  1. I assume that you already have the 5700tv installed. It is simply replacing your current antennas with the new ones. You just have to connect the porvided power plug into the cigarette lighter. To give it a cleaner install, you would splice into a power source that is control by the accessories ignition switch.
  2. I have it temporarily installed because I am trying to find the best location for the best reception. The antennas require 12 volts and it comes with a cigarette lighter plug connector. The antenna connection just plug into the 5700 unit directly.
  3. I finally received and installed the Pyle PLVWAN6 Powered Diversity TV Antenna to the 5700tv tuner. It does help in receiving weak signals, but the picture still flickers while (hypothetically) driving and much less than with the antennas that came with the unit. Standing still the pictures come in clearer and I can pick up one more NY channel (FOX). I think the flickering will always be there when moving and I am willing to put up with it. So the powered diversity antenna seems to be ok for me.
  4. I tried the BSSM setting and it does not improve reception. I tried to move the diversity antennas around and it helps. But as soon as I start driving it drifts which is what I expected. That indicates that the signal is weak to begin with. So I may try to use an antenna with a preamplifier. In the installation manual, it mentioned about using pioneer's AN-G3 amplied antenna if the signal is weak.

You will always pay more for Pioneer accessories. Here is similar product for much less.

  5. From what I read in the Z1 manual, the BSSM is used to store the strongest 12 stations. I also read somewhere that the 5700 will automaticaly switch to the diversity antenna that provides the strongest signal. Based on this information, I didn't think of setting the BSSM frequently to force the unit to select an antenna sorce, but I will give it a try.
  6. I just installed the 5700 and find it ok to watch. The stations that I pull in are from NY City (~35 miles away) but I can't get CBS and NBC stations. The other channels come in sometimes clear and sometime fuzzy while driving. I bought the 5700 knowing the reception can be fuzzy at times. Did anyone consider getting new diversity antennas with an amplifier? You can get them on ebay.

  7. I just bought the 5700 from the local 6Ave store for $246 + tax. Reading through the installation manual, I noticed it requires the "green wire" connection to the brakes. Can I just permanently ground that wire or do I need to put it on a switch? I am connecting it to the Z1 with no rear monitor.
  8. The 5700 will work with the Z1. Check with pioneerelectronics.com

I think this unit is a bit expensive. Has anyone consider other tuners on the market? Is it worth the extra bucks compared to other tuners on the market? Any installers out there who can comment on the differences?

  9. Here's an idea. Drive slower and drive closer to the speed limit. You wll save money from buying a radar detector, jammer, fines, and increase insurance premiums. When I had a radar detector, I got more tickets than without it. The cops always found a way to nail me and knew I had a radar detector which didn't go well with the judge. I accumulated enough points that the judge made me go to a driving safety class. Just my experience and thoughts.
  10. I had an intermittent distortion problem with my pioneer camera. It turned out to be a loose connector connection at the Z1 unit. When I was checking the connections, I heard a click sound around the connection which meant that it was not secured. Now the image is perfect all the time. You can do some troubleshooting by hooking up a camcorder to the video input to the Z1 and see if the image is distorted. If it is distorted, then the Z1 has a problem. You can test the camera by hooking it up to the AUX input of the Z1 and see if it is distorted.
  11. The Z1 is a new model that came out this year. After reading all the problems people experienced and seeing how it is more complex than my laptop, I decided to get the extended warranty for peace of mind. If you want to see the problems people are experiencing, go to the "Problem/troubleshooting" link of this forum.
  12. I agree with Philmatic. I emailed Pioneer and they told me that 6Ave.com is an authorize online retailer. The people who claim that they are not probably never checked with Pioneer. Do some research. While shopping at the local store today for a DVD recorder, I found out that they have a price protection guarantee for 30 days. I told them that their internet price for the Z1 went down in price since I bought it from them and they told me that they would credit me for the lower price. So I went back with my receipt and a copy of the internet price of $1497 and they credited me $19 back. I paid $1515 + tax two weeks ago. I've had a great purchase experience with them. I guess it depends on the sales guy that makes a difference.
  13. I printed out their internet price of $1515 and brought it to the local 6Ave store where they matched the price. Of course I had to pay 7% NJ sales tax but it is still a good competive price compared to the internet prices and with an authorize retailer waranty. They told me that if I have any problems, just bring it to the store and they will get it repaired. I thought I got a good deal. (I don't work for them.) They just dropped the price to $1497. Oh well.
  14. I was considering on getting an inexpensive tuner for $60 and feed the video to the input video of the Z1. These cheaper units have a separate remote control that you would use instead of the Z1 control. That's probably why the Pioneer tuners are so expensive becasue it is integrated with their unit. Has anybody tried a cheap tuner instead?
  15. I opened the dash to check on the video connection and it was secured. When I checked on the connector going into the Z1, I heard click sound which probably meant that the connection was not plugged in al the way. I connected my camcorder to the camera input of the Z1 and it was ok. I hope the loose connection was the problem of the intermittent distortion.
  16. On the Z1, you can enter a business phone number and it will provide a name and location. When searching for the nearest Home Depot using the POI search, it will give you a list of locations to choose from. The database seems to have the business name, address, and phone number. Is there a way to get the business phone number when using the POI search?
