  1. Okay, I just read all the threads here (I didn't search elsewhere yet, so sorry if its there) BUT WE all know Pioneer has ISSUES with loop noise and interference on the RCA outputs, its so bad, some have actually used Speaker out to line level convertors to get clean signals to their amps. I actually took the time to solder ground leads to each of the RCA output barrels, and connected the cross connects them to a common ground on the frame of my z1 to help get rid of it, anyone have any comments on this yet?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. I got the new mic, haven't taken the time to run it. But I finally fixed my z3 image with the one that DOESNT reboot on voice activation button activation. I have never use the voice recognition features. I haven't read how to use them also, but this makes me think that maybe my BT might get better, because with the current mic, when I push the Voice rec. button, and it tells me to say something, nothing I say gets picked up, I assume the commands are whats listed on the screen, and I have tried to say all the command phrases (just about anything I see on the screen) and it does nothing, 1 time I said something and it repeated one of the line phrases (I said nothing like it) and went to the next round of traffic selection input, but didnt care what I said.

  3. Thought I would update this thread. Pioneer is known to have MEGA issues on the grounding of the rca jacks to the ground within the head unit (I'm just repeating what I have read ALL OVER the internet).

I have seen all kinds of external wire wraps where people have wrapped wire all around the barrels of ALL rca's at the head unit, and then grounded them to the frame of the radio and the noise is GONE. I also read where people use the speaker outputs and then use high level convertors to make them rca's and then feed the amps that way. This way works when you dont have a sub and sub amp that doesn't have good controls (if you have a sub and use the crossover from the head unit, this method will cause issues, as obviously 1 sub amp to the sub rca's and the whine is back, but if you have a good eq or external crossovers or crossovers on the amp, you can jump the subs input from the pass-thru on the high/mid amp and get it that way).

Anyways, 15 minutes to install the speaker wires to rca convertor and ALL while is gone, and the system is much cleaner.

Its too bad the internet and even this site is littered with fixes like this all due to bad engineering on the pioneer head units. at 2k a pop, who would figure they need to street engineering a fix for grounding the rca's

  4. My guess is that even with the factory mic you're going to be disappointed with the quality. I've used many systems, both aftermarket and OEM, and the quality of the Z series and the D3 is sub par at best.

Hopefully the F series will be much better with the switch to the Parrot Bluetooth paradigm.

Kind of sad that for 90 bucks I can get a clip on my visor that works KILLER, but on a 1500 dollar system with a 90 dollar upgrade I cant get something worth a shit. I hope I can make it at least usable.... :(

  5. Try doing the bluetooth update first. You might try different mic placement too. The mic is here:

    http://parts.pioneerelectronics.com/par ... um=CPM1064

I'm last tried it when running the z2 image, I havent with the new Z3 that I am running, maybe my z2 bypassed image didnt have the bluetooth updates to it? Im assuming that the z3 image does however.

I'll grab a factory mic for starters.

Any one else using the htc touch and have it all working well?

  6. I bought my z1 with no microphone, I had one left over from a OLD N1 install (I think) but its missing the foam piece over the mic. Anyways, I have a Sprint HTC Touch (PPC 6800), and I have made some trivial attempts to use it in the car, any person I have called ended up in a hang up. It was so bad, they couldn't even attempt to communicate with me. I had to yell at the microphone (mounted on the far left edge of the drivers visor) to even let them try to make my voice out. And when talking to them later, there was complaints of multiple echo's when they could make anything out.

Can someone help me start from scratch, and point me to a replacement microphone know to work. Or the original one from the avic z1/2/3?

I just got back from a trip where I connected the same phone to a garmin my touch via bluetooth, and used it all week with no issues, no complaints from end users about echo's and I could "tell" that it was working with them, on my z1/z3 I can tell just by the outgoing ring over the speakers that it was gonna be noisy.

I'll continue searching the forums for info, but hope Ive just missed someone else talking about getting the htc touch working well.

And, point me to a microphone please....

Navtraffic and bt phone is about 50% of the reason I bought this unit. I need to ditch the ear dongle if I can.. :)

    Thanks

  7. make sure your amps are not grounded to the body (the amp body itself), I learned to bolt wood to the car, then the amps to the wood. THEN the shortest ground possible to the body from the amp ground connection.

Let us know, as even I have this in my new AVIC, but I was trying to use the factory amp in my car with the avic, NOTHING but ground noise, I went to a aftermarket amp to finally get rid of it, as well as new high quality source cables.

