  1. Goldcylon, what kind of problems did you have with the steering wheel control kit on your F 150? I'm concerned I will have the same problem with my ford.

Thank you, I appreciate the input. I'll hunt down a BT-1.

You have to jam down the volume buttons which either did or would not work. They were checked out by Frod as fully working but who really knows. The Pioneer remote solved the problem

  2. I have a Z1 and i switched out my hard drive and installed a new unlocked one with the 2010 maps Z3 update. I was wondering if anyone knows how to get the address book off the old drive and onto the new one. I guess i am looking for the files that need to be moved. I have both hard drives unlocked and are able to be attached to my computer. I am hoping that i can just move some files over to have my old address book on the new drive.

Garret Tomey may know. Send him a pm

  3. If it's not working, then 1 of 2 things happened...

    1) You or your friend did a firmware or map update. This renders the light flash bypass inoperable and will require the '2 wire bypass'. See the sticky post about the 2 wire bypass.

    2) You did not properly connect the "ILL" illuniation wire on the back of the Z.

Since the firmware and maps on your drive are over 5 years old, I highly recomend doing the 2 wire bypass and updating. If nothing else, at least do the free firmware update from Pioneer. Once you do the 2 wire bypass, it will still work with all current updates.

I second Garret HD upgrade suggestion.

  4. i'm somewhat disappointed in the map upgrade (2010)...in particular the POI's. 2 quick examples.

    1. Large strip mall thats been around for 6-7 years (home depot, target, applebees, etc.) is not even visible on the map. Just shows green grass, like an empty field.

    2. Went to Atlantic City, and searched for hotels. ONLY 6 SHOWED UP. 6....IN ATLANTIC CITY... that's unacceptable.

Anyone else have similar POI issues.

Sometimes I wonder if a deal with the business to pay to be added to the software? Obviously beyond the Airport and such.

  5. i have a perfectly good tv tuner from pioneer for my z1 head unit.

ever since the US changed the signal to digital my tuner will no longer work. i spent a good amount on this tuner and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

is there a hack or mod that i can do to it so i can watch it again?

Not yet. Maybe an RV store would have a 12volt HD tuner to interface but I doubt it

  6. Now that I have your attention......

    He is a gentleman.

He does what he says he will do.

    He answers email with dispatch.

    He ships quick.

His service is way too cheap.

He upgraded my Z2 maps without a hitch.

Even if he wrecked your hard drive, you would thank him.

    I recommend him highly.

Concur Garret is a great guy

  7. 1. Order the update DVD from Pioneer or other online retailers. google: CNDV-1000HD

    2. Follow the directions in the hacks forum to download and install the update yourself. Depends on the hardware you have. See hacks forum.

    3. Send your drive to someone to complete the upgrade for you. http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16897

    4. Order a preconfigured plug and play upgrade hard drive. http://avic411.com/index.php?showtopic=12766

I highly recommend Garret for this service. Im a repeat customer and do this every year when the new software is available.

  8. Pioneer's website shows that the BT box ND-BT1 is used with the Z2. But when I look for it alot of places online show it to be discontinued part.

I have looked at eBay, and found a couple.

Will the CD-BTB200 work instead of the ND-BT1?

No it was for the earlier D3 units if I remember correctly. Try to get the ND-BT1. Yes they are becoming old school which is which I suggested Ebay.

  9. I would start with checking the wire that senses reverse. I don't recall what type of signal it receives (ground or 12v). If it's not getting either, it's not going to change the screen when you reverse. Just remembered, somewhere in the settings you can also change the way it receives the signal that your vehicle is in reverse.

If it was me, I would see if it was set to + or -. Then I could find that wire, remove it and hook a corresponding source.

You have to do this everytime you have a battery event as well

  10. I was wondering how people felt about the Bluetooth modules for the z series avics. Are they a good option and do they work well? How many different ones are available for the z series and is one better than the other? Do they cause any problems (i.e. freezing up the unit or causing technical problems)? Finally, where is the best place to get a good deal on a Bluetooth module?

I also wanted to know if there was a way to get the steering wheel controls on a 2002 excursion to work with a z2.

    Thanks.

The blue tooth module for this unit works well there is only one unit and I suggest Ebay. You can buy an interface kit that you can program for the use of your sterring wheel controls but I had problems with it in my 07 F-150. I ended up using the Sir steering wheel remote which works great

  11. You probably don't have the VSS wire connected.

Accuracy of the position increases exponentially after the VSS is connected. As your vehicle slows down, your position will reflect your speed and give you the best mapping.

This would be my guess. As stated if you dont have your HU hooked into your Variable Speed Sensor or VSS your GPS will still work but will default into using the "Dead Reckoning" mode. This is discussed in your owners manual. Basically your GPS is guessing where your are in your travels.

  12. To help the next guy out. Yes sometime the AVIC Z series bluetooth loses its way. You may have to turn your phone off and on and repair. Some phones allow to to always accept the pair request which is great. Older phones wait for you to prompt it or enter your head code. i dont why this happens but it happen to me ocassionaly as well.
