1. have you found a solution to your problem? I'm in the same situation. I want to be able to play MP3's on my AVIC-N1 without having to take the Nav DVD out. I would prefer to have the controls on the N1, but the ipod interface sounds like the biggest pile of crap. So i'm torn.

My other option is to install a HDD Media Player so that I can play anything (MP3, AVI, MPG, etc). But my concern is how the software functions...i cant preview it since it's a unit from China.

Has anyone come up with any good solutions with our AVIC units?

2. Yeah, I would think reading the MP3's would be an easy software fix/upgrade.

I just wish it would be the same for playing the Divx files. Wouldn't it be simply software related though? It's not like our computers have any specific hardware that we need to play Divx files. We just need the drivers which hook to our media player / video card hardware......I can dream, can't I? :(

It really makes me mad that after selling all of these N1/2/3 and D1/2 units for $2,000-2,200 a pop, now they come out with an even better and more advanced unit for only $1,000. Of course, if I was on the other side of the fence as someone who didnt already own an AVIC unit, then I'd be jumping for joy

3. Do you think we'll get a software upgrade for our AVIC N1/2/3 to get the same functionality as the new AVIC D3 software? Specifically, I'd like to be able to burn MP3, AVI (DIVX), etc to DVD-R's. This video mentions that the new units have that capability: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v ... camp=email

Do you think our N1/2/3 units have the hardware capabilities for these functions (besides the bluetooth and ipod controls)?

4.
Tried to pull out manually but won't budge. I took the metal cover off and am looking for the screw to take out for the motor.
You should see a little screw near the gear head of the motor. It holds a little metal plate that's attached to the motor. Once you remove that screw, the whole motor can be lifted up with only the thin power cables attached.
5. You can slide it out manually as if it was opening on its own, but just make sure you didnt remove the two little black retainer clips (they're held on by tiny little phillips head screws). This will stop the screen from coming off the tracks and breaking the switch. It's tough to move the screen manually...you gotta give it a little muscle to get those gears moving, but it will.

If you don't want to force it, you could always remove the metal panel that hides all of the gears and motors and then remove the single screw that holds one of the motors in place. This way the screen will slide easily without any friction from the motor.

Whatever you decide to do, just do it carefully

I'll be around the computer tonight in case you need any help.
6.
I have the unit apart. How do you release the ribbon off of the screen? I know it was said not to let the screen all the way out. But the screen does not move to be able to get the ribbon off the screen.
I can't remember off the top of my head right now. Can you post some pics of your unit apart and then I can tell you what to do next. Since my spring switch was broken, I had my screen all the way off the tracks and so just replaced the ribbon while it was apart from the tracks. I *believe* you can still do it with the screen still on the tracks, but I could be wrong. Again, pics would def. help to walk you through this.
7. I hate to say it, but you'll probably use the mic once or twice and never again. I got the mic/remote kit and installed it when i bought my N1.

I've literaly used the mic 3 times and decided it's more work trying to get the unit to recognize what the hell you're saying than to just press the buttons yourself.

As for the remote...just because of the way my dash and steering wheel are located, I can't mount the remote on the steering wheel and still be within enough distance for the headunit to register the button presses.

And yes, it connects to the head unit and not the brain.

The only reason i bought this kit was for the remote. I wish I would've bought the credit card style remote instead.

8. In amp3d's wire-mod tutorial, there's a picture of the unit taken apart and you can see the flex cable (I've attached the image below):

Again, DO NOT pull the screen all the way out of it's tracks...you'll end up breaking the spring switch. And no, the Pioneer parts do not come with any instructions. I'm surprised that they built the units with a diffective part like the ribbon cable. From what I've read, people who have replaced the cable with the new one listed in my previous post, have no had any more problems with their cables cracking. Hopefully, it'll remain this reliable, but I still set my flap to "manual" so that there's less stress on the cable and hopefully last much longer.

Hope this helps.
9.
looks like I'm a day late... but ya you can not downgrade the N2 to use the 40 software and the east coast torrent that is posted here for the 60 software is junk -Doesn't work.. but the west coast works
Thanks for the heads up about not being able to downgrade the N2.

The East Coast torrent does work, however. I can confirm this since it's the same one that I'm using in my unit right now.
10. If I were you, I'd just go ahead and download a torrent program. I use Azureus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/) and it's great. I used to use IRC for downloads, but it's so unreliable and downloads generally are much slower. Once you go with torrents, you'll never go back to IRC.

Remember to buy Dual-Layer DVD-R's since each image file is over 6GB.
11. I'm not positive, but I believe that the brain has really nothing to do with the software you're using on the head unit. You're most likely getting the error message because you currently have the 50M version of the software already installed on your N2.

You could either:

1) Downgrade your software to the 40M so that all you have to do is ground the parking brake wire.

- or -

2) Peel off your sticker on the N2 unit and flip that switch, plus ground the brake wire, and download/buy a set of 50M or 60M DVD's.
12. Everything sounds like it's right. I feel like the problem may be with the DVD's themselves with the N3 software. I'm using a 60MP disc that I downloaded online and it works just fine. I'm not sure what the differences are between MP and MV, but maybe that has something to do with it??

I would try downloading a new copy of the software and reinstall it. Search the torrent sites for a copy.
13. I typically just burn my own CD's using Nero. I always burn MP3's that I know have the ID3 tags encoded into the files so that Nero can pick them up and encode the CD with the correct song titles, artist, and album title.

But it's odd that you havent found at least one CD that has the titles encoded. I'm starting to think that you just don't have the unit set to display the tracks.

Try this, press the first button on the left on the top of the screen when it's flipped up. The second button is used for "pause" (I may have the two buttons confused...this is what i can remember off the top of my head). You can keep pressing the button to shuffle through different display modes (I use a CD changer so my display modes are different).

Let me know if that works out for you.
14. This is the exact same thing that happened to me. Read my post where I included the exact part that you need to order and how to replace it. All it is is a tiny spring switch that most likely broke when you pulled the screen all the way out or too far out. Let me know if this helps:
