For my install, the extension cable just sticks out the side of the center console panel near the floor right next to the driver seat. You can't see it come out, and it doesn't stick out more than about an inch. I leave the Lightning cable plugged in to it, so there's just a white cable that comes up next to the driver's seat. The 5000 actually has 2 USB ports. I bought a 2nd extension (it only comes with one), and that one sticks out at the same place on the passenger side. That lets a passenger plug in as well, though I don't leave that lightning cable plugged in all the time; only when necessary.

On the phone, tap Settings > General > Restrictions. In there, you'll see a switch for CarPlay. Slide it to the left (grey, not green).
You'll use the iPod1 (or iPod2) source.

Thanks for the note about removing the buttons to restart the unit; I'll give that a try. I've gotten the switches and stuff I need, but haven't had a chance to put them in yet. I'll update with the results once I get off my lazy butt and do it.

Are you adjusting this setting on the iPhone, or on the AVIC?

Great, thanks for the advice. I never was any good at the electricity classes at work!

I currently have a 5000NEX, and want to add two in-line switches to it. Specifically, I want to be able to cut off the illumination line with a switch; sometimes when my car's lights are on, it's still too bright outside to be able to see the screen so I want to be able to cut the power on the illumination line. I know I can adjust the brightness of the screen when dimming is active, but it would be less of a hassle with a switch.
I also want to be able to cut the power to the unit for those "rare" times when CarPlay completely locks up both the phone and the NEX; I want to be able to restart the NEX without turning off the engine.
What are y'all's thoughts on this?
Also, what type of switches, etc, would I need? I took a look at the auto parts store, and they had switches with different amps and stuff.
Thanks for any help or insight!

Hi all,
Does anyone have a picture of the nex box that shows avic sync or a picture of the website saying AVICSync? I have a family friend that does class action and they actually find this case interesting but we need some form of proof that AVICSync was advertised and it seems all mention of it has been removed from the site and new boxes.
I still have the box for my AVIC-6000NEX, which shows a manufacture date of February 2014. There is no mention of "AVICSync" anywhere on the box.

I'm having the same issue with The Pulse; I just noticed it today.

I'm having the same problem here in Atlanta. When it's cold, the touchscreen is unresponsive. Drives me crazy when the screen gets stuck on the CarPlay nag screen and I can't do anything.

Make sure WIFI is turned off on your phone too. I know I confirmed recently that at least with version 1.08 CarPlay will not run if WIFI is turned on with the iPhone 6.
Mine works fine with WiFi on (iPhone 6). However, if the phone is still close enough to my router to stay connected, but not close enough to get a decent enough signal to transfer data well, I cannot listen to anything streaming (and it will appear to hang). Once I drive off and the phone drops the WiFi connection to my router, and switches to LTE, the music will start playing just fine.

When you plug the drive in, the NEX will look at the files to see if it can play them (i.e. it is looking for audio files). When it finds none, it reports back with "unplayable file" or something similar. At that point, set your audio to off as tekki instructed, then follow the firmware update instructions.
-
Also, what are you doing once you plug the USB stick in to the NEX? Are you following the firmware update instructions? I assume you are, but since you didn't mention it, I thought I'd ask.
-
Double-check the format of the USB stick, and make sure it is larger than 2 GB. I'd just go ahead and reformat it. You may want to try another USB stick, as well.
-
You need to unzip the folder on your computer, then copy only the resulting folder (which will be called AVIC5000NEX) to the USB stick. There should not be any other files on the USB stick.
Plug the USB stick into USB1 on the NEX, then follow the firmware update instructions which are located on the same site as the firmware download.

In addition to philfrompa's suggestion, make sure your lightning cable is plugged in to the USB1 port on your NEX. CarPlay doesn't work through USB2.

This has been driving me crazy! Thanks for the info

All calls are handled over BT.
Nope. I have BlueTooth turned off on my phone, and I can place and receive calls just fine over USB with CarPlay.

Are you using headphones with a minijack connection or newer Lightening connection headphones?
Minijack
Edited to add:
I contacted apple and the technician actually said "I got nothin'" lol
-
The #1 issue I have is when I go to listen to music through headphones after having used CarPlay, the volume on my phone is turned ALL the way up. Happens every time.

This is working for me. HOWEVER, Siri is spotty. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I don't think that piece of it is related to the microphone, though. Maybe she's mad at me like when you cuss at her?

I seem to have gotten the 5000, 6000, and 7000 firmware to start downloading. If it finishes successfully I'll post it to dropbox

I think the activity you're seeing on the AVIC is normal. When you turn the car's lights on, the illumination on the AVIC should dim irrespective of the engine run status.
As for the trailer lights, I don't see how installing the AVIC would affect that unless when running the wires the installer accidentally tugged on the trailer connector wires and as a result you have a periodic open in the circuit. It could also just be coincidental that you started having a problem with the wiring to the trailer at the same time. Since you're seeing it on 2 different trailers, and those trailers are working fine when connected to other vehicles, that's pointing to an issue with the wiring to the trailer connector on your truck. Is there maybe some corrosion in the wiring or connectors?

iOS 8 isn't yet supported, and the new phones only run that. Man Pioneer is just a mess these days. In reality though they should work fine.
Pioneer Apps on iOS aren't officially supported on iOS8.

Interesting that it doesn't appear to support the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus.
Carplay icons dumb question...but hey, those are my specialty

You can go into restrictions in your phone settings and turn off Podcasts. That also removes it from CarPlay. I haven't been able to figure out how to get rid of AudioBooks, though.
