  1. Thanks again to everybody who helped me. I did the bypass with no complications and was able to tap into the vss wire (at ECM under the hood) and the back-up light (behind the tail-light in the trunk) with no problem.

I spent more time trying to fit a decoy faceplate then I did actually installing the avic-d3.

I ended up ruining the decoy radio face and it looks like crap. Aw-well

  2. The lowest price I could find on GEX-P10XMT NavTraffic Tuner was $160 USD (on eBay)

Will the price be coming down any time soon? I am wondering if XM is planning to do a bundle promotion similar to the cell phone companies such as:

free GEX-P10XMT with a 1 year contract or something along those lines.

I bought my Avic-D3 for $550 from Al-eds.com and it looks like I pulled the trigger too early on that one because others got it for $530. Dont want to repeat this mistake.

  3. Hello,

Could someone please help me find the vss wire in 2004 Saturn Ion 2 QC?

There is a harness that plugs into the instrument panel (aka I/P cluster or gauge cluster). Could I tap into the wire from there rather than the ECM?

Thanks in advance for any help.

(The picture attached is of the connector taken out of the little snap tight frame that holds it into the cluster. )

  4. Hello,

I am working with this decoy template. It is designed to simulate an empty harness with wires (like no radio in there at all). Cheaper option than the face off your factory radio.

    Instructions:

Right click photo below and save it to your hard-drive. The full size is 8 x 10 inches. The decoy picture is the exact size of the double din opening (after trimming it with scissors).

Print the picture out as a 8 x 10 photo (matte finish preferable) you can do this at CVS or Walgreens for $3 dollars. Then trim to size. THis is enough to make 2 decoy faceplates.

I plan to attach the picture to a piece of manilla folder or other thin cardboard to create a back to the photo which makes it less flexible and sturdy. Perhaps I can also laminate it with contact paper for protection.

When you leave your car you just place this on top of the Avic-D3 to fool the thieves into thinking there is no radio in there at all.

I will post pictures in a few days of the final look. Let me know if this works for you.

  5. well since my old stereo was stolen and I did not want a repeat with the D3. this thread gave me a great idea.

I had an old boost gauge that was busted so I dissected it and made it 2D and mounted it on some free black plexi

What tool did you use to cut the black plexiglass smoothly? And what holds it in place over the avic?
