  1. I got my Z2 yesterday and played with it for a few hours ( I really miss the extra options on my old D3 like changing colors, sharper display etc)

After playing with the Z2 I took the HD out and swapped with a HD with the Z3 upgrade in it.

I still see the maps are out of date, my cousins house was made on 2005 and now shows up with the Z3 upgrade, with the Z2 HD didn't show up, but mine still doesn't show up with the Z3 upgrade, and this condos have been made since 2006. My cousin kenwood HU haves my address and it have been on the market almost 6 months.

The map looks the same for what I can see, I haven't see any 3D structures like the one on the pioneer website . The only difference is some new addresses. the Z3 upgrade didn't change anything on the interface.

Z3 upgrade is basically some updates maps and maybe a 3D buildings (wich I guess if you drive the whole USA you can count them) I haven't seen one yet.

I was very close to buy the new Z3 , thank god I only downloaded the image of the Z3.

  2. I have the bypass done and works perfeclty, but I have a rear view camera connected to the unit without the reverse cable attached to my reverse lights, only works on MAP display wich is ok for me.

The weird thing is that when I turn on the radio instead of The pioneer logo or booting display I only get the REAR VIEW camera display, the songs starts playing and I have to push menu or map button to get out of the camera display, it does this everytime I turn the car on.

Is my Z2 damage or there is a option for doing this, everything else works perfectly.

  3. why don't you try reading through the 11 pages.

dude, i have been following this since it started. i was just asking if he could provide a link. if you dont have anything positive to say, dont bother

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT  nah just kidding

  4. I have a question for those with good speakers and amps.

I recently upgraded my Mazda CX-7 with Infinity speakers on the doors and (1) 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect subwoofer. 40wRMS x 4 amp for the speakers and 380wRMS x 1 amp for the subwoofer.

I always use stagging on LIVING ROOM I believe is the second setting from RIGHT to LEFT on the Stagging menu, I forgot if it's LIVING ROOM (I currently have the avic-d3 unistalled because I'm testing another HU.

The EQ setting are set +2 on the LOW, -2 on the MID and +6 on the HIGH.

The sound is terrible and thats the best sound I can get, before with the old speakers paper cone speakers it sounded much better.

I turn off the STAGGING option and the speakers sound like crap, no highs at all ,plus volume cuts by half, even with the EQ HIGH setting at FULL.

I REPLACED THE AVIC-D3 with an OLD Sony Head Unit the cheapest on the market , and put the treble at maximum and bass flat, and the sound is 10 times better.

    What's up with that?

I ordered the Avic Z2 this week, I'm hopping to get better results.

    Have anyone experience this before?

  5. I bought a z1 from one of those large ebay stores (can't remember which, but they had a feedback rating of 10K) over a year ago. It was a refurb and the funny thing was that it still had the first owners finger prints all over the screen. It also had that persons music on the drive and their home address in the navigation and the local circuit city (which was in Pennsylvania) saved in the address book. My guess was that it was a circuity city return...evidently the first owner (who was into hardcore rap) didn't like his unit. CC took it back, sent it to Pioneer and they did little more than confirm it worked and sold it out the back door to the ebay store.

A year later and the unit works great...no issues.

Sometimes they send this units to third companies to refurbish them. Look always for people selling SEALED BY PIONEER, they should have a brown tape with pioneer on it, I just received this week 2 refurbished by Pioneer amplifiers and they came in a brown box with the pioneer logo on the side and the pioneer tape to seal the box, and I bought this on ebay from 2 different sellers. I'm waiting on my Avic Z2 refurbished also. by the way the amps doesn't have any marks of previous intallations and they look spanking new

  6. You guys have to remenber that if you buy a radio like the Z2 and is nothing wrong with it, you decide to returned to the store because you need money at the moment or couldn't really buy it because you max your credit card etc. Most of the people says the unit is damage, is freezing etc etc so they can have their money back faster. most of this unit goes to Pioneer to be checked and QC once again, they don't find anything wrong with it after testing it, they can't sell it as new by law so they label them refurbished. I work on a company that does the same steps when we receive "damage items" and we don't only test them by just powering and looking at it. We open the product and test the internal boards with special fixtures that tells us wich resistor, diode, chip etc. is damage, and if we find something wrong we change the complete PCB board and do hard test to it. This goes to radios too.

Just make sure to buy REFURBISHED ITEMS refurbished by the Original Company and not other companies. Companies like Pioneer pays $10,000 for a fixture that test let's say amplifier boards, and they pay much more for more complex PCB boards. other companies doesn't have that equipment they just check the items manually .

