down the display at night is a PITA.

Even with the installation issues I'm super happy with the unit though!

Yeah. I also noticed the ASL started working after I had the speed-pulse wire connected. Had it on my  :-( (rip) Lexus and I really missed it. Not all cars have this capability in the on board CPU, especially those before 2003 I think. In that case you would need to get a separate module for the speed-pulse which in my opinion it's not worth it at that point.  The Illumination wire? very important.

  20. Hello, Well I had mine disconnected because BestBuy did not feel it was necessary. It is necessary because it helps give accuracy to your position on your Navigation and it is more precise when reading the speedometer from your car's computer. It also helps maintain your position on the Navigation map when you are within tunnels and such. So if you get the chance, definitely connect it. Also don't forget the Illumination wire. This one dims your head unit's brightness when your turn on your headlights, if not you are going ot have to dim it manually every time you use the car at night. It is very bothersome.
