  1. My Volkswagen got totaled out a month or so ago, and I had taken the faceplate off of my 4000 NEX before it was towed, because I didn't know whether or not they would total it at the time.  The car is long gone now, probably to a scrap yard, but I still have the faceplate.  Is it of any sort of use to anyone at this point?  Would it work for anyone else if I turned around and sold it, or are they matched to that specific unit and it's total junk at this point?

    Thanks

    Edit: added model

  2. I dont think I've ever had more regret in a purchase than in buying this head unit.

Couldn't agree more.  I was very excited for the promise of CarPlay, and in the end the only feature that I actually use that wasn't in my factory radio is the HD Radio.  I don't use CarPlay anymore in the least bit.  It was a colossal disappointment.  Never again, Pioneer.

  3. The web page on Alpine web site: http://alpine-usa.com/product/view/carplay-ilx-007

    I also found the ILX-007 owner's manual: http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/500/500ILX007.PDF

The faceplate is indeed removable (see p. 27)

I don't think this is what you're thinking of.  Based on the diagrams in the manual, it looks like the plastic trim around the unit is removable, not the actual screen itself.  Not much in the way of a theft deterrent.

  4. No HDMI input, only one USB input port on the back. Can't tell if the faceplate is removable or not, but at $800 MSRP (only $50 more than MSRP on the 4000NEX) I've already listed two big things that my Pioneer 4000NEX can do that this Alpine unit can't, and another that looks doubtful.

I had high hopes for the Alpine unit, especially given how underwhelmed I was with Pioneer's implementation (I've completely turned CarPlay off).  Unfortunately, it looks like I'll continue to be left wishing.

  5. You are welcome. Good luck with the reinstalling a new stereo! I'm actually very glad I got the 4000, if only for the removable faceplate.

I'll be replacing my 7000 with a 4000, if only for the peace of mind that comes with the removable faceplate.  I'm still debating on the U260 unit.

  6. Hey all, I had my 7000NEX installed on Thursday; then on Saturday my car was broken into and the stereo stolen.  They only stole the stereo, none of the plug-ins.  Now that I'm working with my insurance company on replacing things, I'm hesitant to get another 7000, since the faceplate isn't removable.  With the GPS unit still installed from my 7000, can I hook that up to a 4000 unit, and get the navigation features, or is the adapter different from one unit to the other?

    Thanks!