  7. It's not a Pioneer issue but more of an Apple issue. They've made the new ipod classic somewhat proprietary by encoding them to only broadcast video over their cables or one of there authorized manufactures. They say it can be fixed with a firmware hack but I've heard some bad things, as well as some good things though.

That's very stupid of them, most of the people buy ipods because they have lots of aftermarket add-ons for them and not because it's a super great mp3 player or video player. I hate how the ipod sync songs and videos , it sucks not having the ability to transfer songs from the ipod to the pc or even delete them directly from the ipod. BUT I bought mine because it was compatible with my D3 music only and compatible with my home theater. without that MAIN feature the ipod would not sell to much.

  8. If I can buy the apple cable cheap and we can find a good diagram of the pin outs, I will do it. I sold my 60GB ipod video and kept the Ipod TOUCH and it would be nice to see the videos on the D3.

After playing with the Ipod Touch the ipod video is something of the past for me. Mine it's only 8GB but I have 3 movies around 300mb each and around 13 music videos 20mb-35mb each they look like DVD, plus 213 songs. and I still have more than half of space empty on the ipod.

It's worth it for those with ipod touch or iphones.

  9. You guys are going to hate me, I found another great deal on another ipod on the other pawnshop close to my job, this one is the iTouch, damn this is a nice, almost spanking new just a small small scratch on the back, is a 8GB model paid for it $189+tax. I know it wont play videos on my D3 but this one is for my personal use. This one only had 2 songs in it

I connected the 60gb ipod to my pc and I have everything set to manual sync. I couldn't not play them in my PC but they're still on my ipod so is good, I just made a new playlist and added my own music.

60gb video gen 5th for the car

    8gb itouch for me :D

  10. After buying ans testing the ipod classic on my D3 , never played videos :( I returned the ipod classic and went in a hunt at the local pawn shops to find a used ipod 5th or 5.5th gen.

After months of looking super scratches ipods on my local pawnshops, I decided today to visit one more close to my work.

I found a Black 5th gen iPod video with 60GB harddrive in good conditions for $171 out the door (almost ebay price), the battery was dead and I was on my lunch break, so I bought it and connect it to my D3, as soon it turned on it showed 1591 songs and I said nice, searched the videos over 20 videos from itunes.

For my surprise 1064 song were purchased from itunes, good ones too from country, hip pop, regaee, rock, latin etc etc. The videos also were purchsed from itunes at least 17 of them.

Fully loaded ipod for $171 battery is almost charged so it's good.

I know people who spend a fortune in songs on itunes , this guy or girl spend more than $1000 on songs and videos for what I can see.

PS: Hit your local pawnshop you my find a good 5th gen ipod cheap.

  11. Mine haves a hardclip and a screw holding the mirror, I made sure it doesn't fall with the bass because my D3 is right underneath and in a angle, if the mirror falls it will break my LCD screen.

  12. it's possible maybe with an internal bypass, it have been done in another brands, also it can be done finding the correct wiring on the MAIN LCD of the AVIC-D3, but you still need a converter for the video signal etc. I think never have been done because they don't want to sacrifice their AVIC-D3 for the experiment.

  14. I just installed the bluetooth add-on to my AVIC-D3.

I'm getting a HISS sound like a empty FM station static sound while I'm in BT MODE on BT AUDIO is quiet.

Also I can't get any of my phones connected for more than 3 seconds.

Helio Ocean (Pantech)= Connects but in less than 3 seconds it says conection error

Helio Heat (Samsung)= Connects but as soon I want to try to make a call or anything else, it disconnects.

I tried to disconnect the power from the bluetooth, reset it, erased all my bluetooth trsuted devices from my phones etc. and doesn't work.

  15. Been covered. That unit's been out for a while now, and it's only designed to work fully with HDradio-ready head units, which the D3 is not. More on this subject here:

The AVIC-D3 will work with this unit but it will lack of some features:

    WORDS FROM PIONEER.com

"External Control" capable with other Pioneer IP-Bus headunits, a/v receivers and navigation systems, with some limitations of display and control. Please review Owner's Manual(s) for more details

  16. The only warranty they can void you is on the sound system, damage speakers or damage OEM amps if you damage this using the aftermarket head unit they can VOID the warranty only for those parts.

Example: If you add bigger wheels to your car, you can void your POWER TRAIN WARRANTY (Engine, transmition, Axles etc) but not your other stuff like peeling paint, damage power windows etc.

The dealer will try to void the complete warranty but I have seen persons fight for it and they only VOID certain things. In your case if you blow up the speaker and go to the dealer for warranty with the aftermarket headunit they won't fix it. Sound system have nothing to do with the rest of the car.

If you add racing graphics to your car and paint starts to peel off you might VOID the paint warranty, but that doesn't mean if the engines is damage they won't fix it, they have too.
