  1. Hi, I'm nervous about playing around with my data.zip file, and I was hoping one of you AVIC hacking gurus could help me. I'd like to change the big, squarish top/left blue box into a delete route button. Can someone please point me into the right direction?

I'd appreciate it very, very much. :)

  2. There are a ton of posts about the different mods all in different states of completion. I thought it would be helpful for Avic411 forum noobs or casual Avic411 surfers have 1 easy central thread to find the information about what is out there and where to get that information. I'm ignoring already stickied info

Please help this thread be more useful by replying with additions that I've missed or any corrections. Thanks!

  3. My clock randomly will switch a few hours, then... it goes back to normal after a few more hours. Very odd. I've also had my screen switch to "night" mode in the middle of the day and switch back to day mode after an hour or so. very weird.

  4. So, we can upload POIs from SD/USB. Is there anyway to get a list of POIs? For example, I don't like there are no longer specialized icons for different restaurants as in the D3. Is there any place to say... download an icon & a bunch of POIs for different chains? Then, I could upload them to my unit under a new category with a new specialized icon.

  5. To be honest, I don't completely mind it. I would prefer the option though. Some folks -- my wife included -- don't read maps that well. She can't maintain her orientation unless the map's pointed in the direction she's going. It's a nightmare when we're travelling w/o a GPS, because she can't tell right from left unless we're going NORTH!!

Perhaps you should switch to the 3D mode? I personally love the 3D nav with auto zoom. I love seeing exactly what the road I am traveling on looks like. I just got back from a 9hour road trip to an area I had never been to before, and besides not knowing the new development in the small town & thinking you weren't allowed to turn left on a highway, it worked great! The nav was spot on (unlike the D3), and I could see very clearly which road to to turn on, if I was going under an overpass, etc. I really liked how it would tell me which lanes to stay in as highways split off. Yes, it can be finicky from time to time, but I've found that hitting the Map button, or hitting the info button then the map button fixed all my problems. (which were admittedly caused by me fiddling with the unit's different functions.)

Using the 3D mode with auto zoom can be confusing, and it took me a little while to figure out that it would zoom out to 2D if it was >2miles to the next turn, merger, etc. Overall, the Nav makes the other quirks worthwhile for me.

  6. I have Vista on 2 machines, and I don't have any problems. I know quite a bit about computers, and I haven't had any problems with Vista. I've never had to "fight" to get it working. I have a laptop that came with Vista, and I installed Vista from an OEM disk. Both computers run fine. The only problem I have with my computer comes from dust in my case, my very old & slow video card not keeping up with the games I play, and my wireless net connection dropping connection from time to time. None of my problems with my computer can be attributed to Vista. Each machine runs on average for 2-3 weeks before being rebooted.

I also find it annoying how people like to beat up Microsoft every chance they get. Yes, Microsoft deserves some of it, but people's vehemence tends to out weigh reality.

edit: on a side note, I actually do think I'm getting less spyware on my main comp than when it was running XP. Could be just Spybot getting better or it could be Vista helping out.

  7. Model: F90bt

Devices Connected (XM, iPod, etc) : Ipod, Sirius, SD card

AV Source (if playing) during issue: all

Action that caused the issue (pressed button, search, etc): pressing Voice activation button

Was GPS routing? (yes/no) yes & no (doesn't matter)

Was BlueTooth active? If yes, what device? no

Anything else you would like to add: Pushing the voice activation button while on the top menu level doesn't work.

Suggestions on Sirius interface: Please use all lines of text available in the detail view. At minimum showing Station, Artist, & Song Title would do very nicely. Make the interface as user friendly and informative as the SD, Ipod, & CD interface, please. :)

  8. I think my system boots up faster now than it did at the start, too. I have an Ipod, SD card, & Sirius. Granted, I only have a 2gb Ipod.

It could be my imagination, but it feels like I don't get the TOS notification about the GPS until I hit the destination or map button (assuming I shut off the unit while it was on an AV source page). It also seems like it doesn't load certain things until I ask for them, like the Ipod. But, it could just be my imagination, too.

  9. F-series model: f90bt

    Phone make/model: Samsung M300

Ease of connection: A little tricky. The unit could find the phone, but couldn't connect. I had connect via the phone instead of the head unit. Might have been user error.

Phone book transfer: The instructions were confusing on the F90. I had to hit OK farther than I thought they were saying. But, after that, it was pretty quick.

Sound quality: Great through the speakers

Comments: Pretty easy to set up. I never used a bluetooth device before, and it didn't take me long to set up. I have to remember to turn off Bluetooth on my phone when I have a passanger or I am a passanger. Don't want other peope listening to my phone calls. lol.

  10. Thanks for the answer, which basically is no. :( Technically, the unit already has all the info needed for a search function if it already has the phone number stored with the POI entry. I'm assuming it's a database that it's pulling from, and it shouldn't take up any more storage space to search from say, field number 3 than it takes to search from field number 1 and 2. Now, if you told me it would take too much memory to process the search, I'd believe your 2nd point. :) My 90bt is already freezing & rebooting on POI name searches. Perhaps they couldn't figure out how to work POI number searches without the same problem. Tho.. again, it would seem that would take up less processing memory because there would theoretically would only be 1 entry per search instead of however many a name search pulls up.

  11. Yeah, but before, like on the D3, that warning only showed up when you went to actually use the nav, now it shows up upon starting the system, regardless of whether or not you even go into the nav menus. A small annoyance.

My D3 did it every time I turned on the system. It was annoying. Perhaps it's b/c I bought one of the later versions. I bought it just 1 month ago, then returned it when I realized new ones were coming out.
