  1. So I've had my f90bt ever since the release date, all of the updates are current. However, a few days ago upon boot up the back up camera got stuck in view mode while I was driving. When I put the car in reverse, they back up camera went away and the menu appeared. (completely opposite of what is supposed to happen). I've rebooted many times with no luck.

So a couple days later I get in my car and the f90bt begins to boot up but then completely powers down. It has been doing this for the last 24 hours. I turn on the car and the splash screen is only up for about 10 seconds before the unit completely powers down. Someone please help! Do I have a defective unit or does it sound like a loose wire?

  2. Pioneer has become aware that users of the AVIC-F90BT, AVIC-F900BT, and AVIC-F700BT may experience issues with one or more of the following: navigation voice guidance sound quality and reading of guidance information; brightness of display screen; Bluetooth sound quality and hands-free calling; parking brake warning; cataloguing time for voice recognition of iPod content; song order within an album for iPod content; playing of MP3 music files for USB content; volume control for USB and SD content; and, Spanish and French mode operation with an iPod and with navigation voice guidance.

Wow... that pretty much covers all the problems... the big ones anyway.

No kidding, I cant wait to download the update when I get home 2nite. Maybe I can finally use the VR catalog problem free.

  3. F-series model: f90bt

    Phone make/model: iphone

Ease of connection: Connects in about 1 minute. Always connects also which is nice.

Phone book transfer: Very easy, pressed one button and all my contacts transfered in about 5 min. It stores them so I only had to do this once.

Sound quality: I think its perfect. The people on the other line say the same thing, they cant even tell that I'm on a speaker phone. I've even been able to use it with the windows down going at a pretty reasonable speed.

Comments: Overall I think the bluetooth works really well and is a pretty cool feature. Sorry to hear about some of the problems with the other units.

  4. GENERAL MAP DISPLAYS: When the map is on and you have no route plotted, Two green boxes remain on the display. A long green rectangular one on the top and a large green square in the top left where the turn by turn icon usually is. When I am simply viewing the map with no route plotted, I want these boxes gone and there is no way to do this.

This is an annoying issue to me as well. Those empty boxes eat up a lot of screen real estate, and look pretty stupid when not navigating. Another thing that can also go away is the "Multi-info Window" at the lower left (distance to go, arrival time, etc.). When not navigating, these all show zeros, so they're just taking up space. I realize it can be turned off by turning "Full Screen Cockpit" on, but then it's ALWAYS off...

    -Eric

Agree 100%. I HATE that. It has to be so easy to write code to tweak something like that. "If destination plotted, turn boxes on". "If destination plotted, turn multi-info window on". Come on Pioneer.

I agree also. That large green blank box is very annoying.

so far on my list of complaints I have:

    1) VR catalog needs to hold onto the info once it scans the ipod

    2) Slow startup time, also more responsive buttons

    3) Empty green box please go away

    4) When in 2d I want the navigation arrow to always point straight. I'm never in 2d because its too annoying when I'm going straight on a road and look at the map and the arrow is going to the left or the right. Needs to be like 3d and always point north.

  5. It won't pop out if you put it in correctly and don't mess up the pin or harness.

Tell that to the people who installed my unit! ;) I literally argued with them for 30 minutes about how the mute wire came disconnected and they wouldn't believe me (the 15mph video lockout I mentioned earlier). They finally decided to check it out again and what do ya know, the mute wire wasn't connected. Bypass works now :)

  6. To be perfectly honest.. i think these problems are being blown out of proportion.. i was so mad i ordered one when i heard all the negative things..

I installed mine this weekend and have had ample time to see what the big fuss was about (its a 700bt by the way)

as for the phone stuff.. as long as your windows are up and the mic is in a good location (not near the speakers) it works as good as i would expect.

yeah the boot time can be annoying but what did everyone expect? 30 seconds.. it takes me about a minute or two to get situated in my car, make sure my garage closes, etc..

the voice recognition takes a few moments for requesting an ipod song but it depends how much music you have.. if you have 80 gigs of music vs 10 gigs, yeah its gonna take longer for the vr catalog to load.. this is not surprising.

personally, im really impressed with the unit but everyone expected something flawless because of all the hype.

