No they are not a Pioneer dealer but my prefered installer. I just had them put a 7k system with the 505 in my 3rd car and felt comfortable with them to handle this install.

 

They sold and installed the entire system but I bought amp/speakers/sub from them.

 

They do excellent work and I am very picky. The system they put in my 2008 M5 is incredible ( from HU back) I have a R8 coming early next year and I on purpose did not buy the B&O option as it was not worth the money so they could do that car as well.

Hey how's the 505 compared to the F90BT? I'm assuming you also have the Blackbird nav. Any comments will be appreciated.

Given all the issues these units have at the moment, I would probably buy the Alpine IVA-505 along with the Blackbird nav unit (for nav and bluetooth and additional expandability via SD). Plus larger screen (7") and a much cleaner interface. One thing that is not clear to me is why the Blackbird unit costs so much ~$650. I don't see how this can be justified. The head unit doesn't come with nav built in and is priced at $1100. It doesn't try to do everything but it works as a multimedia station. The nav and bluetooth functionality is reserved for the portable Blackbird unit. I am yet to see widespread discontent on these units. I was looking forward to the F90BT - hopefully the next Z series unit will meet the advertised "quality" and "functionality" that was promised on the F-series units.

Just for kicks, could you please insert a CD or DVD with MP3's on it or an SD card with MP3s on it to see how the interface presents the track list. A screen shot would be great.

Can you mimic the push talk button on the wired remote interface rather than only have to keep pushing it?

Another big plus is the flat styling of the buttons on the new units. They are fewer and are not bulging out of the unit - that's what makes most of these units not fit quite right.

Any info on the SD card capacity? i.e does the slot support high capacity SD cards?

Yes. There will also be a PC Program that will let you customize it further, save the profile to a SD Card, and load it onto the unit.

 

Will it also be possible to customize the icons/fonts? They should allow at least a subset of the interface icons to be changed. Is this possible with the current units apart from color customization?

 

Yes, I would also like to know more about the customizability program. Is it just for the POI or can you do custom icons, etc?

Not 100% sure. I know you can customize the backgrounds and LED colors. Not sure if you can change the icons.

 

I'm sure that it's probably going to end up just being for POI. Thinking about it, they probably would make a much bigger deal about it if we could customize the full UI. Though, from what I could see of the stock interface, I would not really want to change it anyway. Looks very slick.

I agree that the default interface is appealing to some (probably a lot) but these devices could be even more appealing if we could "tone" down some of the icons/fonts used so that the UI is not necessarily 'screaming' at you. For instance, it should be possible to convert all the non-critical UI icons (non-nav) to 2D and remove unneeded shadows. This could greatly improve useability for some folks. Just saying.

who here like i was on the verge of buying a Z or even a D but have now abandoned there planes and are wait for the release of the F. I want the AVIC-F90BT

 

So i see that most of the stores around here have not started selling the z3 i know it comes out in June but how long will it take for the F to hit store shelves.

I too am eagerly anticipating the F-Series release. Also going for the premier AVIC-F90BT. Hope their promised scheduled launch of June doesn't slip too much

is it possible to get better shots of these units installed? or is it too early. The scion pics are not that good - can't quite make out whats around the unit.