  8. My appologies to everyone that wasted their time downloading my image. I don't have my bluetooth module installed yet, and thus, never have tested the voice feature,

    Sorry....

-as a roll my head away in shame....

    :(

I really would like to know wtf on this. Too bad Im in NY while my car is in San Diego, will test ASAP.

Anyone know if the unit requires a special microphone or what? I hear that the bluetooth phone on these things is almost unusable due to background noise, echo's, etc, etc I figure a special mic could help?

  9. I had this problem as well. I was finally forced to bypass the external amp and use the pioneer internal amp and the ground loop then went away. I also tried an isolator that reduced the hum but did not eliminate it.

I had a Fosgate 400.4 amp, and was just waiting to install it in the car once I could afford the focal components that I was waiting for. I left my car today with my dad to take into my buddies shop while Im out of town in New York, they took the factory amp out of the equation and replaced the speakers with mephis audio components in the front and some decend 4way 6x9 kenwoods in the rear, I'm told by my dad that when he picked up the car tonight, that all the noise was gone. (We'll see when I get home if its really gone, but like you I gave up on the factory amp and supplied a new amp, speakers, all rca wires, and all speaker wire). We'll see like I said.

  10. I have supplied the links to all 19 498mb files (you have to make the files under 500 megs on megauploads for non paying members to be able to get them, thats still 5x bigger than rapid share).

Ducatiboy, Hyperite, bigfloppy, and big-fokker all have the links. Im shutting down to head for my flight to NY for my sister in laws Wedding. I know that hyperite will have his private ftp uploaded by tomorrow sometime, and with my links and the 4 users I have sent the links to, all should be seeded and good to go,

    Take it easy guys, enjoy.

  11. why are you doing it on megaupload? Why would someone wanna keep waiting 45 seconds to download a part and there is numerous parts. The FTP server is a much better idea just like last time, but if its the same as the one on ftp server then i guess more variety where to download. Also seems like the z3 is a 40gb HD, does that mean there is only 10gb of music space vs the z1,z2 you had 20gb if you had a 40gb HD upgrade?

I didnt get a ftp dump site, (Im new here), but I do have the goods, just attempting to share what I can. thats what makes these sites work.. :)

My files are up, I think the ftp will be around in the morning, and MORE importantly, seeding and torrents should be started tomorrow as well.

  12. All the files are up on megaupload. I have provided them to the op. via a PM. Although It shouldnt take anyone too long to grab them with a fast connection. I think the ftp'd image should be ready tomorow morning as well. I'm off to New York for a wedding, hope to read about alot of happy people when I get back... Later all.

  13. You want me to stop, I dont see why to do this more than once. I do have the image, and about 40% of it up on megaupload. I was waiting to here from ya, if you want me to upload it to your ftp, send me the info, like I said. I have the tib, and it rar'd into 498 mb chunks...

  14. Ouch, that is gonna take awhile. Good luck with the upload!

Hopefully you have a good pipe to upload it through.

5GB over cable modem is about 24 hours.

    Thanks for sharing the image.

Getting a little over 500 KBS (hit or miss). We'll see how much smack I get from our network admin. They have me limited at 250 per connection, but I've got 2 machines going at the same time. :)

  15. megaupload lets me put 500 mb chunks. Im rar'ing the 9.27gb's to 498mb chunks. Thanks 19 or 20 chunks. With the interface I can upload 10 at a time (gonna take some time). I'm starting this now. I'll PM the download links to a OP. Then they can put it all together and distribute it how they want to. I'm leaving for New York tomorrow morning, so I need to just get it out there to you, gonna leave it to all of you to make sure it gets distributed.

  16. Okay guys, Acronis image is 25% done. Drive was locked. O'well my mistake, wish I would have seen the 411 "discount price". anyways, drive is on a 40pin to 44pin ide adaptor (screw the usb) and images are being written.

    SOON guys, real soon.

  17. IF you just look at the files on the drive, can you see anythign?

I could see files on SOME of the partitions, but -> I left the office with the backup to image running.

When I had first hooked it up, it found all the partitions and said they were blank. During this time, I hit do nothing, almost seconds later, Vista updated drivers and recognized the USB disk, and then their were the 4 of 5 partitions that were the data.

I started the image creation, but it was saying it was going to take 19 hours or so (I was using a usb to ide2.5" external disk container).