Im very glad i got this over the d3.. imho the interface and potential is greater by 10 fold.

x2! I am very happy with my f90bt and have no regrets buying it. I was very mad when I ordered one, but when I actually got it installed and thought the thing was pretty cool. Yes they do need to fix the voice recognition and overall lag of the unit, but those are my only complaints. Overall, its an 8 out of 10 for me.

  7. It would be perfect if you only had to run VR Catalog once. However, I let it scan once, and then turn it off, the voice activation forgets everything. For now, I think you have to leave VR Catalog on if you want control of ipod voice controls. Hopefully a firmware update fixes this issue.

it would be perfect but wouldnt make sense....how would u expect it to kno the new awrtists u put on if the deck didnt satalogue them.

an ideal method for it would be to have it scan ur ipod in like 5 seconds to chec for any new material and if it finds something, THEN catalogue. but if theres nothing new why hafta memorize everything again, its just a waste of precious time u can use saying "play artist whitney houston" (and no i dont listen to whitney houston, full metalhead right here \m/ >.< \m/ )

Yeah true, didn't think about just checking for new music. I guess I dont update my ipod that often and just leave it plugged in all the time. :) I like ur method better

  8. I just purchased via mail order a Boyo chrome linense frame with back up camera. I'm not installing this on my vehicle. Don't get me wrong, the product is very nice quality and the chrome finish is superior, BUT, across the whole bottom section of the frame Boyo imbosed in very large lettering, "Patentent Pending" and several patent numbers. It's ugly as hell. If you are consideirng buying one of these, be forwarned,, you may not be happy.. I'm retuning mine today with a note why..

Yeah I just got mine also, noticed that and thought wtf did they do that for?! They could have easily put it on the back or something. You cant really tell when its on unless you are standing like a foot away from it. Maybe cuz I got black frame its less obvious or something.

  9. So after this big thread did anybody buy the 8120 over the F90?

I'm sticking with the F90. This was a tough decision, but after playing around with some of the features, and watching numerous video comparisons, I chose 2 keep my f90bt. I guess you could say "historically" I've always favored Pioneer over Kenwood. I've had both decks in my car before and always leaned towards Pioneer units.

I give the f90bt an 8 out of 10. As soon as they get the slowness lag issue and the VR catalog fixed (voice command sucks), it will be the perfect unit.

  10. can anyone confirm that saying a name does not work for dialing contacts with an iphone?

I can also confirm that saying the name does not work, I tried multiple times. Saying the number works though. The voice command really sucks for everything. Hopefully I firmware fix will help (keeps fingers crossed).

  11. So I recently got my f90bt installed. I haven't been playing with it that long. So far I have only two complaints.

    1. VR Catalog: This thing takes way too damn long. I have an 80gb ipod classic and it takes about 10 min before the "ipod may have limited connectivity at this time" screen goes off. And when it finally goes off, the voice control doesn't even work. I tried saying "play artist, metallica, pennywise, led zeppelin, etc, etc. None of them worked. I really hope the VR catalog gets fixed. When I turn it off, the unit as a whole is so much faster.

    2. My second complaint is that the unit is very slow. Like many of you have been saying: it acts like a really slow computer. It is very frustrating when I have to tap a button 3 times in order for it to work. Sometimes after tapping a button it takes about 10 seconds for it to go to the next screen.

    Some of the other features:

Bluetooth works awesome (surprisingly). connects to my iphone in aboout 1 min 30 sec. (no bad). Phone calls are clear on the other end when I asked multiple people I called. My only complaint again is the slowness of the screen. When I do contact search it is really frustrating scrolling beteween contacts.

Overall, I am happy with this unit. The nav is awesome, bluetooth is pretty cool, ipod controls and video on the screen are clear and sharp. POI's are pretty cool.

A firmware fix could definitely fix the slowness issue so I really hope they get on this.

Overall, this unit gets an 8 out of 10. This could easily be a 10 out of 10 for me once you eliminate the slowness and stupid VR catalog glitch.

  12. Hey guys,

I know this question has been asked on here so I apologize in advance. I recently got the f90bt installed and my local stereo shop offered to bypass. They bypassed, however, the video cuts off when the car goes over 15 mph.

Is this because they grounded the parking brake but forgot to relocate the mute wire to the correct pin? If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks.
