  1. Yes.  Bypass is still working with the 1.11 firmware update ... at least on my AVIC 8000NEX.  That isn't to say that I'm completely through going through everything else.  As far as I can tell so far: (1) Most things, including boot up, seem faster; (2) I am getting message to activate AVICSYNC (i.e., "Connect a smartphone to take advantage of ...", whereas my iPhone is already connected), which I have not used to date; (3) I've had one crash, in which nothing at all came onscreen - Turning off the ignition and turning it back on, everything seemed to work.  It'll be a few days (perhaps weeks regarding AVICSYNC) before I have a complete verdict on whether the update is worth it or not.  Note that previously, I was having some crashes on my iPhone, where the speaker sound seemed corrupted for ringtones, which seemed to coincide with loss of ability to connect such that iPhone music would play on the AVIC 8000; however, that seems to have abated with the update.  At this time, I am attributing the iPhone crashes with the inability of the AVIC/Carplay software to recognize and index more than a couple thousand iTunes songs.  I'll provide mmore when I know more....

  2. Updated to firmware 1.11 this morning on my NEX8000, including updating the Bluetooth firmware to HW01-SW03.41.11.  Everything went without a hitch.  I did have the parking brake engaged throughout the update, as when I installed the 8000, I installed it exactly as prescribed in the instructions.  Additionally, the instructions said to switch the Audio source to "Off".  I haven't had much time to check things out since the updates, but the 8000 does seem a bit more responsive.  Also, I notice a little blue car icon with curved arrows in the lower right corner, which I had not noticed before (perhaps it was there before, but I just had not noticed) - pressing the icon did little more than turn it to blue, and I didn't notice anything else happening.  Perhaps somebody can enlighten me as to what it is.

Before the update, and following update of the iPhone to iOS 9.1/9.2, I began having problems with the sound, both on the iPhone and CarPlay.  Sometimes, I could not get any music to play, and my ringtones would go haywire - basically, when the phone rang, it produced a loud, annoying, and continuous "BRAAAAAAAAAKK" sound.  The only thing that I could do was turn the phone off and then back on.  Everything would then be fine - until the next time.  I have the feeling that this malady is related to CarPlay, but don't know.  Hopefully updating to iOS 9.2 and the AVIC NEX 8000 firmware will fix the problem. Haven't seen it recur yet but as I noted, I haven't had much time to test things out.  By the way, updating the Bluetooth firmware follows updating the 8000 firmware - same group of files, and I did not remove the USB stick until I had done both updates.  Just follow the instructions provided with the update.  Secondly, you'll need to have the "AVI C5000NEX" FOLDER on the root drive of the USB thumb drive - not just the files, but the intact folder.  Finally, you may find as I did, that the Bluetooth update actually takes longer than the AVIC 8000 firmware update.

  3. I'm not going to jump to conclusions from the 9 to 5 Mac article.  It could be that we'll just need a firmware update from Pioneer.  However, given that I've not seen even any inkling of a firmware update since I bought the unit last October (for which I installed 1.08 as soon as I installed the unit), and nobody seems to have come forth with a map update (even though it was implied that we would get a free update someday), I'm not optimistic that the wireless Carplay will come for the 8000NEX.  Heck, with the 8100NEX out, I'm not feeling very confident that there will ever be another firmware update for the 8000.  Likely, the 8100NEX will support wireless CarPlay, and that will truly irritate me if they don't extend that capability to the 8000.  The bluetooth is already there, so why would it be such a problem?  I don't like being a "forgotten customer" and I have a very long brand memory.

  4. I too receive this message about the "parking brake not properly engaged" when I am driving.

the parking brake wire is connected directly to the neg (-)/Black powerlead that goes into the device -  I soldered it myself before I gave the installer my unit to install.

I did follow the instructions to do the 'software bypass' too - no difference, I get the same message after I receive the "set on" confirmation.

I can still do all the functions, while driving, but this message pops up at least once a day!. Very frustrating.

But my biggest issue is, I cannot enable the "Apps" feature with Appradio(Pioneer), AppradioUnleased or AppradioUnleased Reloaded. According to the developer (ARU & ARUR) - the parking brake wire bypass ONLY work on EU models not on USA models.

Can anyone that get this message please confirm that you have the US version of the 8000NEX, please?

Ideas? Help? DO I need a double-bypass thingy connected to the US 8000NEX to make the bypass work fully?

    Thanks

I have the AVIC 8000NEX, and I do have the US version (noting also that I have updated with the 1.08 firmware).  One thing to note on my install, which did work without any messages (noting also that I have updated with the 1.08 firmware):  On the 2002 Toyota Tundra, the signal for the parking brake is hot (12V) when the parking brake is not engaged (this is consistent with the installation manual).  When the parking brake engages, the signal grounds, and then also turns on the dash "brake engaged" light.   This is quite different than simply taking the signal wire to ground.  Perhaps this is the trick to not getting the message.  I don't know.  However, I do know that all works perfectly for me, with no messages on the AVIC 8000NEX installed in my 2002 Tundra.  I cannot comment on the AppRadio part of the question - I use Apple CarPlay and an iPhone 6 (I also connect an iPhone 5C to this unit with the same results).

