  1. Hey everyone. Haven't been on here in a while. I have been happily using my F-700bt for a while now until last night that is.

On my way home It just rebooted out of nowhere. When it came back up it was constantly saying "System Staring up". It never goes away until it reboots itself a few min later.

Here is what I tried so far:

If I try to go to the map screen it just gets stuck on the warning message.

I can still navigate through some of the menus and when I went to service information it says "No Map Version"

I tried re-downloading the 2.0 update but it just ignores the SD card and boots up like its not in there.

I went into testmode but I can't remember for the life of me where to look to see if the maps are there.

It sounds like the maps are the problem. I don't know why it did this. I can still listen to IPOD/Radio until the next reboot which is really annoying. Any Ideas??? Thanks!

  2. And yeah, going from a Z to an F is definitely a downgrade.

I went from a Z1 (Z3 HDD) to a F700. Even though I pocketed almost $400 from the "downgrade" after selling my Z1, I miss it sometimes. I question whether I made the right move. My Z1 worked awesome the whole 2.5 years I owned it, never had a complaint.

  3. Hot out of the box, I received my new iPod touch 32gb unit, and after hours of syncing, I pluigged it into my Avic F-900bt and lo and behold it worked as flawlessly as my iPod classic. Audio was good, cover art was perfect and video was searchable, controllable and looked great.

I appreciate the efforts apple and Pioneer put forward to this, or what a great success by accident !

    Happy driving !

I had posted a thread about this the other day. That is awesome! Might have to pick one of these up now

  4. ..is it even possible? I find myself in situations where I need to search by the business name, but there's no btn for it anywhere... does it even exist?

I'm pretty sure its under POI Under the destination menu. Then hit the search button in the bottom left. Done it a few times and found it had the business every time so far. It's there. I dont have the unit in front of me at the moment but it is under POI for sure.

  5. I made a POI on mine and here is what was saved in my user.upoi file:

    1|Test|Testpoint||33.764494|-116.310153|_u**|_ucx||near Palm Desert, CA|Unnamed road||||

I just saved it in an open area. I get _u** and _ucx on mine. Interesting. I really want to use the red light database and add it so they actually show up as red lights etc. Looks like its not far off.

  6. My IPOD (80gb 6g classic) would occasionally fail. If you pressed next track or anything on the screen it would just go "beep" and go to off just like if you unplugged it. I tried everything and as a last resort ended up using a program to back up my ipod to my PC. I then used Itunes to restore (totally erase it) and copy all my movies and songs back on. It seems to have fixed that problem. Strange huh?

I still get the occasional problem now where I start my car and the IPOD just plain does not show up. The ipod itself shows that it is charging but does not show the pioneer logo. I have to press menu and the center button to reboot the IPOD and so far that has gotten it back up every time.

I am using the $50 apple cable.

  7. If you want to watch video on the 700, get a 6G ipod classic. The videos look great and you don't have to fumble around with a pack of dvds.

My 700's drive has never even been used yet

The 6th gen ipods seem to have better video quality (if encoded for it)

Yes its a little pain to convert them to the ipod, but its worth it. Having that huge list at your fingertips is awesome. I have every episode of Futurama on my ipod and almost every family guy episode along with sevreal movies. There's still plenty of room on my 80gb. :D

  8. I was able to convert the waypoints.csv file into one large .KML file.

I do database conversions and scripting at my work. This was right up my alley :D

I haven't tried it yet on my Avic but it does open all 20k in Google earth. The points are all over the world! Plus there appear to be lots of duplicates.

If it's just Avic Feeds that limits it to 300 points then who knows the unit might accept this, who knows. Take a look for yourself. Once I get home I will try this on my avic. Have fun!

  9. this has been discussed before; the problem is that most vehicles suck up all available battery when cranking, thus the unit goes for a reboot anyway

My 03 Chevy Duramax keeps the radio on while cranking. Might be because there are two batteries under the hood though. :D

Gonna look into something like this soon. Leaving my keys in the truck in acc mode is just too risky at times!

  10. You nailed it. Add support for IPOD Touch 2.x.x as well.

    • - Long boot time
      - Remove boxes from map when not navigating
      - If navigating when placing a call change to map screen during call and then return to previous active screen after call
      - If not navigating when placing a call do not change the screen
      - Leave audio turned off between voice prompts when placing a call
      - Do not automatically switch to iPod AV source when connecting iPod unless AV is set to off
      - If AV is off take me to the AV source selection screen when selecting off on the map screen.
      - Remove "System is loading" screen during startup, obviously it's loading, that's why there is a startup screen.
      - Do not launch UI until it is fully useable, leave the startup screen up.
      - One time update VR option, push the button to update the database without having to enable the setting, then disconnect and reconnect the iPod, and then disable the setting.
      - Prerecord the major voice instructions (for phone and ipod navigation) instead of relying on TTS. For something you have to listen to regularly, that doesn't change, the crappy, choppy TTS sounds terrible.

  11. I read somewhere on here that people were using the Pandora app on the Iphone while it was hooked up to their f-series. Can anyone comment on how well this is working? Can you control anything or change tracks from the Avic? This would be a very cool thing to have as another option from XM/Sirius. It could be that last push I need to convince me to possibly get an Iphone :D

  12. haha. oh well. I tried searching the forum to find info on it but didn't in time. 12 bucks isn't the end of the world. I guess I'll resell it to some other sucker. At least I know not to bother waiting for it to come in! Thanks.

I bought the hong kong version before I read this. It hasnt showed up yet so I just went down to best buy and got the apple cable for my F700. I'm gonna keep the hong kong one in my RV/Toyhauler for watching movies. Hopefully it will at least work for that :/

  13. I've got an F90 in an 04 Silverado SS and I think I'm using the American Int'l kit. I just rode out to Best Buy and picked it up for 15 bucks. Seems to sit about right in the truck.

Separate question though. Which wire harness is the one that you tap into for the remote function? I have four or five harness connectors under the steering wheel and it was about to rain so I didn't push it any further. TIA.

Thanks for the reply. I was just on the American Intl website. Their kit appears to have long slotted holes so any depth can be set. Looks like I'm gonna have to make a best buy run today.

About the steering wheel control wire. I installed that back in 2006 when I first installed my Z1. My memory is fading!

    Check out this thread http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3398&highlight=classic

It describes just about everything for installing in a Silverado including the steering wheel interface. Good Luck!

  14. Just thought I would report for anyone interested. Went for a 30 min drive. Bypass is working. Back up camera is working. Bluetooth is working great. So far the voice recognition worked every time for making calls. I was able to download my phonebook (LG VX-8600) no problem. My steering wheel controls are also working. Mute, volume source, truck-up etc. So far I am a satisfied F-Series customer!

Now other than I different dash kit (if thats even avaliable) I just need to figure out what format divx files it likes best and get my dam IPOD cable. (didn't get here yet)

  15. Didn't seem to find anything on the search.

Has anyone installed one in these vehicles as of yet?

I just changed to a F700BT from a Z1 (been working on it most of the day today). Got it installed but I don't really like the way its sitting in the dash right now. One setting is either to far in or slightly too far out (the way it is seen now). Its flexing the plastic ring a little cause its out too far.

If anyone has done it, what mounting kit did you go with? My Z1 seemed to fit a little better in the dash than the F700. I am using a metra multi kit (few years old as it was used on my Z1 install). Can anyone recommend a better part # or link.

It is installed and running with the bypass. Going to go for a test drive once I get everything cleaned up.

So far everything seems to be working! :D
