  1. Sorry, was hoping that would do it. At this point I would probably take it out of the dash, make sure the mounting screws for the brackets are also not the culprit. Don't have any other ideas, sorry.
  2. When did you install the unit - reason I ask is because if this is a new install then perhaps the dash kit (faceplate) is too close to the bottom of the unit, this will cause the screen not to open correctly. Let me know
  3. Thanks for the info - I will download the update and try it out - I did do the bypass on it but I have checked the version and it is Ver 2. The update does say to do it if you have V2. As for the time it takes to load - well I just timed it and it seemed quicker than earlier on - perhaps because it was hanging (takes 35 seconds from the time the unit is on untill the splash screen goes away) One last thing - is there a way to turn off the unit while the car is on?
  4. Need help with the following please. Finally got the Z2 installed and loving it except for the following problems I had today: Drove to work, logged it in as favorite on my GPS. Left work and when I started the car the Z2 started up but remained on the splash screen - no matter what button I hit, nothing happened. I could change volume but that was it. Hit the reset button and it finally came back. When it came back up, I was on the freeway and yet my location on the map was some other weird route no where near the freeway. It tooks some time before it "synched" to where I was. 1 - Stuck a
  5. I fianlly managed to get it going - so here is the deal: I don't have the connecting plug for Connector 2 on the back of the Z2 unit. I tried 4 different installation shops in the area, checked their box of connectors to no avail - so I get home and realize that I have a 4 pin connector from my lithium battery (I fly model planes/helis) and it looks to be the same size. So I cut the connect from the old lithium, use just the last wire as described http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html#newbypass and everything works - guess I will just use it in the mean time until I get the original from
  6. Now I am more confused - let me try and explain what I am seeing and tell me if I am correct. On the back of my Z2 there are three connectors labeled "power supply", "connector 1" and "connector 2 ". The power supply connector is where all the wires are for the speaker, illumination, ground etc. Connector 1 has RCA jacks for audio input/output and video input. CONNECTOR 2 is the one that I am missing - I am guessing that this is the one that I would need to complete the bypass by inserting a wire in the empty slot to make the ground? Is that correct?
  7. Just to clarify, on the two wire bypass, this would be done on the conncetor labeled #2 ? If that is the case, no wonder I am having problem - the dude I bought the unit from did not send this connector to me. If I do need that connector, anyone know where I can get one from?
  8. Is the two wire bypass you referring to for the Z1 or Z2. If for the Z2, do you know where I can find the info. I installed the unit and the bypass I tried with the CD does not work - not sure if I did it correctly.
  9. Hi all Just got the Z2 installed - not too bad but now (yes but) I have a few minor problems and can't figure it out. I downloaded the ISO file for the bypass, ran it and it had no errors. I have connected the VSS wire on my Sonata to the unit. Also connected the light green wire to ground. I take the car for a test drive and everything is working until I start the DVD, I was moving quite slowly so it started to play, then I received some message about the parking break not connected and another one about being prohibited to watch DVD's in the front. The DVD turned off, I could hear the so
  10. I am a little confused and need some clarification please. I have been reading as much as I can on these forums and trying to put it all together but not sure if I did everything correctly. I have the Z2 (arrived yesterday). Connected it up on the bench (still waiting on the dash kit) – wanted to make sure it powered up as it is a used one. Everything seems to work fine. I then found the bypass file and followed the instruction with the cd update (http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8783) – no errors. My question is about the two wire bypass – there was a link in the directions to
  11. Julius - thanks, I actually just found it this morning
  12. What goes around..... - he will get his in the end. As for some good people around - I just bought a Z2 from e-bay - they guy listed it for 7 days, there were no bids, I e-mailed him and he said he would do a buy now for $700. We made the deal at $650 shipped. I tell you, it was a pleasure dealing with this guy. He shipped when he said he would. He insured it for $1000, provided tracking info, the box arrived today, everything looks great, powered up and working no problem. He did however forget to send the manual but said he would ASAP. So just goes to show, there are still a few go
  13. Last question - I hope. The Metra harness you suggested 70-5520, is that for the premium sound or regular. I have the regular stereo in my car, no 6 disk changer? Thanks again for your help
  14. I say track the dude down and take are of business - send in the boys if need be. This is the name and address he used in his e-mail to me: Lex Dixon - lexdixon@nellex.net
  15. The XM does come with an antenna however I did not really want to install the antenna on the dash as do most people, I would have one antenna for the GPS and then another for the XM, so I thought about installing the shark antenna. Figured once I am taking things apart on my car, might as well spend a couple more hours and install the shark antenna.
  16. How about those shark antenna's ? Anyone installed one? I don't have an antenna on my roof, it is part of the rear window, was thinking about installing one on the roof just don't really want to make holes in the roof. Has anyone done this before and do you have any advice?
  17. Thanks for the info - yes, I will be doing the install - have not installed a radio in a couple of years but I am sure I will be able to do it - always tinkering with electronics etc. As for the Metra trim kit, any ideas on the matching up the color - my dash is not black, it is more like a brown color. One last thing - is it possible to use the same antenna for both the GPS and the XM radio?
  18. How about the face plate/mounting kit and the wiring harness - I have the Hyundai Sonata 06 with tan interior. Thanks
  19. ok, finally found a z2 and bought it. I have been trying to find out information but keep getting different answers. I obviously need a dash kit and wiring harness for the install of the z2 into the sonata. Anyone know of the correct kits to get and where to get them? I have the 06 Hyunda Sonata - no premium sound and bought the Pioneer AVIC Z2. Also the color of the dash is NOT black - it is that tan color, I have not seen any dash kits in that color - any suggestions? Thanks
  20. whtcrxghst - the link you provided does not mention the Z2, does the bypass information in that link also apply to the Z2?
  21. Hi all Need so help/advice please. I just bought a Z2 and would like to get the Bluetooth, backup camera and XM radio for it. Can someone please recommend what I need (model numbers) as well as where is the best place to get them. Also, I have heard about doing a mod so that I could watch the dvd or listen to music while using the NAV, is there such a thing and where do I get the mod from. Thanks in advance Forgot to add, I would also like to be able to use my steering wheel controls, heard that there is a unit for this??? One last thing, I am going to put this in a Huyndai Sonata,
  22. Hi all I am in Florida and was looking to buy a Z2 and came across this guys posting. He has them listed on craigslist in LA and in Florida. I e-mailed the guy and told him I would take 2 Z3 and 1 Z2 but I wanted to meet with him and do it that way to save on shipping. He e-mailed back and said he is not in the habit of meeting people because one never knows what could happen. I told hime I would meet him at a mall but he never replied. I almost said stuff it and nearly bought one. I am glad that I found another deal on E-bay for almost the same price. Glad to see that it is a scam and I neve
  23. Hi all I am new to this site and need some advice please. I have a Hyundai Sonata 2006 and would love to install a NAV system. I have been looking around and hear good things about the AVIC’s. I have a chance to get an AVIC Z2 for $650 brand new or the AVIC Z3 for $700. I would still need to get the XM and Bluetooth hookup for it. S o any suggestions on which model to get or should I rather look at a different GPS for my car? Also is there a good place to purchase the Bluetooth and xm /Sirius units? What about the Bluetooth voice commands, are they any good? As for Ipod, not sure if I wo
