As a follow-up, the last few days I haven't had a single lock-up using my USB 2.0 stick vs. the USB 3.0 stick. I'm wondering if it has something to do with USB voltage, perhaps???

A quick follow-up. I tried swapping the USB 3.0 stick with the USB 2.0 stick and the issue doesn't seem to be happening. I'll report back in a few days and let you know if the results are consistent.

For Android Auto to work fully, both USB and Bluetooth connections must be used. AA splits the data send/receive up as well as the processing, using the phone for some of the processing power.

Howdy!
I have a few issues with my radio (USB lockup being the main bugaboo), but this one drives me absolutely crazy - My LG G4 (which is SUPPOSED to have Mirrorlink and MHL/Slimport support) does not want to work with the radio's HDMI port. I've tried both a MHL and Slimport cable and neither will work. Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance - will be happy to answer any questions for additional information.

I have this exact same problem. I have two PNY 128GB USB drives (one is USB 2.0, the other is USB 3.0). Both are identical formats (FAT32). Both have folders and sub-folders (Music>Artist Name;Video>Artist Name). If I leave these drives in when I start the car, the radio will never fully boot. However, if I remove the drive, then plug the USB sticks in AFTER the car has started and the radio boots, they read perfectly and there's no issue until I turn the car off again.
Does anyone have any feedback/info on this? It's VERY annoying...
Thanks in advance!

Out of curiosity, do you have a USB stick plugged in, and if so, is it USB 3.0? I had the same issue and found it's a compatibility with that SPECIFIC stick. My other USB sticks work just fine. Just something to check.