  5. As I stated in an earlier post, I soldered the green wire to the parking brake signal (the wire going to the parking brake switch, which grounds when the parking brake is engaged, turning on the parking brake engaged lamp).  I then engaged the parking brake, and performed the bypass procedure.  This is with an AVIC 8000NEX installed in a 2002 Tundra.  All is working well, and I have yet to have ANY sort of a message saying that something was improperly wired.  Everything is working perfectly.  I'm not sure if wiring it per instructions, engaging the parking brake, and THEN doing the bypass - in that order -- had something to do with it, but it is all working fine for me.

  6. As an update, today I installed the Pioneer CD-SR100 and the CD-PAC WRI-P for my AVIC 8000NEX, and all still seems to be working fine.  I had already installed the 1.08 firmware, along with the "bypass" mentioned in earlier posts (Note: The bypass still works after the update, with no problem at all - no reinstall of the patch, no rework).  Aside from the usual issues of routing the wiring, all of this went flawlessly.  Some, but not all, of the settings that I had set earlier on the AVIC 8000NEX remained as they were, and I did not have to reset a bunch of stuff in the menus (bluetooth for the iPhones remains as it was when you disconnected the battery, I did not have to reinstall the "bypass".  That said, I did have to reset the "warnings" for voice notification of speeding, etc.)

Also, there isn't all that much functionality of the remote that I can see; howeverand this is significant to me -  it does provide some of the functionality that I wanted to achieve without reaching over to the screen (volume control, source switching, etc.).  So, considering the price of this upgrade (less than $70 with shipping from (Crutchfield, with whom I am totally good), I'm OK with the units.  It remains to be seen as to whether I can accept something tacked onto my steering wheel.  We'll see.

So, I'm OK with the 1.08 update and with the remote that I've installed.  The reader should note that I'm using an iPhone 6 and an iPhone 5c.  A few things to note: 91) You can only fully use Carplay when you're plugged in (to USB1 or HDMI); (2) most of the time, you can get what you want through Bluetooth and the 8000NEX maps;  and SIRI is only somewhat functional - When you press the SIRI button, be prepared to say the whole command.  The last statement that I've made is likely NOT intuitive to the user.  For instance, pressing the SIRI button and waiting for the test prompt beep (as one would expect") simply does not work.  So, when parsing a SIRI command, the user must say the entire command - "SIRI, PLAY SOME LED ZEPPELIN", immediately after pressing the button.  This method appears to work, whereas waiting for the command "beep" and waiting to speak to a response will get the user nowhere.   Perhaps  the updates to the firmware will correct these issues.

No flaming please; I'm just trying to make the users more aware.

  7. 8. My guess would be a faulty GPS antenna.  I'd think that it would present a message in that case, though.  A couple of things to try before you go that route: (1) Disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect - that resets most of the settings; (2)  If that doesn't do it, you might try reinstalling the OS (1.08).

  9. You can turn off auto connect for WiFi on your phone. I do this for security reasons, as I want to know what WiFi I am connected to.

I agree with TheEdge regarding auto connect to Wifi for security reasons.  That said, having the Wifi turned on hasn't caused any problem for me regarding CarPlay.  Properly connected, either through USB1 or through the HDMI/Apple Digital adaptor (using USB2) seems to work seamlessly for me.  I hop in my truck, connect the iPhone (while still on WiFi), back out of my driveway, and it eventually switches to LTE as I drive away and lose the WiFi signal.  I've not had any issues.  One must note the differences in the connection, though.  The 8000 seems to identify connections to USB1 (and with Bluetooth, if not connected by wire) very well and selects it; however, one must manually select the HDMI connection (in my experience).  I don't find much reason to use the HDMI connection, unless you want to do video from the iPhone, in which case, you'll need to perform the "bypass" shown in other parts of this forum.  While it is cool to be able to view video on the head unit, I don't recommend it for safety considerations (i.e., when the vehicle is in motion).

  10. Make sure WIFI is turned off on your phone too. I know I confirmed recently that at least with version 1.08 CarPlay will not run if WIFI is turned on with the iPhone 6.

I've been using Carplay with an iPhone 6, iOS 8.1, Pioneer firmware 1.08, and I have WiFi turned on all of the time.  It has not affected Carplay in the least.  Mine works perfectly.

  11. I have an AVIC 8000NEX, and have the 1.08 firmware installed.  I performed the bypass process, and all works flawlessly.  I do have the parking brake wire properly wired to the foot pedal parking brake.  I installed it that way from the start, following the directions.  Trying to bypass things by taking the wire directly to ground resulted in a message stating that the parking brake wire appeared to be improperly installed.  So, I wired it correctly, which brings me to the following observation.  I should note that I have also correctly wired the VSS to the unit.  So, it doesn't appear that one has to have the parking brake wire directly wired directly to ground (although that may be a more simple installation for most people).  However, I should note that when I went through the bypass operations, step by step, I did have the parking brake engaged.  I haven't received any messages of improper installation, and if I wanted to do so, I can actually view video directly from an iPhone 6 through the HDMI connection (using the Apple video adapter) even when driving.  I do NOT intend to watch any videos while driving, though.  That just isn't safe.  But if the kid decided that he wanted to watch a movie on a long drive, it would be possible.  This was more of a technical question for me.  So, I can confirm that the bypass does work with the 8000 and firmware 1.08.  No problems.
