  1. I want to thank you guys for my previous thread, CarPlay works but my radio is giving me a hard time. Whenever I'm making a call on Bluetooth or using CarPlay I get this high pitch whinning noise. I brought it into  the installer and they told me the CRUX harness has to go. I bought the crux harness for my previous single DIN Alpine and it worked great, but it's not working great for the AVIC 8000. The installer has a metra harness that says should take care of the problem, but he's charging me $159, in which I can purchase for $49 on amazon. The installer also suggested a "connects2" harness, which are made in the UK.

I've also been experiencing lag going in and out of apps and basic menu options. I called Pioneer and they had me reset the radio through 2 ways on the touch screen, but I couldn't reset it by hitting the button behind the screen because I didn't see a button through the whole. Some advice or help would be great thanks.

High pitched whining noise is usually attributed to a poor ground, I would check ground connections before you bother spending any more cash an a harness that will do the same thing as the one you're using.

  2. I'm having trouble with my setup. The system only recognizes my iPhone after a reset. Car Play and everything works great. But I once I turn the car off and on again it no longer recognizes the iPhone. I've tried a few different phones and get the same result. Anyone seen this?. I've replace the wiring just in case but it didn't fix anything.

    Thanks!

Check the firmware on your unit, I know that I had several issues with a new 8000 that shipped with version 1.03, once I updated to current release 1.08 many of the issues went away.

  3. OK I recall why I didn't or couldn't use the XM antenna in my 07, in the convertible the XM unit is located behind the drivers right arm in the area called the waterfall, in my standard C6 the XM is located in the B Pillar over the drivers left shoulder.

I originally wanted to mount the S-XM unit back there but the control cable was only 18" long and I wasn't able to find an extension adapter. After realizing what it would take to mount the unit in place of the factory unit I just decided it was easier to mount the new unit in a small space right behind the radio and mount the antenna above the air vent in the center console.

Aside from occasional drop outs like going under and overpass, it works, not 100% but the install is clean and it's not terrible.

  4. Just a hunch but given that the auto makers are not going to release product until late next year that takes advantage, I would expect Pioneer to come out with a new product next year that also takes advantage and "hopefully" will have a software release for the current NEX product that will incorporate.

  5. Even with recorded material, pinked just provides a good baseline for adjustment.  Recording engineers just can't seem to get the mix dialed in to my taste consistently :)

You actually just brought up a very interesting point, recording engineers today are mixing in a fantasy world, everything is compressed beyond belief, vocals are artificial and so highly auto-tuned because the industry keeps signing people that in reality have no vocal talent. Even with great singers they are still using the tools in the software pallet to fix things that don't need fixing, I blame Cher and Do you Believe for this, that was one of the first examples of auto-tuning that I can remember. BTW, the music itself is so over-compressed that to me it's not music anymore, but you have no choice but to listen to it.

Want to listen to something that will make your speakers work the way they were designed to, play a copy of Dire Straights Sultans of Swing, to me one of the best examples of perfect production, everything in the mix is dialed in, nothing rides higher than anything else, it's pure, if you can get it in FLAC even better since even an MP3 at 320kb has already lost 90% of the original.

The issue that I have with the pinking on the 8000 is it keeps the curve hidden in the DSP somewhere, it would be much nicer if it would save it to Custom1 or Custom 2 so that you can see it then adjust accordingly, in the end I'm totally happy with my new HU trust me but the issue I have is that Pioneer could do just a little bit better for their flagship unit. I sent a message to them regarding this, likely nothing will happen but it's nice to get them a message that it could be just a little better with only a little minor tweak.

In closing and to illustrate my point, 2 screen caps of the waveform for 2 songs, Dire Straights Sultans which I reference above and Neon Trees Sleeping with a Friend, the latter shows what modern music has turned into, a compressed, squashed, lack of headroom and presence piece of garbage influenced highly by a music industry that has gotten in the habit of delivering garbage to fans who pay good money without ever realizing what they could be listening to. I love turning kids onto older music on CD and even vinyl that has quality sound and not the digital drek that is being hatched up today.

  6. Thinking out loud here... Lots of glass in that Vette. Perhaps the Pioneer is picking up reflections, leading it to think that your speakers are farther away than they are? It may have to set up the speakers as if they were 100" away in order to get everything as in phase as possible. More importantly, how does the processed sound compared to unprocessed? I'm sure that your commercial sound applications take place in well-controlled environments compared to a car. Would covering your windows with absorptive material during the TA procedure help at all, or is "tricking" the Pioneer a useless exercise since you're testing an artificial environment that won't resemble your actual listening environment (no covered windows)?

In all honesty the processed sound is thin, it's missing all the bottom end which the manual basically states, the setup will play with filters (pg 172). In the end it may deliver a sound that some might find awesome in fact I bet that installers could use this with their customers and say don't touch it ever, it's setup just for your car, but once you play a piece of music that you're intimate with (my personal testing favorite is Tower of Power What is Hip) and you'll find the deficiencies in their setup.

As for controlled situations in commercial sound, nothing farther from the truth, we never get to pink a system with a couple of thousand people between the mixing desk and the cluster, it's more to get a rough idea and a starting point, you can sense how much bottom end is fading over distance and space and if the highs are in the shrill zone, adjustments are usually made on the fly but having a flat system to start with makes it so much easier.

