  1. I downloaded the torrent for the UIF file. I then opened the UIF file with MagicISO which then said the trial version would not uncompress the ISO since it was over 700K.

I uncompressed the UIF file in chunks into a directory and got this:

    AVIC_2008_Directory.jpg

so can I just burn these to a DL-DVD with ImgBurn ?

If not can someone point me to the .ZIP file dL of the East ISO ?

    Thanks,

  2. I did an install on my 2001 GS430 with Factory Pioneer System (Nakamichi and Mark Levinson systems might be different)

    Good reading WITH pics http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=286180

You use TWO harnesses for a factory plug install.

Metra 70-8113 2000-up Toyota / Lexus Amp Sys this plugs the D3 into the Toyo factory batt, ACC, ground and dimmer

Metra 70-1761 1987+ up Toyota Harness you'll only use the speaker patch half near the factory (CRAP) amp.

Here are some wire colors for the '01GS430

    Blue/Yellow stripe (battery (always HOT))

    Gray ACC (switched)

    White/ Black Stripe (Ground)

    Light Green (Illumination)

    FACTORY PIONEER CHANGER

    • You can order an internal PCB board and convert it for use with the D3. I think it costs $75 if you're willing to do the install yourself.

    FACTORY SUB

    • It is 5ohm so you are SOL on re-using it. The factory AMP has some sort of proprietary Bus signal to turn it on/off that only works with OEM Lexus head units so you can forget using that too.

The Metra double din kit looks lik A$$ since it is textured black. You can order a JDM double din plate from Carson Lexus it is a PERFECT match to the rest of the dash.

Right now I am running my D3 straight to the stock speakers and it honestly sounds better than the factory system with the amp and 10"sub. I just got my door speaker adapters and will be hooking my 6 channel amp/sub and 6.5" speakers up this weekend.

  3. Dear "whipped"

Let's stay on point shall we ?

I don't need to compare toys with you .... I'm trying to offer you a solution wherin you don't have to break the law to keep things quiet in your car for your wife, while trying to listen to music, so you don't fall asleep out of boredom.

So I DON'T HAVE TO BREAK THE LAW [and it is a law in most states since wearing headphones will ... I dunno ... possibly impede you from hearing a siren, train horn, your wife choking or suffering a sleep apnia attack ...] my wife will put on her noise cancelling headphones and I will keep the volume down. Most of the time she likes me enough to talk to me during our roadtrips though :P

Taken from the VA DMV website:

"It is unlawful to operate a motor vehicle, moped or bicycle on Virginia roadways while using earphones or headphones in both ears."

    New York Law

"Section 375 24-a. Use of earphones while driving or riding a bicycle

It shall be unlawful to operate upon any public highway in this state a motor vehicle, limited use automobile, limited use motorcycle or bicycle while the operator is wearing more than one earphone attached to a radio, tape player or other audio device."

    Cliff Notes:

    • research THE LAW in your state

    • K.I.S.S.

    • continue to be 'nice' to your wife in a 'reasonable' way

    • try NOT to kill anyone while futzing with your D3 while driving

  4. How about a little sticky that says "Stealing this unit is futile. It is password protected !"

My favorite is the faux 'seat cushion'

    1. Take a piece of 1/2" plywood and cut it to the shape of your seat base.

    2. Drill 2-3 dozen 1 1/2" deck screws into the board

    3. Flip the board over and loosly cover the points with polyfill

    4. Cover your pillow with any kind of cloth, naugahyde, vinyl

Put that sucker in your seat at night and when the theiving deadbeat tries to help himself/herself you your AVIC ....

OUCH ! ... and you have a DNA sample !

    BOO YAH SHACKA !

  5. I'm in VA too and I have the same thing happening.

My antenna is mounted on the rear deck of my Lexus GS430 it is on teh metal pad but that pad is simply stuck onto my carpeted rear deck. Should I "ground' the pad to the metal chassis of the car ?

Otherwise I'll pack it up and send it to the original vendor for a replacement. Can I take my unit to a Pioneer service center to have it checked out before sending it out for replacement ?

    Thanks,

    Dave (also GPS-less in VA)

  6. I called crutchfield and they told me to call pioneer and to see if it was defective. so i called pioneer troubleshooting and they didnt do jack SH#T. So i called Crutchfield again and they overnighted me one and i installed it and BAMM, I have a working navigation for my D3. Pioneer said that it should work pretty easy. If your having the same problem i was having, this is what you should try and if it doesnt work then take it back and get a new one. If when you first turn the d3 on and it has you somewhere that you dont live at then go to navi menu and to setting and select modify current location and once you do that and it doesnt work then just take it back.

What did they send you a new GPS antenna or a new D3 headunit ?