I saw all the info here about bad images, so I canceled it, and installed it. It booted and updated and everything checked out, so I pulled and brought it back to the computer with Vista, and when I plugged in the drive, Vista came up and said it didn't have drivers for the attached disk (the same on that it saw earlier). I hit cancel, and then it found all the partitions, only this time its claims they are LBA partitions (earlier I think said were fat32, I MIGHT be wrong), and now 1 of the partitions doesn't say how much space it is, its a blank partition, the other 4 or 5 (Im not there, i forget) have the correct partition sizes.

I am assuming that the drive was locked after booting. If I don't have a image when I get to the office tomorrow, I probably will continue following the online documentation for unlocking it, and then changing the drive bios to NOT allow it to lock. I might as well, right, as sooner or later I am going to want to allow to update it.

I have a ide 40 pin to laptop 44pin adaptor at my house that I am going to bring into the office so that I am not using the usb to 2.5" adaptor.

Anyways, I should have the drive unlocked regardless, AND once I am using a real pata ide connection to the 2.5" drive, it will take minutes rather than days to pull the image off of it.

Like I said, I am now doing this because I WANT the drive unlocked and forced un-lockable for the next round of updates, getting the image off for all of you is just a by product.

I know mine is working, and is correct, and I need to learn how to do the unlock thing anyway. By the COB tomorrow, I will have it up and give the FTP info to someone here. Then I take off to new york for business, so if not by tomorrow night, then you guys will get it from someone else, cause Im outta town,

I suggest anyone getting the image from someone on ebay, MAKE sure the disk is protected so it cant be locked, mine was from a buddy, but we didn't think we HAD to turn off drive security by default, I thought it was off and you HAD to turn it on, Turns out that drives from some dealers even new, will be locked if you don't turn the security off.

    just my 5cents...

  18. Here's what I have:

    Opening splash screen:

    1984-2008

    Rel. 02/2008

    Service Info Screen:

    version 03.0000

cddb 08-01-0010 (only because I updated to this last night)

    Hidden Component Vers Screen:

    platform 3.000100

    gps 1.200000

    hdd 3.100200

    Look good???

BTW - Thanks for the .pdf instructions bridge4d

    Looks great to me.

Any chance that you're going to be the hero that shares? ;-);-)

I tried on Sunday, but my computer would not recognize the drive, so we figured that the Z1 locked it :???:

I have my stock drive in for duplicating and once that comes back I'll hook it up before it gets anywhere near the Z1 :) If it's recognized, I have no problem with uploading it.

Hey, I just got all kinds of errors in my TIB attempt as well. What did your system start doing?

I booted my drive in my system as well. Any everything worked find, but now when I am trying to make a copy of it, Its acting strange.

I too wonder if it got locked by my Z1 when I booted it to check the rev #'s?

Everyone might be shit out of luck, as now my acronis is saying that there are errors and that I might be able to read the original via sector by sector..

Will talk to my friend and ask for another copy if I can get it from him.

And will continue to let acronis try to get a copy of it... SHIT SHIT SHIT...

  19. while Im sitting here getting ready to leave the office with this thing SLOWLY making the image, I was reading about using the used sector backup method (which only backs up used data), has anyone tried backing up the drives this way? I would think that its MUCH faster on a virgin image, right? cause its not backing up the zero bytes that the other method is doing?

    Just curious...

    SD

  20. Rapidshare might not be the way to go with files having to be split into 100MB chunks

total filesize is going to be somewhere near 10GB

lets use a newsgroup server! ... They are fast.

Stupid question - Do i have to sign up for that $45 site in order to unlock my z2 hard drive? Or is there ways around that to unlock the z2 hard drive?

I would, this way you can actually get into it, AND turn off the feature so that it doesnt lock up again, ODDS are, that even though you have the most current version now, that updates will be made available, and without it unlocked and permanantly set to not RElock, you wont be able to do the next round of updates, and judging my the rate at which they are releaseing these things (z3, then the new F series). You dont want to be locked out... do you... ;)

  21. I plan on providing it to a OP here, I will provide it to them via FTP. I'll snag some space off a work FTP, which I really dont want ALL of you hitting all day-night, no need to cause me grief. However, I know hyperite has the means to get it out, so he will be the guy I send it too, (Any other mod can PM me, he's just the only one that I have talked personally with). MAN its slow grabbing it via a usb to 2.5" drive convertor, but its going. I suspect the ops will be letting you all know the torrent by this time tomorrow.

    Adios...