  7. Sadly a little late since you dash is all sealed up but any way to verify if they spliced into the harness correctly? I know that with my install, since I did it myself, I spliced together rear camera wiring with the main harness as the aftermarket harness has all the connections on there that I needed, no need to run wires to the e-Brake or splice power in at the rear tail lamp, it was all there for me in the dash. Wondering if in your case something is in the wrong place. Also what settings are you using on the head unit for your install, battery, ground etc.

  8. I think that the aftermarket really needs to find a way to standardize OEM antennas or make adapters that won't have too much cable loss that you can run just like they do with the FM terrestrial radio antennas. I have an 07 Vette and purchased the SVX tuner as well and didn't like that I had to find a new location for an antenna and even run an antenna period considering there was one there waiting for me. The factory antenna didn't work for me but it would have been awesome considering on the vette the XM antenna is in the mirrors and I had to mount mine in the dash under where the old center speaker was located before I removed it. Sadly I get drop outs from something as simple as going under and overpass at 70 mph which really sucks but since there is no metal on the vehicle to mount to I didn't have many options.

  9. I find this funny because after setting up my 8000 and running the system through a pink noise and time alignment I realized just how screwed up this unit is compared to some of my pro processors like my DBX Driverack 260 that I use in commercial sound.

What I find odd is the manual states that after pinking the system the EQ will return to Flat (which it did not it stayed on Powerful), it's also odd that the unit doesn't display the new curve into either Custom 1 or Custom 2 for you to see what the environment looks like post processing.

The funniest thing however were the calibrations that were determined during the ping tests to do distance alignments, in my case (see image below) it calculated that my front speakers were 100+ inches and rears were 90+ inches from the microphone which was placed hanging down from the latch that holds my removable top in place, here's the kicker, this was in a Vette where the actual distance was no more than 30 inches in any direction! I guess I could divide the numbers by 3 and enter them manually but what's the point. So either Pioneer is using mm's or cm's and attaching a label of inch to the results or their algorithms are really screwed up!

Bottom line I wanted to see how this would work, glad I did but in the end and quite honestly, I'll forgo the processing which amounts to nothing more than playing with crossover points and removing bottom end and do an alignment with the best tools I have at my disposal, my ears! TA and Pinking is a must for my commercial systems but at this level, it's more of a joke than anything. Nice try Pioneer.

  10. OK so I finally had success and in part thanks to grizz, I connected the Samsung MHL adapter with HDMI and USB and the phone and 8000 magically seemed to pair up after the pop-up asking me what connection I wanted to use, I choose HDMI and voila I'm up and running. I don't have a rooted phone so I can't experiment with the true controls that seem to be so popular, that's next BTW, but I do have the Pandora option on the menu, I can make and receive calls, S-XM works perfectly, I've even let my daughter enjoy Maleficent while driving down I-10 at 85 MPH!

I will experiment with rooting this week as I'd really like to see this thing in it's glory! The only annoyance I have now is the Nav system but if I can make it take voice commands which for some reason I believe the system will, I will be extremely happy. The NAV isn't super friendly but it isn't as bad as some others I've had, this one I have to give credit to Toyota as the nav in my Camry is actually easier to use but this radio is in my Vette so the more attention I can pay to the car and the road is appreciated.

Thanks for the responses guys I am 1 step closer to enjoying this thing.

Oh there was one more issue which may have caused some problems, my "NEW" unit shipped with version 1.03 firmware, the latest on the Pioneer site is 1.08, I upgraded and then things took off, that might have had a bit to do with this.

  11. I'm really getting the impression that this unit is designed to work with an Apple product and Android is an afterthought. After finally getting all the cables ordered and everything installed, I've discovered that in no way does my unit work the way all the video's online at the Pioneer site show, probably because they only demo the units with Apple products!

I have tried for 2 days in vain going back and forth between cabled and bluetooth and something as simple as the Pandora App on my phone doesn't come up with the radio interface much less the option that says Pandora in the menu like they show online in their ad's.

If anyone is working an 8000 or similar with Andriod, particularly Samsung Galaxy Note 3, I would love to hear your experiences because as of now I'm limited to iPod, HD Radio and Sirius which will expire in 87 days and I have no plans to renew.

    Thanks in advance,

  12. I have a kitchen counter full of gear waiting to be installed into my vehicle and I keep putting it off because I keep finding things online that guide me to ordering another cable or another adapter and while I'm seeing light at the end of the tunnel the last and final hurdle just came up.

When I ordered my 8000 I also ordered a Pioneer CD-AH200 kit which seems to have provided all the cables one would need to connect an iPod on USB 1 and a Galaxy Note on USB 2 and be able to enjoy all the coolness that is the 8000.

I was online earlier and found a video by M Sylvester on YouTube talking about the MHL adapter and how you need the official Samsung adapter and that most others don't work.

Since my unit has no way of being tested until I get the car apart and I'm delaying that until I'm 100% ready for everything to work since it's my only vehicle can anyone shed light on the MHL adapters and if you need the "official" Samsung adapter or is the one in the Pioneer kit actually going to work .. to complicate things even more on the Pioneer web page for Android compatibility they don't list their own adapters but only the Samsung one!

Do I need to order yet another gadget branded by the phone manufacturer or is the one sold with the Pioneer kit going to actually work?

    Thanks in advance! .
